Nahum 1
1 The doom of Nineveh, The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite.
Malheur accablant de Ninive: Livre de la vision de Nahum l’Elcéséen.
2 A God watchful and avenging is the Lord; an avenger is the Lord, and full of fury; the Lord taketh vengeance on his adversaries, and keepeth in mind the deeds of his enemies.
C’est un Dieu jaloux et qui se venge, le Seigneur; le Seigneur se venge, et il a de la fureur; le Seigneur se venge de ceux qui le combattent, et il se met en colère contre ses ennemis.
3 The Lord is long-suffering, and great in power, but he will by no means clear the guilty: the Lord—in the whirlwind and in the storm is his way, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.
Le Seigneur est patient et grand en puissance; il ne fera pas pur et innocent un un coupable. Le Seigneur, ses voies sont dans la tempête, et les tourbillons, et les nuées sont la poussière de ses pieds.
4 He rebuketh the sea, and maketh it dry, and all the rivers he drieth up: Bashan then withereth, with Carmel, and the flowers of Lebanon wither.
Il gourmande la mer et il la dessèche; et il convertit tous les fleuves en un désert. Le Basan et le Carmel ont langui, et la fleur du Liban s’est flétrie.
5 Mountains quake before him, and the hills melt away; and the earth is lifted up at his presence, yea, the world, and all that dwell therein.
Les montagnes ont été ébranlées par lui, et les collines ont été désolées, et la terre a tremblé devant sa face, ainsi que le globe et tous ceux qui l’habitent.
6 Before his indignation who can stand? and who can subsist before the fierceness of his anger? his fury is poured out like fire, and the rocks are broken down by him.
Devant la face de son indignation qui subsistera? et qui résistera devant la colère de sa fureur? Son indignation s’est répandue comme le feu; les rochers ont été dissous par lui.
7 The Lord is good, a strong-hold on the day of distress; and he knoweth those that trust in him.
Bon est le Seigneur, il fortifie au jour de la tribulation, il sait ceux qui espèrent en lui.
8 But with an overflowing flood will he utterly destroy the place of [Nineveh], and his enemies will he pursue with darkness.
Et par un déluge qui passera, il consommera la ruine de ce lieu, et ses ennemis, des ténèbres les poursuivront.
9 What will you devise against the Lord? he is bringing about an utter destruction, the distress shall not rise up twice.
Que méditez-vous contre le Seigneur? il consommera lui-même la ruine; et il n’y aura pas lieu à une double tribulation.
10 For they, like thorns interwoven, and as men made drunken in their drinking bout, shall be entirely consumed as dry stubble.
Parce que comme des épines s’entrelacent, ainsi est leur festin, quand ils boivent ensemble; ils seront consumés, comme une paille entièrement sèche.
11 There is gone forth out of thee he that devised evil against the Lord, the counsellor of infamous things.
De toi sortira celui qui pense le mal contre le Seigneur, qui dans son esprit médite la prévarication.
12 Thus hath said the Lord, Though they be complete, and ever so many, nevertheless shall they be cut down, and it shall be over [with them]: and if even I have afflicted thee, I will afflict thee no more.
Voici ce que dit le Seigneur: S’ils sont complets, et par là-même nombreux, ils subiront des retranchements, et chacun d’eux passera; je t’ai affligé, mais je ne t’affligerai plus.
13 For now will I break his yoke from off thee, and thy bonds will I tear asunder.
Et maintenant je briserai sa verge en l’éloignant de ton dos, et je romprai tes liens.
14 But against thee hath the Lord decreed, that no heir of thy name shall be any more: out of the house of thy gods will I cut off the graven and the molten image; I will prepare thy grave [there]; for thou art made vile.
Et le Seigneur donnera ses ordres à ton sujets on ne sèmera plus en ton nom; du temple de ton Dieu je détruirai l’image taillée au ciseau, et la statue jetée en fonte, j’en ferai ton sépulcre, parce que tu t’es déshonoré.
15 Behold, upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace, Celebrate thy feasts, O Judah, fulfill thy vows; for never more shall the wicked pass again through thee, he is utterly cut off.
Voici sur les montagnes les pieds de celui qui évangélise et annonce la paix; célèbre, ô Juda, tes fêtes, et acquitte tes vœux; parce que Bélial ne passera plus à l’avenir au milieu de toi; il a péri tout entier.
