< Nahum 3 >
1 Woe to the city of blood! it is all full of lies and robbery; never ceaseth the preying;
A UWE ke kulanakauhale koko! Ua piha oia a pau i ka wahahee, a me ka powa; Aole e laweia'ku ke pio;
2 The noise of a whip, and the noise of the rattling of wheels, and of prancing horses, and of the skipping chariots.
O ka poha o ka huipa, a o ka halulu o ke kaa ana o na kaa, A o ka holo ana o na lio, a o ka lele ana o na halekaa.
3 Horsemen mount, and there are the flaming sword and the glittering spear: and there is a multitude of slain, and heaps of carcasses; and without end are the corpses; they stumble on their corpses;
Kaikai ae ka hoohololio i ka pahikaua wakawaka a me ka ihe huali; A he nui ka poe i pepehiia, a he nui na kupapau; Aohe hope o na heana, A hina lakou maluna o ko lakou mau heana.
4 Because of the multitude of the lewd deeds of the harlot, that is rich in gracefulness, the mistress of witchcrafts, that selleth nations through her lewd deeds, and families through her witchcrafts.
No ka nui o na moe kolohe ana o ka wahine maikai hookamakama, Nona na anaana. Ka mea kuai i na lahuikanaka ma kona moe kolohe ana, A me na ohana, ma kona mau anaana ana;
5 Behold, I will be against thee, saith the Lord of hosts; and I will lay thy skirts open over thy face, and I will let nations see thy nakedness, and kingdoms thy shame.
Aia hoi, ua maka e aku au ia oe, wahi a Iehova o na kaua; A e huli ae au i kou kapa maluna o kou maka, A e hoike aku au i kou olohelohe ana i na lahuikanaka, A i kou hilahila i na aupuni.
6 And I will cast abominable filth upon thee, and defile thee, and will render thee a dirt-heap.
A e hoolei aku au maluna ou i na mea haumia, A e hoolilo au ia oe i mea e manao ole ia, A e hooku au ia oe i mea e makaikaiia.
7 And it shall come to pass, that all they that see thee shall flee from thee, and say, Laid waste is Nineveh: who will condole with her? whence shall I seek comforters for thee?
A o na mea a pau e nana aku ia oe, Holo no lakou mai ou aku la, me ka i ana aku, Ua lukuia o Nineva! Owai la ka mea e auwe ia ia? A mahea la wau e imi aku ai i na mea hooluolu nou?
8 Art thou better than No-amon, that was situated on the rivers, that had water round about her, the rampart of which was the sea, and the walls of which rose out of the sea?
Ua oi anei kou maikai mamua o ko No-Amona, Ka mea e noho ana ma na muliwai, Ua hoopuniia oia e na wai, O ke kai kona paku, a o kona papohaku mai ke kai mai ia?
9 Ethiopia the numerous, and Egypt that was without end, Put and Lubim were thy helpers.
O Aitiopa kona ikaika a me Aigupita, aohe heluia; O Puta a me Lubima kou mau mea kokua.
10 Yet also she was exiled, was carried away into captivity; also her young children were dashed in pieces at the corners of all streets: and for her honorable men they cast lots, and all her great ones were bound with chains.
Aka, ua laweia'ku oia, ua hele pio aku ia; A ua ulupaia kana mau keiki liilii ma ke poo o na alanui a pau: A hailona lakou no kona poe kanaka hanohano, A ua hoopaaia kona mau kanaka nui a pau i na kaulahao.
11 Thou also shalt be made drunken, thou shalt be hidden from view: thou also shalt seek refuge because of the enemy.
A e ona no hoi oe, a e hunaia oe; A e imi no oe i ka ikaika no ka poe enemi.
12 All thy strong-holds shall be like fig-trees with the first ripe figs, which, if they be shaken, will fall into the mouth of the eater.
A e like kou mau wahi paa me ka laau fiku, me ka hua pala mua, Ina e hooluliia, e haule iho lakou iloko o ka waha o ka mea e ai ana.
13 Behold, thy people are become women in the midst of thee: unto thy enemies are the gates of thy land set wide open; the fire hath devoured thy bars.
Aia hoi, o kou poe kanaka iwaena ou, ua like me na wahine; A e hoohamama loa ia na pukapa o kou aina i kou poe enemi; A e hoopau ke ahi i kou mau kaola.
14 Water for the siege draw for thyself, fortify thy strongholds: go into the clay, and tread the mortar, make strong the brick-kiln.
E hukiwai ae nou, no ka popilikia, E hoopaa oe i kou mau wahi paa; E komo oe iloko o ka lepo, a e hehi iho i ka lepo kawili, A e hoopaa i kahi puhi pohaku-ula.
15 There shall the fire devour thee; the sword shall cut thee off, it shall devour thee up like the cankerworm: [though] thou make thyself many as the cankerworm; make thyself many as the locusts.
Malaila e hoopau ai ke ahi ia oe; E oki mai ka pahikaua ia oe, E ai iho no ia ia oe, e like me ka uhini huluhulu: E hoomahuahua ia oe iho e like me ka uhini huluhulu; Hoonui ia oe iho e like me ka uhini nui.
16 [Though] thou hadst multiplied thy merchants more than the stars of heaven: the cankerworm spreadeth itself out, and flieth away.
Ua hoonui oe i kou poe kalepa mamua o na hoku o ka lani: Hoopalahalaha aku ka uhini huluhulu, a lele aku la.
17 Thy crowned ones are like the locusts, and thy leaders like the swarms of locusts, which camp in the hedges on a cold day, but when the sun ariseth they flee away, and their place is not known where they are.
Ua like kou poe alii me na uhini, A o kou poe lunakoa e like me na uhini nui loa, Ka mea e kau ana ma ka papohaku i ka la anu, A puka mai ka la, lele aku lakou, aole i ikeia ko lakou wahi.
18 Thy shepherds slumber, O king of Assyria; thy valiant men are at rest: scattered are thy people upon the mountains, and there is none that gathereth them.
Ke hiamoe nei kou poe kahuhipa, e ke alii o Asuria: E noho iho kou poe alii; Ua hoopuehuia kou poe kanaka ma na mauna, Aohe mea nana lakou e hoakoakoa mai.
19 There is no healing for thy breach; fatal is thy wound: all that hear the report of thee will clap their hands over thee; for over whom did not thy wickedness pass continually?
Aohe mea hoola i kou eha ana; ua nui kou eha; O ka poe a pau e lohe i kou lono, e paipai lakou i ko lakou lima maluna ou; No ka mea, maluna owai anei i hele mau ole aku ai kou hewa?
