Nahum 3
1 Woe to the city of blood! it is all full of lies and robbery; never ceaseth the preying;
Ô ville de sang, toute pleine de mensonges et d'iniquités, tes rapines ne s'amoncelleront plus.
2 The noise of a whip, and the noise of the rattling of wheels, and of prancing horses, and of the skipping chariots.
Voilà le bruit des fouets, le bruit des roues ébranlées, des chevaux lancés, des chars frémissants et des cavaliers en marche;
3 Horsemen mount, and there are the flaming sword and the glittering spear: and there is a multitude of slain, and heaps of carcasses; and without end are the corpses; they stumble on their corpses;
voilà le glaive étincelant, l'armure brillante de la multitude des blessés, et une ruine profonde. Et ses peuples étaient sans nombre, mais ils ont énervé leurs corps dans la multitude de leurs prostitutions.
4 Because of the multitude of the lewd deeds of the harlot, that is rich in gracefulness, the mistress of witchcrafts, that selleth nations through her lewd deeds, and families through her witchcrafts.
Courtisane belle et gracieuse, reine des enchantements, tu vendais les peuples par tes débauches, et les nations par tes sortilèges.
5 Behold, I will be against thee, saith the Lord of hosts; and I will lay thy skirts open over thy face, and I will let nations see thy nakedness, and kingdoms thy shame.
Et voilà que Je M'attaque à toi, dit le Seigneur Dieu tout-puissant; Je dévoilerai tes nudités à tous les yeux, Je montrerai aux nations ta honte, et aux royaumes ton opprobre.
6 And I will cast abominable filth upon thee, and defile thee, and will render thee a dirt-heap.
Et Je ferai retomber sur toi l'abomination que méritent tes impuretés, et Je ferai de toi un exemple.
7 And it shall come to pass, that all they that see thee shall flee from thee, and say, Laid waste is Nineveh: who will condole with her? whence shall I seek comforters for thee?
Et il arrivera que tout homme, en te voyant, s'éloignera de toi, disant: Malheureuse Ninive, qui se lamentera sur elle? Où chercher pour elle une consolation?
8 Art thou better than No-amon, that was situated on the rivers, that had water round about her, the rampart of which was the sea, and the walls of which rose out of the sea?
Prépare ta partie, ajuste tes cordes, prépare ta partie pour Ammon, qui demeure au milieu des fleuves; les flots l'entourent; la mer est son empire, et l'eau lui sert de remparts,
9 Ethiopia the numerous, and Egypt that was without end, Put and Lubim were thy helpers.
et l'Éthiopie est sa force, et aussi l'Égypte; et pourtant il n'y aura pas de terme à sa fuite. En vain les Libyens sont ses auxiliaires.
10 Yet also she was exiled, was carried away into captivity; also her young children were dashed in pieces at the corners of all streets: and for her honorable men they cast lots, and all her great ones were bound with chains.
Elle-même sera transportée captive, et ses enfants seront écrasés à terre, à l'entrée de toutes les rues, et l'on se partagera au sort toutes les richesses qui faisaient sa gloire; et tous ses grands auront les mains chargées de chaînes.
11 Thou also shalt be made drunken, thou shalt be hidden from view: thou also shalt seek refuge because of the enemy.
Et toi, tu seras enivrée, et tu seras méprisée, et tu solliciteras l'appui de tes propres ennemis.
12 All thy strong-holds shall be like fig-trees with the first ripe figs, which, if they be shaken, will fall into the mouth of the eater.
Toutes tes forteresses seront comme des figuiers gardés; si on les secoue, les figues tombent dans la bouche et sont mangées.
13 Behold, thy people are become women in the midst of thee: unto thy enemies are the gates of thy land set wide open; the fire hath devoured thy bars.
Voilà que ton peuple sera comme un peuple de femmes; les portes de ton pays seront ouvertes à tes ennemis; le feu consumera tes barrières.
14 Water for the siege draw for thyself, fortify thy strongholds: go into the clay, and tread the mortar, make strong the brick-kiln.
Tire de l'eau pour soutenir un siège; fortifie tes remparts; entre dans l'argile; foule-la aux pieds; mêle-la de lits de paille; sois toi-même plus ferme que la brique.
15 There shall the fire devour thee; the sword shall cut thee off, it shall devour thee up like the cankerworm: [though] thou make thyself many as the cankerworm; make thyself many as the locusts.
C'est là que la flamme te dévorera, que le glaive te détruira; comme une nuée de sauterelles tu seras engloutie; tu seras appesantie comme de grandes sauterelles.
16 [Though] thou hadst multiplied thy merchants more than the stars of heaven: the cankerworm spreadeth itself out, and flieth away.
Tu as multiplié tes marchandises plus que les étoiles du ciel; la nuée de sauterelles les a attaquées et s'est envolée.
17 Thy crowned ones are like the locusts, and thy leaders like the swarms of locusts, which camp in the hedges on a cold day, but when the sun ariseth they flee away, and their place is not known where they are.
La multitude étrangère mêlée à toi s'est enfuie comme l'escarbot, ou comme la sauterelle perchée sur la haie un jour de gelée; le soleil s'élève, elle saute dehors, et nul ne sait où elle s'était posée. Malheur à eux!
18 Thy shepherds slumber, O king of Assyria; thy valiant men are at rest: scattered are thy people upon the mountains, and there is none that gathereth them.
Tes pasteurs se sont assoupis; ton roi assyrien s'est endormi avec tes hommes de guerre; ton peuple s'est enfui sur les montagnes, et nul n'était là pour lui donner asile.
19 There is no healing for thy breach; fatal is thy wound: all that hear the report of thee will clap their hands over thee; for over whom did not thy wickedness pass continually?
Il n'est point de guérison pour tes blessures, ta plaie s'est enflammée; tous ceux qui entendent parler de tes malheurs battent des mains; car contre qui n'as-tu pas constamment tourné ta scélératesse?
