Malachi 3
1 Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall clear out the way before me: and suddenly will come to his temple the Lord, whom ye seek; and the messenger of the covenant, whom ye desire for, behold, he is coming, saith the Lord of hosts.
Voici, j'enverrai mon ange, et il préparera le chemin devant moi, et soudain arrivera dans son temple le Seigneur que vous cherchez et l'ange de l'alliance que vous désirez: le voici venir, dit l'Éternel des armées.
2 But who can sustain the day of his coming? and who can stand when he appeareth? for he is like the fire of the melter, and like the lye of the washers:
Mais qui soutiendra le jour de sa venue? et qui restera debout, quand il paraîtra? Car il est pareil au feu du fondeur et à la lessive des foulons.
3 And he will sit as a melter and purifier of silver; and he will purify the sons of Levi, and refine them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the Lord an offering in righteousness
Et il sera assis fondant et purifiant l'argent, et il purifiera les enfants de Lévi et les mettra au creuset comme l'or et l'argent, et ils appartiendront à l'Éternel, lui apportant des offrandes avec justice.
4 And then shall be pleasant unto the Lord the offerings of Judah and Jerusalem, as in the days of old, and as in former years.
Alors l'offrande de Juda et de Jérusalem sera agréée de l'Éternel, comme aux jours d'autrefois et dans les années de jadis.
5 And I will come near unto you to [hold] judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against those that swear falsely, and against those that withhold the wages of the hired laborer, [oppress] the widow, and the fatherless, and that do injustice to the stranger, and fear me not, saith the Lord of hosts.
Et je m'approcherai de vous pour le jugement, et je viendrai promptement témoigner contré les enchanteurs et les adultères et les parjures, et contre ceux qui dépouillent le mercenaire de son salaire et la veuve et l'orphelin et déboutent les étrangers et ne me craignent point, dit l'Éternel des armées.
6 For I the Lord, —I have not changed: and ye sons of Jacob—ye have not ceased to be.
Car je suis l'Éternel, je ne change point, et vous, enfants de Jacob, vous ne périrez point.
7 From the days of your fathers did ye depart from my statutes, and did not keep them; return unto me, and I will return unto you, saith the Lord of hosts; but ye say, Wherein shall we return?
Dès les jours de vos pères vous vous êtes écartés de mes ordonnances et ne les avez point gardées: revenez à moi et je reviendrai à vous, dit l'Éternel des armées. Et vous dites: « A quel égard reviendrons-nous? »
8 Can a man rob God, that ye will rob me? But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and in heave-offerings.
Un homme peut-il donc être fourbe envers Dieu, que vous soyez fourbes envers moi? Et vous dites: « En quoi fûmes-nous fourbes envers toi? » Dans les dîmes et les oblations.
9 With the curse are ye cursed, and yet me do ye rob, O ye entire nation!
La malédiction vous est infligée, parce que vous fûtes fourbes envers moi, le peuple tout entier.
10 Bring ye all the tithes into the store-house, that there may be provision in my house, and prove me but herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open for you the windows of heaven, and pour out for you a blessing, until it be more than enough.
Apportez toutes les dîmes dans le magasin, afin qu'il y ait des vivres dans ma maison, et mettez-moi donc à l'épreuve par là, dit l'Éternel des armées: [vous verrez] si je n'ouvre pas pour vous les écluses des Cieux, et ne répands pas sur vous la bénédiction au delà de vos besoins.
11 And I will rebuke for you the devourer, and he shall not destroy for you the fruit of the ground: and the vine shall not cast its fruit for you before the time in the field, saith the Lord of hosts.
Et je vous préserverai du dévoreur, afin qu'il ne détruise pas le fruit du sol, et que dans les campagnes la vigne ne vous avorte pas, dit l'Éternel des armées.
12 And all the nations shall call you blessed; for ye shall be a land of delight, saith the Lord of hosts.
Et toutes les nations vous diront heureux, car vous serez un pays de délices, dit l'Éternel des armées.
13 Your words have been strong against me, saith the Lord; but ye say, What have we spoken among us against thee?
Vos discours envers moi ont été audacieux, dit l'Éternel. Et vous dites: Qu'avons-nous concerté contre toi? »
14 Ye have said, It is vain to serve God: and what profit is it that we have kept his charge, and that we have walked contritely before the Lord of hosts?
Vous avez dit: « Inutile de servir Dieu! et quel profit eûmes-nous d'observer ses ordonnances et d'aller menant deuil devant l'Éternel des armées?
15 And now we call the presumptuous happy: yea, built up are those that practise wickedness; yea, they have even tempted God and are [yet] suffered to escape.
Et maintenant, nous proclamons heureux les orgueilleux; ceux qui pratiquent l'impiété prospèrent; ils tentent Dieu, et échappent. »
16 Then conversed they that fear the Lord one with the other: and the Lord listened and heard it, and there was written a book of remembrance before him for those who fear the Lord, and for those who respect his name.
Alors ceux qui craignent Dieu se sont concertés l'un avec l'autre, et l'Éternel fut attentif et écouta, et un mémoire fut écrit devant lui pour ceux qui craignent l'Éternel et pensent à son nom.
17 And they shall be mine, saith the Lord of hosts, on that day which I create as a special treasure: and I will spare them, as a man spareth his son that serveth him.
Et ils seront à moi, dit l'Éternel des armées, au jour que je prépare, ma propriété; et j'userai envers eux delà clémence dont use un homme envers son fils qui le sert.
18 And ye shall return, and see the difference between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that hath not served him.
Alors de nouveau vous verrez quelle différence il y a entre le juste et l'impie, entre celui qui sert Dieu et celui qui ne le sert pas.
