Malachi 3
1 Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall clear out the way before me: and suddenly will come to his temple the Lord, whom ye seek; and the messenger of the covenant, whom ye desire for, behold, he is coming, saith the Lord of hosts.
Voici que j’envoie mon messager, et il préparera le chemin devant moi; et soudain viendra dans son temple le Seigneur que vous cherchez, l’ange de l’alliance que vous désirez. Voici, il vient, dit Yahweh des armées.
2 But who can sustain the day of his coming? and who can stand when he appeareth? for he is like the fire of the melter, and like the lye of the washers:
Et qui soutiendra le jour de sa venue, et qui restera debout quand il apparaîtra? Car il sera comme le feu du fondeur, comme la potasse des foulons.
3 And he will sit as a melter and purifier of silver; and he will purify the sons of Levi, and refine them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the Lord an offering in righteousness
Il s’assoira, fondant et purifiant l’argent; il purifiera les fils de Lévi, et les épurera comme l’or et l’argent; et ils seront pour Yahweh des [ministres] qui lui présenteront l’oblation selon la justice;
4 And then shall be pleasant unto the Lord the offerings of Judah and Jerusalem, as in the days of old, and as in former years.
et l’oblation de Juda et de Jérusalem sera agréable à Yahweh comme aux anciens jours, comme dans les années d’autrefois.
5 And I will come near unto you to [hold] judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against those that swear falsely, and against those that withhold the wages of the hired laborer, [oppress] the widow, and the fatherless, and that do injustice to the stranger, and fear me not, saith the Lord of hosts.
Je m’approcherai de vous pour le jugement, et je serai un témoin prompt contre les enchanteurs, contre les adultères, contre ceux qui jurent faussement, contre ceux qui extorquent au mercenaire son salaire, qui [oppriment] la veuve et l’orphelin, qui repoussent l’étranger, et qui ne me craignent pas, dit Yahweh des armées.
6 For I the Lord, —I have not changed: and ye sons of Jacob—ye have not ceased to be.
C’est parce que moi, Yahweh, je ne change pas, que vous, les enfants de Jacob, vous n’avez pas été consumés.
7 From the days of your fathers did ye depart from my statutes, and did not keep them; return unto me, and I will return unto you, saith the Lord of hosts; but ye say, Wherein shall we return?
Depuis les jours de vos pères, vous vous êtes écartés de mes ordonnances et vous ne les avez pas observées. Revenez à moi et je reviendrai à vous, dit Yahweh des armées. — Et vous dites: « En quoi reviendrons-nous? » —
8 Can a man rob God, that ye will rob me? But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and in heave-offerings.
Un homme [oserait-il] frauder Dieu, que vous me fraudiez? — Et vous dites: « En quoi t’avons-nous fraudé? » — Dans la dîme et la part à prélever.
9 With the curse are ye cursed, and yet me do ye rob, O ye entire nation!
Vous êtes frappés, vous, de la malédiction, et moi, vous me fraudez, vous, toute la nation!
10 Bring ye all the tithes into the store-house, that there may be provision in my house, and prove me but herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open for you the windows of heaven, and pour out for you a blessing, until it be more than enough.
Apportez toute la dîme au trésor et qu’il y ait des vivres dans ma maison! Et mettez-moi donc à l’épreuve en ceci, dit Yahweh des armées: si je n’ouvre pas pour vous les écluses des cieux, et si je ne répands pas sur vous la bénédiction jusqu’à surabondance.
11 And I will rebuke for you the devourer, and he shall not destroy for you the fruit of the ground: and the vine shall not cast its fruit for you before the time in the field, saith the Lord of hosts.
Pour vous, je chasserai l’[insecte] qui dévore; il ne vous détruira plus les fruits du sol, et la vigne ne sera plus stérile pour vous dans la campagne, dit Yahweh des armées.
12 And all the nations shall call you blessed; for ye shall be a land of delight, saith the Lord of hosts.
Toutes les nations vous diront heureux, car vous serez un pays de délices, dit Yahweh des armées.
13 Your words have been strong against me, saith the Lord; but ye say, What have we spoken among us against thee?
Vos paroles sont dures contre moi, dit Yahweh. Et vous dites: « Qu’avons-nous dit de toi entre nous? »
14 Ye have said, It is vain to serve God: and what profit is it that we have kept his charge, and that we have walked contritely before the Lord of hosts?
— Vous avez dit: « Inutile de servir Dieu; qu’avons-nous gagné à observer ses préceptes et à marcher avec tristesse devant Yahweh des armées? »
15 And now we call the presumptuous happy: yea, built up are those that practise wickedness; yea, they have even tempted God and are [yet] suffered to escape.
Et maintenant, nous proclamons heureux les impies; ils prospèrent, ceux qui font le mal; ils tentent Dieu, et [pourtant] ils échappent. »
16 Then conversed they that fear the Lord one with the other: and the Lord listened and heard it, and there was written a book of remembrance before him for those who fear the Lord, and for those who respect his name.
Alors ceux qui craignent Yahweh se sont entretenus les uns avec les autres. Et Yahweh a été attentif, il a entendu, et un livre de souvenir a été écrit devant lui, pour ceux qui craignent Yahweh et qui respectent son nom.
17 And they shall be mine, saith the Lord of hosts, on that day which I create as a special treasure: and I will spare them, as a man spareth his son that serveth him.
Au jour que je prépare, dit Yahweh des armées, ils seront pour moi un bien particulier, et je serai pour eux plein de tendresse, comme un homme est plein de tendresse, pour son fils qui le sert.
18 And ye shall return, and see the difference between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that hath not served him.
Et vous verrez de nouveau la [différence] entre le juste et le méchant, entre celui qui sert Dieu et celui qui ne le sert pas.
