< Malachi 2 >

1 And now, this commandment is for you, O ye priests.
“Pea ko eni, ʻakimoutolu ʻae kau taulaʻeiki, ko e fekau eni maʻamoutolu.
2 If ye will not hear, and if ye will not lay it to heart, to give glory unto my name, saith the Lord of hosts: I will even send out against you a curse, and I will curse your blessings; yea, I will curse the same, because ye do not lay it to heart.
Kapau ʻe ʻikai te mou fanongo, pea kapau ʻe ʻikai te mou fakatokangaʻi homou loto, koeʻuhi ke fakaongoongoleleiʻi ʻa hoku huafa,” ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova ʻoe ngaahi kautau, “Te u fekau atu moʻoni ha fakamalaʻia kiate kimoutolu, pea te u fakamalaʻia ʻa homou ngaahi tāpuaki: ʻio, kuo u fai ni ʻa hono fakamalaʻia, ka ʻoku ʻikai ke tokanga ki ai homou loto.
3 Behold, I will destroy unto you the seed, and spread dung upon your faces, even the dung of your festive offerings; and one shall take you away with it.
Vakai, te u maumauʻi homou ʻinasi, pea te u lī ʻae kinohaʻa ʻi homou mata, ʻio, ʻae meʻa kovi mei hoʻomou ngaahi kātoanga mamalu; pea ʻe fetuku ʻakimoutolu fakataha mo ia.
4 And ye shall thereby know that I have sent out unto you this commandment, that my covenant might be with Levi, saith the Lord of hosts.
Pea te mou ʻilo kuo u ʻatu ʻae fekau ni kiate kimoutolu, koeʻuhi ke ʻia Livai ʻa ʻeku fuakava,” ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova ʻoe ngaahi kautau.
5 My covenant was with him life and peace; and I gave them to him for the fear wherewith he feared me, and because of my name he had dread.
“Naʻe fai ʻeku fuakava mo ia, ko e meʻa ki he moʻui mo e melino; pea naʻaku ʻatu ia ki ai, koeʻuhi ko ʻene manavahē, ʻaia naʻa ne manavahē ai kiate au, pea manavahē ki hoku huafa.
6 The law of truth was in his mouth, and falsehood was not found on his lips: in peace and equity he walked with me, and many did he turn away from iniquity.
Naʻe ʻi hono ngutu ʻae fono ʻoe moʻoni, pea naʻe ʻikai ʻilo ha meʻa hala ʻi hono loungutu; naʻa ma ʻaʻeva mo au ʻi he melino mo e fai totonu, pea naʻa ne fakatafoki ʻae tokolahi mei he angahala.
7 For the priest's lips are ever to keep knowledge, and the law are they to seek from his mouth; for he is the messenger of the Lord of hosts.
He ʻoku totonu ke ʻi he loungutu ʻoe taulaʻeiki ʻae poto, pea totonu ke nau kumi ʻae fono mei hono ngutu: he ko e talafekau ia meia Sihova ʻoe ngaahi kautau.
8 But ye are indeed departed out of the way; ye have caused many to stumble in the law; ye have corrupted the covenant of the Levite, saith the Lord of hosts.
Ka kuo mou he mei he hala; kuo mou fakahumu ʻae tokolahi ʻi he fono; kuo mou fakalieliaʻi ʻae fuakava ʻa Livai,” ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova ʻoe ngaahi kautau.
9 Therefore have I also made you contemptible and low before all the people, in the same measure as ye do not keep my ways, but act with partiality in the law.
“Ko ia kuo u ngaohi ai ʻakimoutolu ke mou fakalielia mo fākatua ʻi he ʻao ʻoe kakai kotoa pē, ʻo tatau mo hoʻomou taʻefai ki hoku ngaahi hala, ka kuo mou fai filifilimānako ʻi he fono.”
10 Have we not all one father? hath not one God created us? [then] why shall we deal treacherously every man against his brother, to profane the covenant of our fathers?
ʻIkai ʻoku tau tamai taha pe? ʻIkai ko e ʻOtua pe taha kuo ne ngaohi ʻakitautolu? Pea ko e hā ʻoku tau femalakiʻaki taki taha ʻae tangata ki hono tokoua, ʻi he maumauʻi ʻae fuakava ʻo ʻetau ngaahi tamai?
11 Judah hath dealt treacherously, and an abomination hath been committed in Israel and in Jerusalem; for Judah hath profaned the sanctuary of the Lord which he loveth, and hath married the daughter of a strange god.
Kuo fai kākā ʻa Siuta, pea ʻoku ʻai ʻae fakalielia ʻoku fai ʻi ʻIsileli, pea mo Selūsalema; he kuo fakalieliaʻi ʻe Siuta ʻae māʻoniʻoni ʻa Sihova, ʻaia ʻoku totonu ʻene ʻofa ki ai, pea kuo ne mali mo e ʻofefine ʻoe ʻotua loi.
12 The Lord will cut off unto the man that doth this, son and grandson, out of the tents of Jacob, and him that bringeth near an offering unto the Lord of hosts.
‌ʻE motuhi ʻe Sihova ʻae tangata ʻoku ne fai eni, ʻae akonaki, pea mo ia ʻoku akoʻi, mei he ngaahi fale fehikitaki ʻo Sēkope, pea mo ia ʻoku ʻatu ʻae feilaulau kia Sihova ʻoe ngaahi kautau.
13 And this do ye secondly, covering the altar of the Lord with tears, with weeping and with loud complaint, so that he turneth not any more his regard to the offerings, nor receiveth it with favor at your hand.
Pea kuo mou toe fai eni, ʻo ʻufiʻufi ʻaki ʻae loʻimata ʻae feilaulauʻanga ʻo Sihova, ʻi he tangi mo e kalanga: ko ia ia ʻoku ʻikai te ne kei tokanga ki he feilaulau, pe te ne maʻu lelei ia mei homou nima.
14 Yet ye say, Wherefore? Because the Lord hath been witness between thee and the wife of thy youth, against whom thou hast indeed dealt treacherously: yet is she thy companion, and the wife of thy covenant.
Ka naʻa mo ia, ʻoku mou pehē, ‘Ko e meʻa ʻi he hā?’ Koeʻuhi ko e fakamoʻoni ʻa Sihova kiate koe, pea mo e uaifi ʻo hoʻo kei talavou, ʻaia kuo ke fai kākā ki ai: ka ko e moʻoni ko hoʻo kaumeʻa ia, pea ko e ʻunoho ne ke fuakava ki ai.
15 And not one doth so who hath a remnant of a [good] spirit; for what desireth such a one? he seeketh [to possess] a godly posterity: therefore take heed to your spirit, and let none of you deal treacherously against the wife of his youth.
Ko ia ke mou tokanga ki hoʻomou anga, pea ʻoua naʻa fai kākā ʻe ha taha ki he uaifi ʻo ʻene kei talavou.”
16 For he hateth putting away [the wife], so hath said the Lord the God of Israel, and him who covereth his garment with violence, so hath said the Lord of hosts: therefore take heed to your spirit, and deal not treacherously.
He ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova, ko e ʻOtua ʻo ʻIsileli, “ʻOku ne fehiʻa ki he tukuange: he ʻoku ai ha taha ʻoku ʻufiʻufi ʻaki hono kofu ʻa ʻene fakamālohi,” ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova ʻoe ngaahi kautau: “ko ia, tokanga ki hoʻomou anga, ke ʻoua naʻa mou fai kākā.
17 Ye have wearied the Lord with your words: yet ye say, Wherein have we wearied him? By your saying, Every one that doth evil is good in the eyes of the Lord, and in them he findeth delight; or else, Where is the God of justice!
Kuo mou fakafiuʻi ʻa Sihova ʻaki hoʻomou ngaahi lea. Ka ʻoku mou pehē, ‘Kuo mau fakafiuʻi ia ʻi he hā?’ ʻOka mou ka pehē, ‘Ko ia kotoa pē ʻoku fai kovi ʻoku lelei ia ʻi he ʻao ʻo Sihova,’ pea ‘ʻOku ne fiemālie kiate kinautolu: pe, ‘Ko e fē ʻae ʻOtua ʻoku fakamaau?’
