Malachi 2
1 And now, this commandment is for you, O ye priests.
Maintenant donc, c’est pour vous qu’est ce décret, ô prêtres.
2 If ye will not hear, and if ye will not lay it to heart, to give glory unto my name, saith the Lord of hosts: I will even send out against you a curse, and I will curse your blessings; yea, I will curse the same, because ye do not lay it to heart.
Si vous n’écoutez pas et si vous ne prenez pas à cœur de donner gloire à mon nom, dit Yahweh des armées, j’enverrai contre vous la malédiction, et je maudirai vos bénédictions; – et déjà je les ai maudites, parce que vous n’avez pas pris à cœur! –
3 Behold, I will destroy unto you the seed, and spread dung upon your faces, even the dung of your festive offerings; and one shall take you away with it.
Voici que je ferai manquer vos semences, je répandrai du fumier sur vos visages, le fumier de vos fêtes, et on vous emportera avec lui.
4 And ye shall thereby know that I have sent out unto you this commandment, that my covenant might be with Levi, saith the Lord of hosts.
Vous saurez alors que je vous ai adressé ce décret, afin que mon alliance avec Lévi demeure, dit Yahweh des armées.
5 My covenant was with him life and peace; and I gave them to him for the fear wherewith he feared me, and because of my name he had dread.
Mon alliance avec Lévi fut une alliance de vie et de paix, et je lui donnai ces biens; une alliance de crainte, et il me craignit et trembla devant mon nom.
6 The law of truth was in his mouth, and falsehood was not found on his lips: in peace and equity he walked with me, and many did he turn away from iniquity.
La loi de vérité était dans sa bouche, et il ne se trouvait pas d’iniquité sur ses lèvres; il marchait avec moi dans la paix et la droiture, et il détourna du mal un grand nombre d’hommes.
7 For the priest's lips are ever to keep knowledge, and the law are they to seek from his mouth; for he is the messenger of the Lord of hosts.
Car les lèvres du prêtre gardent la science, et de sa bouche on demande l’enseignement, parce qu’il est l’ange de Yahweh des armées.
8 But ye are indeed departed out of the way; ye have caused many to stumble in the law; ye have corrupted the covenant of the Levite, saith the Lord of hosts.
Mais vous, vous vous êtes écartés de la voie; vous en avez fait trébucher un grand nombre dans la loi; vous avez perverti l’alliance de Lévi, dit Yahweh des armées.
9 Therefore have I also made you contemptible and low before all the people, in the same measure as ye do not keep my ways, but act with partiality in the law.
Et moi, à mon tour, je vous ai rendus méprisables et vils pour tout le peuple, parce que vous ne gardez pas mes voies et que vous avez égard aux personnes en appliquant la loi.
10 Have we not all one father? hath not one God created us? [then] why shall we deal treacherously every man against his brother, to profane the covenant of our fathers?
N’y a-t-il pas un même père pour nous tous? Un même Dieu ne nous a-t-il pas tous créés? Pourquoi sommes-nous infidèles l’un envers l’autre, profanant l’alliance de nos pères?
11 Judah hath dealt treacherously, and an abomination hath been committed in Israel and in Jerusalem; for Judah hath profaned the sanctuary of the Lord which he loveth, and hath married the daughter of a strange god.
Juda est infidèle, et une abomination est commise en Israël et à Jérusalem; car Juda profane ce qui est consacré à Yahweh, ce que Yahweh aime; il épouse la fille d’un dieu étranger.
12 The Lord will cut off unto the man that doth this, son and grandson, out of the tents of Jacob, and him that bringeth near an offering unto the Lord of hosts.
Pour l’homme qui fait cela, que Yahweh retranche des tentes de Jacob celui qui veille et celui qui répond, et celui qui offre l’oblation à Yahweh des armées!
13 And this do ye secondly, covering the altar of the Lord with tears, with weeping and with loud complaint, so that he turneth not any more his regard to the offerings, nor receiveth it with favor at your hand.
Voici une seconde chose que vous faites: vous couvrez de larmes l’autel de Yahweh, vous le couvrez de pleurs et de gémissements, en sorte que Yahweh n’a plus égard à l’oblation, et qu’il ne reçoit plus de votre main une offrande agréable.
14 Yet ye say, Wherefore? Because the Lord hath been witness between thee and the wife of thy youth, against whom thou hast indeed dealt treacherously: yet is she thy companion, and the wife of thy covenant.
Et vous dites: « Pourquoi? » – Parce que Yahweh a été témoin entre toi et la femme de ta jeunesse, à laquelle tu as été infidèle, elle qui était ta compagne et la femme de ton alliance.
15 And not one doth so who hath a remnant of a [good] spirit; for what desireth such a one? he seeketh [to possess] a godly posterity: therefore take heed to your spirit, and let none of you deal treacherously against the wife of his youth.
Aucun n’a fait cela, ayant du reste de l’Esprit divin. – « Et que fit l’Un? » – Il cherchait une postérité divine. Prenez donc garde à votre vie, et que nul ne soit infidèle à la femme de sa jeunesse.
16 For he hateth putting away [the wife], so hath said the Lord the God of Israel, and him who covereth his garment with violence, so hath said the Lord of hosts: therefore take heed to your spirit, and deal not treacherously.
Car je hais la répudiation, dit Yahweh, le Dieu d’Israël; car c’est couvrir de violence son vêtement, dit Yahweh des armées. Prenez donc garde à votre vie et ne soyez pas infidèles.
17 Ye have wearied the Lord with your words: yet ye say, Wherein have we wearied him? By your saying, Every one that doth evil is good in the eyes of the Lord, and in them he findeth delight; or else, Where is the God of justice!
Vous avez fatigué Yahweh par vos paroles. Et vous dites: « En quoi l’avons-nous fatigué? » — En disant: « Quiconque fait le mal est bon aux yeux de Yahweh, et en ces gens-là il prend plaisir! » Ou bien: « Où est le Dieu de la justice? »
