Leviticus 10

1 And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took each his censer, and they put therein fire, and put thereon incense: and they brought near before the Lord a strange fire, which he had not commanded them.

Les fils d’Aaron, Nadab et Abihou, prenant chacun leur encensoir, y mirent du feu, sur lequel ils jetèrent de l’encens, et apportèrent devant le Seigneur un feu profane sans qu’il le leur eût commandé.

2 And there went out a fire from before the Lord, and consumed them, and they died before the Lord.

Et un feu s’élança de devant le Seigneur et les dévora, et ils moururent devant le Seigneur.

3 Then said Moses unto Aaron, This is what the Lord hath spoken, saying, On those who are near unto me will I be sanctified, and before all the people will I be glorified: and Aaron held his peace.

Moïse dit à Aaron: "C’Est là ce qu’avait déclaré l’Éternel en disant: Je veux être sanctifié par ceux qui m’approchent et glorifié à la face de tout le peuple!" Et Aaron garda le silence.

4 And Moses called unto Mishael and Elzaphan, the sons of 'Uzziel, the uncle of Aaron, and said unto them, Come near, carry your brethren from before the sanctuary to without the camp.

Moïse appela Michaël et Elçafan, fils d’Ouzziel, oncle d’Aaron, et leur dit: "Approchez! Emportez vos frères de devant le sanctuaire, hors du camp."

5 And they came near, and carried them in their coats to without the camp; as Moses had spoken.

Ils s’avancèrent et les transportèrent dans leurs tuniques hors du camp, selon ce qu’avait dit Moïse.

6 And Moses said unto Aaron, and unto Elazar and unto Ithamar, his sons, The hair of your head you shall not let grow long, and your garments you shall not rend, that ye die not, and that he be not wroth upon the whole congregation; but your brethren, the whole house of Israel, may bewail the burning which the Lord hath kindled.

Moïse dit à Aaron, et à Eléazar et Ithamar ses fils: "Ne découvrez point vos têtes et ne déchirez point vos vêtements, si vous ne voulez mourir et attirer la colère divine sur la communauté entière; à vos frères, à toute la maison d’Israël, de pleurer ceux qu’a brûlés le Seigneur.

7 And from the door of the tabernacle of the congregation shall ye not go out, lest ye die; for the anointing oil of the Lord is upon you; and they did according to the word of Moses.

Et ne quittez point le seuil de la Tente d’assignation, de peur que vous ne mouriez; car l’huile d’onction du Seigneur est sur vous." Ils se conformèrent à la parole de Moïse.

8 And the Lord spoke unto Aaron, saying,

L’Éternel parla ainsi à Aaron:

9 Wine or strong drink shalt thou not drink, neither thou, nor thy sons with thee, when ye go in unto the tabernacle of the congregation, lest ye die: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations.

"Tu ne boiras ni vin ni liqueur forte, toi non plus que tes fils, quand vous aurez à entrer dans la Tente d’assignation, afin que vous ne mouriez pas: règle perpétuelle pour vos générations;

10 So that ye may be able to distinguish between the holy and the unholy, and between the unclean and the clean;

et afin de pouvoir distinguer entre le sacré et le profane, entre l’impur et ce qui est pur,

11 And that ye may be able to teach the children of Israel all the statutes which the Lord hath spoken unto them by the hand of Moses.

et instruire les enfants d’Israël dans toutes les lois que l’Éternel leur a fait transmettre par Moïse."

12 And Moses spoke unto Aaron, and unto Elazar and unto Ithamar his sons, that were left, Take ye the meat-offering that is left of the fire-offerings of the Lord, and eat it unleavened beside the altar; for it is most holy.

Moïse dit à Aaron ainsi qu’à Eléazar et à Ithamar, ses fils survivants: "Prenez la part d’oblation qui reste des combustions du Seigneur, et mangez-la en pains azymes à côté de l’autel, car elle est éminemment sainte.

13 And ye shall eat it in a holy place, because it is thy fixed portion, and the fixed portion of thy sons, from the fire-offerings of the Lord; for so have I been commanded.

Vous la mangerez donc en lieu saint, c’est ton droit et celui de tes fils sur les combustions du Seigneur; car ainsi en ai-je reçu l’ordre.

14 And the breast which hath been waved and the shoulder which hath been lifted up, shall ye eat in a clean place, thou, and thy sons, and thy daughters with thee; for as thy fixed portion, and the fixed portion of thy sons, have they been given from the sacrifices of peace-offerings of the children of Israel.

Quant à la poitrine qui a été balancée et à la cuisse qui a été prélevée, vous les mangerez en lieu pur, toi ainsi que tes fils et tes filles; car elles ont été assignées comme revenu à toi et à tes enfants, sur les sacrifices rémunératoires des enfants d’Israël.

15 The shoulder which is waved and the breast which is lifted up, shall they bring with the fat of the fire-offering, to make therewith a waving before the Lord: and then shall it be thine, and thy sons with thee, as a fixed portion for ever; as the Lord hath commanded.

Cette cuisse à prélever et cette poitrine à balancer, ils doivent les joindre aux graisses destinées au feu, pour qu’on en opère le balancement devant le Seigneur; alors elles t’appartiendront, et de même à tes enfants, comme portion invariable, ainsi que l’a statué l’Éternel."

16 And the goat of the sin-offering Moses sought diligently, and behold, it was burnt: and he was angry with Elazar and Ithamar, the sons of Aaron who had been left, and said,

Au sujet du bouc expiatoire, Moïse fit des recherches, et il se trouva qu’on l’avait brûlé. Irrité contre Eléazar et Ithamar, les fils d’Aaron demeurés vivants, il dit:

17 Wherefore have ye not eaten the sin-offering in the holy place, seeing that it is most holy, and that he hath given it to you to bear the iniquity of the congregation, to make atonement for them before the Lord?

"Pourquoi n’avez-vous pas mangé l’expiatoire dans le saint lieu, alors que c’est une sainteté de premier ordre, et qu’on vous l’a donné pour assumer les fautes de la communauté, pour lui obtenir propitiation devant l’Éternel?

18 Behold, its blood was not brought within the holy place: ye should then have eaten it in the holy place, as I commanded.

Puisque le sang de cette victime n’a pas été introduit dans le sanctuaire intérieur, vous deviez la manger dans le sanctuaire, ainsi que je l’ai prescrit!"

19 And Aaron spoke unto Moses, Behold, this day have they offered their sin-offering, and their burnt-offering before the Lord; and things as these have befallen me: and if I had eaten the sin-offering today, would it have been pleasing in the eyes of the Lord?

Aaron répondit à Moïse: "Certes, aujourd’hui même ils ont offert leur expiatoire et leur holocauste devant le Seigneur, et pareille chose m’est advenue; or, si j’eusse mangé un expiatoire aujourd’hui, est-ce là ce qui plairait à l’Éternel?"

20 And when Moses heard this, it was pleasing in his eyes.

Moïse entendit, et il approuva.
