Lamentations 3
1 I am the man who hath seen affliction by the rod of his wrath.
Ich bin ein elender Mann, der die Rute seines Grimmes sehen muß.
2 Me hath he driven out, and led into darkness, but not into light.
Er hat mich geführet und lassen gehen in die Finsternis und nicht ins Licht.
3 Surely against me doth he turn again and again his hand all the day.
Er hat seine Hand gewendet wider mich und handelt gar anders mit mir für und für.
4 He hath caused my flesh and my skin to wear out, he hath broken my bones.
Er hat mein Fleisch und Haut alt gemacht und mein Gebein zerschlagen.
5 He hath built around me, and encompassed me with poison and hardship.
Er hat mich verbauet und mich mit Galle und Mühe umgeben.
6 In dark places hath he set me to dwell, like the dead of olden times.
Er hat mich in Finsternis gelegt, wie die Toten in der Welt.
7 He hath placed a fence round about me, that I cannot get out; he hath made heavy my chain.
Er hat mich vermauert, daß ich nicht heraus kann, und mich in harte Fesseln gelegt.
8 Also when I cry aloud and make entreaty, he shutteth out my prayer.
Und wenn ich gleich schreie und rufe, so stopft er die Ohren zu vor meinem Gebet.
9 He hath fenced up my ways with hewn stone, my paths hath he made crooked.
Er hat meinen Weg vermauert mit Werkstücken und meinen Steig umgekehret.
10 A bear lying in wait is he to me, a lion in secret places.
Er hat auf mich gelauert wie ein Bär, wie ein Löwe im Verborgenen.
11 On my ways hath he placed thorns, and torn me in pieces: he hath made me desolate.
Er läßt mich des Weges fehlen. Er hat mich zerstücket und zunichte gemacht.
12 He hath bent his bow, and placed me as a mark for the arrow.
Er hat seinen Bogen gespannet und mich dem Pfeil zum Ziel gesteckt.
13 He hath caused to enter into my reins the children of his quiver.
Er hat aus dem Köcher in meine Nieren schießen lassen.
14 I am become a laughing-stock to all my people, their [jeering] song all the day.
Ich bin ein Spott allem meinem Volk und täglich ihr Liedlein.
15 He hath sated me with bitter things, he hath made me drunken with wormwood.
Er hat mich mit Bitterkeit gesättiget und mit Wermut getränket.
16 He hath also broken my teeth with gravel-stones, he hath covered me with ashes.
Er hat meine Zähne zu kleinen Stücken zerschlagen. Er wälzet mich in der Asche.
17 And my soul hath given up all thoughts of peace: I forget happiness.
Meine Seele ist aus dem Frieden vertrieben; ich muß des Guten vergessen.
18 And I said, Lost is my strength, my expectation also from the Lord.
Ich sprach: Mein Vermögen ist dahin und meine Hoffnung am HERRN.
19 Remembering my affliction and [the cause of] my complaint, wormwood and poison.
Gedenke doch, wie ich so elend und verlassen, mit Wermut und Galle getränket bin.
20 Remembering [this] continually my soul is bowed down deeply within me.
Du wirst ja daran gedenken, denn meine Seele sagt mir's.
21 [Yet] this answer will I give to my heart: therefore will I wait [in confidence].
Das nehme ich zu Herzen, darum hoffe ich noch.
22 It is through the Lord's kindness that we are not consumed, because his mercies have no end;
Die Gute des HERRN ist, daß wir nicht gar aus sind; seine Barmherzigkeit hat noch kein Ende,
23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.
sondern sie ist alle Morgen neu, und deine Treue ist groß.
24 The Lord is my portion, saith my soul, therefore will I wait for him.
Der HERR ist mein Teil, spricht meine Seele, darum will ich auf ihn hoffen.
25 The Lord is good unto those that hope in him, to the soul that seeketh him.
Denn der HERR ist freundlich dem, der auf ihn harret, und der Seele, die nach ihm fraget.
26 It is good that one should wait and this in silence for the salvation of the Lord.
Es ist ein köstlich Ding, geduldig sein und auf die Hilfe des HERRN hoffen.
27 It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth;
Es ist ein köstlich Ding einem Manne, daß er das Joch in seiner Jugend trage,
28 That he sit in solitude and be silent; because He hath laid it upon him;
daß ein Verlassener geduldig sei, wenn ihn etwas überfällt,
29 That he put his mouth in the dust; perhaps there still is hope;
und seinen Mund in den Staub stecke und der Hoffnung erwarte
30 That he offer his cheek to him that smiteth him; that he be satisfied with reproach.
und lasse sich auf die Backen schlagen und ihm viel Schmach anlegen.
31 For the Lord will not cast off for ever;
Denn der HERR verstößt nicht ewiglich,
32 But though he have caused grief, yet will he have mercy according to the abundance of his kindnesses.
sondern er betrübet wohl und erbarmet sich wieder nach seiner großen Güte;
33 For he doth not afflict of his own will, and aggrieve the children of men.
denn er nicht von Herzen die Menschen plaget und betrübet,
34 To crush under his feet all the prisoners of the earth,
als wollte er alle die Gefangenen auf Erden gar unter seine Füße zertreten
35 To pervert the justice [due to man] before the face of the Most High.
und eines Mannes Recht vor dem Allerhöchsten beugen lassen
36 To subvert a man in his contest—should the Lord not see this?
und eines Menschen Sache verkehren lassen, gleich als sähe es der HERR nicht.
37 Who is he that saith aught, and it cometh to pass, when the Lord hath not ordained it?
Wer darf denn sagen, daß solches geschehe ohne des HERRN Befehl,
38 Do not out of the mouth of the Most High come both the evil things and the good?
und daß weder Böses noch Gutes komme aus dem Munde des Allerhöchsten?
39 Wherefore should a living man complain? let every man complain because of his sins.
Wie murren denn die Leute im Leben also? Ein jeglicher murre wider seine Sünde!
40 Let us search through and investigate our ways, and let us return to the Lord.
Und laßt uns forschen und suchen unser Wesen und uns zum HERRN bekehren.
41 Let us lift up our heart with our hands unto God in the heavens.
Laßt uns unser Herz samt den Händen aufheben zu Gott im Himmel.
42 We have indeed transgressed and rebelled: thou hast truly not pardoned.
Wir, wir haben gesündiget und sind ungehorsam gewesen. Darum hast du billig nicht verschonet,
43 Thou hast covered [us] with thy anger, and made pursuit after us: thou hast slain, thou hast not pitied.
sondern du hast uns mit Zorn überschüttet und verfolget und ohne Barmherzigkeit erwürget.
44 Thou hast covered thyself with a cloud, that no prayer should pass through.
Du hast dich mit einer Wolke verdeckt, daß kein Gebet hindurch konnte.
45 As something loathsome and rejected hast thou rendered us in the midst of the people.
Du hast uns zu Kot und Unflat gemacht unter den Völkern.
46 Wide have all our enemies opened against us their mouth.
Alle unsere Feinde sperren ihr Maul auf wider uns.
47 Terror and a snare are come upon us, [with] desolation and breaches.
Wir werden gedrückt und geplagt mit Schrecken und Angst.
48 With streams of water runneth my eye down, because of the breach of the daughter of my people.
Meine Augen rinnen mit Wasserbächen über dem Jammer der Tochter meines Volks.
49 My eye trickleth down, and resteth not, without any intermission,
Meine Augen fließen und können nicht ablassen; denn es ist kein Aufhören da,
50 Till the Lord look down, and behold from heaven.
bis der HERR vom Himmel herabschaue und sehe darein.
51 My eye affecteth my soul because of all the daughters of my city.
Mein Auge frißt mir das Leben weg um die Tochter meiner Stadt.
52 Those who are my enemies, without a cause, have chased me about like a bird.
Meine Feinde haben mich gehetzet, wie einen Vogel, ohne Ursache.
53 They have shut up in the dungeon my life, and have cast stones upon me.
Sie haben mein Leben in einer Grube umgebracht und Steine auf mich geworfen.
54 Waters streamed over my head: I said, I am cut off.
Sie haben auch mein Haupt mit Wasser überschüttet. Da sprach ich: Nun bin ich gar dahin.
55 I called on thy name, O Lord, out of the dungeon of the lowest depth.
Ich rief aber deinen Namen an, HERR, unten aus der Grube;
56 Thou didst hear my voice: hide not thy ear to give me enlargement at my cry.
und du erhöretest meine Stimme. Verbirg deine Ohren nicht vor meinem Seufzen und Schreien!
57 Thou wast ever near on the day that I called on thee: thou saidst, Fear not.
Nahe dich zu mir, wenn ich dich anrufe, und sprich: Fürchte dich nicht!
58 Thou didst plead, O Lord, the causes of my soul: thou didst [before this] redeem my life.
Führe du, HERR, die Sache meiner Seele und erlöse mein Leben!
59 Thou hast [now] seen, O Lord, the wrong I suffer: judge thou my cause.
HERR, schaue, wie mir so unrecht geschieht, und hilf mir zu meinem Recht!
60 Thou hast seen all their vengeance, all their plans against me.
Du siehest alle ihre Rache und alle ihre Gedanken wider mich.
61 Thou hast heard their reviling, O Lord, all their plans against me,
HERR, du hörest ihre Schmach und alle ihre Gedanken über mich,
62 The speeches of these that rise up against me, and their device against me all the day.
die Lippen meiner Widerwärtigen und ihr Dichten wider mich täglich.
63 Oh look upon their sitting down, and their rising up: I am their [jeering] song.
Schaue doch; sie gehen nieder oder stehen auf, so singen sie von mir Liedlein.
64 Render unto them a recompense, O Lord, according to the work of their hands.
Vergilt ihnen, HERR, wie sie verdienet haben!
65 Give them confusion of heart, thy curse he upon them.
Laß ihnen das Herz erschrecken und deinen Fluch fühlen!
66 Pursue them in anger and destroy from under the heavens of the Lord.
Verfolge sie mit Grimm und vertilge sie unter dem Himmel des HERRN!
