Lamentations 3
1 I am the man who hath seen affliction by the rod of his wrath.
Ich bin der Mann, der Elend hat erfahren durch seines Grimmes Rute.
2 Me hath he driven out, and led into darkness, but not into light.
Mich drängte er und führte mich in Finsternis und tiefes Dunkel.
3 Surely against me doth he turn again and again his hand all the day.
An mir erprobt er immer wieder seine Macht den ganzen Tag.
4 He hath caused my flesh and my skin to wear out, he hath broken my bones.
Er rieb mir auf mein Fleisch und meine Haut, zerbrach mir mein Gebein.
5 He hath built around me, and encompassed me with poison and hardship.
Und eingeschritten ist er gegen mich mit Gift und Aufhängen,
6 In dark places hath he set me to dwell, like the dead of olden times.
versetzte mich in Finsternis wie ewig Tote.
7 He hath placed a fence round about me, that I cannot get out; he hath made heavy my chain.
Er mauerte mich ein, ließ keinen Ausweg offen, beschwerte mich mit Ketten.
8 Also when I cry aloud and make entreaty, he shutteth out my prayer.
Ob ich auch schreie, rufe, er weist mein Beten ab,
9 He hath fenced up my ways with hewn stone, my paths hath he made crooked.
versperrt mit Pfählen meine Wege, verstört mir meine Pfade.
10 A bear lying in wait is he to me, a lion in secret places.
Er ist mir wie ein Bär, der lauert, ein Löwe in dem Hinterhalt.
11 On my ways hath he placed thorns, and torn me in pieces: he hath made me desolate.
Er kreist um meine Wege, umschließt mich, macht mich einsam,
12 He hath bent his bow, and placed me as a mark for the arrow.
dann spannt er seinen Bogen und stellt als Ziel mich auf für seine Pfeile.
13 He hath caused to enter into my reins the children of his quiver.
Er schießt mir in die Nieren des Köchers Söhne.
14 I am become a laughing-stock to all my people, their [jeering] song all the day.
Ich wurde meinem ganzen Volke zum Gespött, ihr Spottlied für den ganzen Tag.
15 He hath sated me with bitter things, he hath made me drunken with wormwood.
Mit Bitternissen machte er mich satt, berauschte mich mit Wermut,
16 He hath also broken my teeth with gravel-stones, he hath covered me with ashes.
zermalmen ließ er meine Zähne Kiesel und wälzte mich im Staube.
17 And my soul hath given up all thoughts of peace: I forget happiness.
Des Glücks beraubt ward meine Seele, daß ich des Heiles ganz vergaß
18 And I said, Lost is my strength, my expectation also from the Lord.
und sprach: "Dahin ist meine Lebenskraft und meine Hoffnung auf den Herrn."
19 Remembering my affliction and [the cause of] my complaint, wormwood and poison.
Ja, der Gedanke an mein Elend, meine Irrsale, ist Wermut mir und Gift.
20 Remembering [this] continually my soul is bowed down deeply within me.
Und doch denkt meine Seele dran und sinnt in mir.
21 [Yet] this answer will I give to my heart: therefore will I wait [in confidence].
Und ich bedachte dies und schöpfte daraus meine Hoffnung.
22 It is through the Lord's kindness that we are not consumed, because his mercies have no end;
Des Herren Huld ist nicht zu Ende und sein Erbarmen nicht erschöpft.
23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.
Neu ist's an jedem Morgen; ja: "Groß ist Deine Treue;
24 The Lord is my portion, saith my soul, therefore will I wait for him.
mein Anteil ist der Herr", spricht meine Seele; "drum hoffe ich auf ihn."
25 The Lord is good unto those that hope in him, to the soul that seeketh him.
Der Herr ist denen gütig, die seiner harren, und einer Seele, die ihn sucht.
26 It is good that one should wait and this in silence for the salvation of the Lord.
Drum ist es gut, schweigend des Herren Hilfe zu erwarten.
27 It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth;
Gar heilsam ist es für den Mann, das Joch in seiner Jugend schon zu tragen.
28 That he sit in solitude and be silent; because He hath laid it upon him;
Er sitze einsam da und schweige, weil er's ihm auferlegt!
29 That he put his mouth in the dust; perhaps there still is hope;
Mit seinem Mund berühre er den Staub! Vielleicht gibt's dann noch Hoffnung.
30 That he offer his cheek to him that smiteth him; that he be satisfied with reproach.
Er biete seine Wange jenem dar, der nach ihm schlägt, und lasse sich mit Schmach ersättigen!
31 For the Lord will not cast off for ever;
Denn nicht auf ewig will der Herr verstoßen.
32 But though he have caused grief, yet will he have mercy according to the abundance of his kindnesses.
Und fügt er auch Betrübnis zu, erbarmt er sich auch wieder seiner Gnadenfülle nach.
33 For he doth not afflict of his own will, and aggrieve the children of men.
Denn nicht aus Lust erniedrigt er und beugt die Menschenkinder,
34 To crush under his feet all the prisoners of the earth,
damit man mit den Füßen all die Gefangenen des Landes trete,
35 To pervert the justice [due to man] before the face of the Most High.
daß man das Recht der Leute beuge, das sie beim Allerhöchsten haben.
36 To subvert a man in his contest—should the Lord not see this?
Daß jemandem sein Recht genommen wird, das kann der Herr nicht billigen.
37 Who is he that saith aught, and it cometh to pass, when the Lord hath not ordained it?
Wer ist's, der sprach, und es geschah, und nicht befohlen hätte es der Herr?
38 Do not out of the mouth of the Most High come both the evil things and the good?
Ja, kommt nicht aus des Höchsten Mund das Schlimme wie das Gute?
39 Wherefore should a living man complain? let every man complain because of his sins.
Was klagt ein Mensch im Leben, ein Mann ob seiner Sündenstrafe?
40 Let us search through and investigate our ways, and let us return to the Lord.
Laßt uns doch unsern Wandel prüfen und erforschen und uns zum Herrn bekehren!
41 Let us lift up our heart with our hands unto God in the heavens.
Laßt uns die Herzen lieber als die Hände zu Gott im Himmel heben:
42 We have indeed transgressed and rebelled: thou hast truly not pardoned.
"Gesündigt haben wir in Widerspenstigkeit; Du hast uns nicht vergeben.
43 Thou hast covered [us] with thy anger, and made pursuit after us: thou hast slain, thou hast not pitied.
Du hast mit Zorn uns ganz bedeckt, verfolgt, gemordet mitleidlos.
44 Thou hast covered thyself with a cloud, that no prayer should pass through.
Du hast Dich in Gewölk gehüllt, daß kein Gebet hindurch mehr dringe.
45 As something loathsome and rejected hast thou rendered us in the midst of the people.
Zu Kehricht und zum Auswurf hast Du uns gemacht inmitten jener Völker.
46 Wide have all our enemies opened against us their mouth.
Weit rissen über uns den Mund all unsre Feinde auf.
47 Terror and a snare are come upon us, [with] desolation and breaches.
Zu Angst und Furcht ward uns Verwüstung und Verderben."
48 With streams of water runneth my eye down, because of the breach of the daughter of my people.
Mein Auge weinte Wasserströme ob der Vernichtung, die getroffen meines Volkes Tochter.
49 My eye trickleth down, and resteth not, without any intermission,
Und ohne Ruhe fließt mein Auge und ohne Rasten,
50 Till the Lord look down, and behold from heaven.
bis daß herniederschaue und es sehe der Herr vom Himmel.
51 My eye affecteth my soul because of all the daughters of my city.
Mein Auge klagt ohn Ende ob all den Töchtern meiner Stadt.
52 Those who are my enemies, without a cause, have chased me about like a bird.
Mich jagten hin und her wie einen Vogel, die mir so grundlos Feinde waren.
53 They have shut up in the dungeon my life, and have cast stones upon me.
Mein Leben wollten sie vernichten in der Grube; mit Steinen warfen sie auf mich.
54 Waters streamed over my head: I said, I am cut off.
Dann strömte übers Haupt mir Wasser; ich sprach: "Ich bin verloren."
55 I called on thy name, O Lord, out of the dungeon of the lowest depth.
Da rief ich Deinen Namen, Herr, aus tiefster Grube an.
56 Thou didst hear my voice: hide not thy ear to give me enlargement at my cry.
Du hörtest meine Stimme: "Ach, verschließe meinem Rufen und meinem Seufzen nicht Dein Ohr!"
57 Thou wast ever near on the day that I called on thee: thou saidst, Fear not.
Du nahtest, als ich Dich gerufen; Du sprachst: "Sei nur getrost!"
58 Thou didst plead, O Lord, the causes of my soul: thou didst [before this] redeem my life.
Du führtest meine Sache, Herr; Du wahrtest mir das Leben.
59 Thou hast [now] seen, O Lord, the wrong I suffer: judge thou my cause.
Nun siehst Du, Herr: Bedrückt bin ich. Verhilf zu meinem Rechte mir!
60 Thou hast seen all their vengeance, all their plans against me.
All ihre Rachgier schauest Du, all ihre Pläne gegen mich,
61 Thou hast heard their reviling, O Lord, all their plans against me,
Du hörst ihr Schmähen, Herr, und all ihr Planen gegen mich,
62 The speeches of these that rise up against me, and their device against me all the day.
die Reden meiner Widersacher, ihr stetes Trachten gegen mich.
63 Oh look upon their sitting down, and their rising up: I am their [jeering] song.
Ihr Sitzen und ihr Aufstehn schau Dir an! Zum Spottlied bin ich ihnen.
64 Render unto them a recompense, O Lord, according to the work of their hands.
Du lohnest ihnen, Herr, nach ihrer Hände Werk.
65 Give them confusion of heart, thy curse he upon them.
Verblendung gibst Du ihrem Herzen, gibst ihnen Deinen Fluch.
66 Pursue them in anger and destroy from under the heavens of the Lord.
Im Zorn verfolgst Du sie und tilgst sie unterm Himmel, Herr.
