< Lamentations 3 >

1 I am the man who hath seen affliction by the rod of his wrath.
Kai tah a thinpom caitueng dongkah phacipphabaem aka hmu hlang ni.
2 Me hath he driven out, and led into darkness, but not into light.
Kai te m'hmaithawn tih hmaisuep ah n'caeh sak vaengah vangnah om pawh.
3 Surely against me doth he turn again and again his hand all the day.
Kai taengah a tloeng tangloeng tih khohnin yung ah a kut a hluem.
4 He hath caused my flesh and my skin to wear out, he hath broken my bones.
Ka vin neh ka saa a hmawn sak tih ka rhuh a paep sak.
5 He hath built around me, and encompassed me with poison and hardship.
Kai he rhahalung n'suem thil tih sue neh bongboepnah te m'ven thil.
6 In dark places hath he set me to dwell, like the dead of olden times.
Ka khosak he khosuen kah aka duek bangla khohmuep ah ka om.
7 He hath placed a fence round about me, that I cannot get out; he hath made heavy my chain.
Kai taengah khoep a biing tih ka rhohum loh n'nan he ka loeih pawh.
8 Also when I cry aloud and make entreaty, he shutteth out my prayer.
Ka khue tih ka pang vaengah pataeng ka thangthuinah te a toeng.
9 He hath fenced up my ways with hewn stone, my paths hath he made crooked.
Lungrhaih neh ka longpuei a biing tih ka hawn a paihaeh sak.
10 A bear lying in wait is he to me, a lion in secret places.
Kai taengah tah vom neh sathueng pataeng a huephael kah sathueng bangla amah rhongngol coeng.
11 On my ways hath he placed thorns, and torn me in pieces: he hath made me desolate.
Ka longpuei ah m'phaelh sak tih kai n'soek dongah kai aka pong la n'khueh.
12 He hath bent his bow, and placed me as a mark for the arrow.
A lii a phuk tih thaltang ham kutnoek la kai n'tai.
13 He hath caused to enter into my reins the children of his quiver.
Anih kah liva ca loh ka kuel khuila pawlh.
14 I am become a laughing-stock to all my people, their [jeering] song all the day.
Ka pilnam pum kah nueihbu neh khohnin yung ah amih kah rhotoeng la ka poeh.
15 He hath sated me with bitter things, he hath made me drunken with wormwood.
Ankhaa te kai ng'kum sak tih pantong neh kai m'hmilhmal sak.
16 He hath also broken my teeth with gravel-stones, he hath covered me with ashes.
Ka no he lungcang neh a mawth tih hmaiphu khuiah kai m'vuei.
17 And my soul hath given up all thoughts of peace: I forget happiness.
Ka hinglu he ngaimongnah lamloh a hlahpham tih a then khaw ka hnilh.
18 And I said, Lost is my strength, my expectation also from the Lord.
Te dongah kai kah hmailong neh BOEIPA lamkah ka ngaiuepnah khaw paltham coeng ka ti.
19 Remembering my affliction and [the cause of] my complaint, wormwood and poison.
Kai kah phaiphabaem neh ka airhoeng khaw, ka pantong neh ka anrhat khaw poek lah.
20 Remembering [this] continually my soul is bowed down deeply within me.
A poek a poek vaengah ka khuikah ka hinglu tah tlayae la tlayae coeng.
21 [Yet] this answer will I give to my heart: therefore will I wait [in confidence].
He he ka ngaiuep dongah ni ka lungbuei he ka mael puei.
22 It is through the Lord's kindness that we are not consumed, because his mercies have no end;
BOEIPA kah sitlohnah tah bawt pawt tih a haidamnah khaw muei pawh.
23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.
Mincang ah na uepomnah thai khaw ping.
24 The Lord is my portion, saith my soul, therefore will I wait for him.
Ka hinglu loh, “BOEIPA tah ka khoyo ni,” a ti dongah amah te ka ngaiuep van.
25 The Lord is good unto those that hope in him, to the soul that seeketh him.
BOEIPA tah amah aka lamtawn ham neh amah aka toem hinglu ham a then pah.
26 It is good that one should wait and this in silence for the salvation of the Lord.
BOEIPA kah loeihnah dongah tah rhingoel ngolsut ham khaw then.
27 It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth;
A camoe vaengah hnamkun a phueih te ni hlang ham khaw then.
28 That he sit in solitude and be silent; because He hath laid it upon him;
Amah soah a poeh bangla amah bueng khosa saeh lamtah kuemsuem saeh.
29 That he put his mouth in the dust; perhaps there still is hope;
A ka te laipi khuiah vuei saeh lamtah ngaiuepnah a om khaming.
30 That he offer his cheek to him that smiteth him; that he be satisfied with reproach.
Amah aka ngawn ham a kam duen pah saeh lamtah kokhahnah neh kum saeh.
31 For the Lord will not cast off for ever;
Ka Boeipa loh kumhal duela a hlahpham ngawn moenih.
32 But though he have caused grief, yet will he have mercy according to the abundance of his kindnesses.
Pae sak bal mai cakhaw a sitlohnah dongkah sitlohnah a khawk vanbangla a haidam bitni.
33 For he doth not afflict of his own will, and aggrieve the children of men.
Hlang ca te a lungbuei a phaep pah tih a pae sak bal moenih.
34 To crush under his feet all the prisoners of the earth,
Khohmuen kah thongtla boeih te a kho hmuiah a phop ham,
35 To pervert the justice [due to man] before the face of the Most High.
Khohni kah mikhmuh ah hlang kah tiktamnah hnawt ham,
36 To subvert a man in his contest—should the Lord not see this?
A tuituknah neh hlang a khun sak ham khaw ka Boeipa loh a hmuh ngaih moenih.
37 Who is he that saith aught, and it cometh to pass, when the Lord hath not ordained it?
Ka Boeipa loh a uen pawt te om ni tila unim aka thui thai.
38 Do not out of the mouth of the Most High come both the evil things and the good?
A thae neh a then khaw Khohni ka lamloh thoeng pawt nim.
39 Wherefore should a living man complain? let every man complain because of his sins.
A tholhnah sokah a tholhnah yuvat ah balae tih tongpa hlang hing loh a kohuet mai eh.
40 Let us search through and investigate our ways, and let us return to the Lord.
Mamih kah longpuei he phuelhthaih tih n'khe phoeiah BOEIPA taengla mael uh sih.
41 Let us lift up our heart with our hands unto God in the heavens.

42 We have indeed transgressed and rebelled: thou hast truly not pardoned.
Kaimih kah boekoek neh nang kan koek uh te khodawk nan ngai uh moenih.
43 Thou hast covered [us] with thy anger, and made pursuit after us: thou hast slain, thou hast not pitied.

44 Thou hast covered thyself with a cloud, that no prayer should pass through.
Thangthuinah neh paan ham khaw namah te cingmai neh na cun uh.
45 As something loathsome and rejected hast thou rendered us in the midst of the people.
Kaimih he pilnam lakli ah yun-aek neh kawnhnawt la nan khueh.
46 Wide have all our enemies opened against us their mouth.
Ka thunkha boeih loh kaimih taengah a ka a ang uh.
47 Terror and a snare are come upon us, [with] desolation and breaches.
Birhihnah neh rhom khaw kaimih taengah omdamnah neh pocinah la thoeng.
48 With streams of water runneth my eye down, because of the breach of the daughter of my people.
Ka pilnam nu kah a pocinah dongah ka mik he sokca tui la long.
49 My eye trickleth down, and resteth not, without any intermission,
Ka mik loh a hawk vetih a bawtnah om pawt hil kak mahpawh.

53 They have shut up in the dungeon my life, and have cast stones upon me.

54 Waters streamed over my head: I said, I am cut off.
Ka lu he tui loh a et vaengah tah n'tuiphih muema ka ti.
55 I called on thy name, O Lord, out of the dungeon of the lowest depth.

56 Thou didst hear my voice: hide not thy ear to give me enlargement at my cry.
Ka hilhoemnah ham ka pang te hna na buem pawt dongah ka ol na yaak coeng.
57 Thou wast ever near on the day that I called on thee: thou saidst, Fear not.
Namah kang khue khohnin ah na mop tih, “Rhih boeh,” na ti.
58 Thou didst plead, O Lord, the causes of my soul: thou didst [before this] redeem my life.
Ka hinglu kah tuituknah khaw ka Boeipa loh na rhoe tih ka hingnah na tlan.
59 Thou hast [now] seen, O Lord, the wrong I suffer: judge thou my cause.

60 Thou hast seen all their vengeance, all their plans against me.
Kai soah amih kah tawnlohnah boeih neh amih kah kopoek boeih te na hmuh.
61 Thou hast heard their reviling, O Lord, all their plans against me,

62 The speeches of these that rise up against me, and their device against me all the day.

63 Oh look upon their sitting down, and their rising up: I am their [jeering] song.
A hoepnah neh a painah ah, amih kah hnaelnah ni ka paelki.
64 Render unto them a recompense, O Lord, according to the work of their hands.
BOEIPA aw, amih kut dongkah khoboe neh a tiing la amih te thuung lah.
65 Give them confusion of heart, thy curse he upon them.
