Judges 9
1 And Abimelech the son of Yerubba'al went to Shechem unto his mother's brothers, and spoke unto them, and unto all the family of the house of his mother's father, saying,
| روزی ابیملک پسر جدعون برای دیدن خاندان مادرش به شکیم رفت و به ایشان گفت: «بروید و به اهالی شکیم بگویید که آیا می‌خواهند هفتاد پسر جدعون بر آنها پادشاهی کنند یا فقط یک نفر یعنی خودم که از گوشت و استخوان ایشان هستم؟» |
2 Speak, I pray you, in the ears of all the men of Shechem, What is better for you, either that there should rule over you seventy men, all the sons of Yerubba'al, or that there reign over you one man? and remember that I am your bone and your flesh.
3 And his mother's brothers spoke concerning him in the ears of all the men of Shechem all these words; and their heart became inclined after Abimelech; for they said, He is our brother.
| پس آنها پیشنهاد ابیملک را با اهالی شهر در میان گذاشتند و ایشان تصمیم گرفتند از ابیملک پیروی کنند، زیرا مادرش اهل شکیم بود. |
4 And they gave him seventy pieces of silver out of the house of Ba'al-berith; and Abimelech hired therewith idle and heedless persons, who followed him.
| آنها از بتخانهٔ بعل‌بریت، هفتاد مثقال نقره به ابیملک دادند و او افراد ولگردی را برای اجرای مقاصد خود اجیر کرد. |
5 And he came unto his father's house at 'Ophrah, and slew his brothers the sons of Yeruhba'al, seventy persons, upon one stone; and there was yet left Yotham the youngest son of Yerubba'al; for he had hidden himself.
| پس آنها را با خود برداشته، به خانهٔ پدرش در عفره رفت و در آنجا بر روی سنگی هفتاد برادر خود را کشت. اما یوتام کوچکترین برادرش خود را پنهان کرد و او زنده ماند. |
6 And all the men of Shechem and all Beth-millo assembled together, and went, and made Abimelech king, by the oak of the pillar that was by Shechem.
| آنگاه تمام اهالی شکیم و بیت‌ملو کنار درخت بلوطی که در شکیم است جمع شده، ابیملک را به پادشاهی اسرائیل برگزیدند. |
7 And they told it to Yotham; and he went and stood on the top of mount Gerizzim, and he lifted up his voice, and cried; and he said unto them, Hearken unto me, ye men of Shechem, so that God may hearken unto you.
| چون یوتام این را شنید، به کوه جرزیم رفت و ایستاده، با صدای بلند به اهالی شکیم گفت: «اگر طالب برکت خداوند هستید، به من گوش کنید! |
8 The trees went once forth to anoint a king over them; and they said unto the olive-tree, Reign thou over us.
| روزی درختان تصمیم گرفتند برای خود پادشاهی انتخاب کنند. اول از درخت زیتون خواستند که پادشاه آنها شود، |
9 But the olive-tree said unto them, Should I give up my fatness, wherewith through me they honor God and men, and shall I go to be promoted over the trees!
| اما درخت زیتون نپذیرفت و گفت: آیا درست است که من تنها به دلیل سلطنت بر درختان دیگر، از تولید روغن زیتون که باعث عزت و احترام خدا و انسان می‌شود، دست بکشم؟ |
10 And the trees said to the fig-tree, Come thou, reign over us.
| سپس درختان نزد درخت انجیر رفتند و از او خواستند تا بر ایشان سلطنت نماید. |
11 But the fig-tree said unto them, Should I give up my sweetness, and my good productiveness, and go to be promoted over the trees?
| درخت انجیر نیز قبول نکرد و گفت: آیا تولید میوهٔ خوب و شیرین خود را ترک نمایم صرفاً برای اینکه بر درختان دیگر حکمرانی کنم؟ |
12 Then said the trees unto the vine, Come thou, reign over us.
| بعد به درخت انگور گفتند که بر آنها پادشاهی کند. |
13 But the vine said unto them, Should I give up my fresh wine, which rejoiceth God and men, and go to be promoted over the trees!
| درخت انگور نیز جواب داد: آیا از تولید شیره که خدا و انسان را به وجد می‌آورد دست بردارم، فقط برای اینکه بر درختان دیگر سلطنت کنم؟ |
14 Then said all the trees unto the bramble, Come thou, reign over us.
| سرانجام همهٔ درختان به بوتهٔ خار روی آوردند و از آن خواستند تا بر آنها سلطنت کند. |
15 And the bramble said unto the trees, If in truth ye anoint me as king over you, then come seek protection in my shadow; and if not, then let fire come out of the bramble, and devour the cedars of the Lebanon.
| خار در جواب گفت: اگر واقعاً می‌خواهید که من بر شما حکمرانی کنم، بیایید و زیر سایهٔ من پناه بگیرید! در غیر این صورت آتش از من زبانه خواهد کشید و سروهای بزرگ لبنان را خواهد سوزاند. |
16 And now, if ye have acted in truth and sincerity, when ye made Abimelech king, and if ye have dealt well with Yerubba'al and his house, and have done unto him according to the merit of his hands;
| «حال فکر کنید و ببینید آیا با پادشاه ساختن ابیملک عمل درستی انجام داده‌اید و نسبت به جدعون و فرزندانش به حق رفتار نموده‌اید؟ |
17 (In that my father fought for you, and cast his life far away, and delivered you out of the hand of Midian;
| پدرم برای شما جنگید و جان خود را به خطر انداخت و شما را از دست مدیانیان رهانید. |
18 While ye are risen up against my father's house this day, and have slain his sons, seventy men, upon one stone, and have made Abimelech, the son of his maid-servant, king over the men of Shechem, because he is your brother; )
| با وجود این، شما علیه او قیام کردید و هفتاد پسرش را روی یک سنگ کشتید و ابیملک پسر کنیز پدرم را به پادشاهی خود برگزیده‌اید فقط به سبب اینکه با شما خویش است. |
19 If ye have thus acted in truth and sincerity with Yerubba'al and with his house this day: then rejoice ye in Abimelech, and let him also rejoice in you.
| اگر یقین دارید که رفتارتان در حق جدعون و پسرانش درست بوده است، پس باشد که شما و ابیملک با یکدیگر خوش باشید. |
20 But if not, let fire come out from Abimelech, and devour the men of Shechem and Beth-millo; and let fire come out from the men of Shechem, and from Beth-millo, and devour Abimelech.
| اما اگر بر جدعون و فرزندانش ظلم کرده‌اید، آتشی از ابیملک بیرون بیاید و اهالی شکیم و بیت‌ملو را بسوزاند و از آنها هم آتشی بیرون بیاید و ابیملک را بسوزاند.» |
21 And Yotham ran away, and fled, and went to Beer, and dwelt there, for fear of Abimelech his brother.
| آنگاه یوتام از ترس برادرش ابیملک به بئیر گریخت و در آنجا ساکن شد. |
22 And Abimelech ruled over Israel three years;
| سه سال پس از حکومت ابیملک، خدا رابطهٔ بین ابیملک و مردم شکیم را به هم زد و آنها شورش کردند. |
23 And then did God send an evil spirit between Abimelech and the men of Shechem; and the men of Shechem became unfaithful toward Abimelech;
24 So that the violence [done] to the seventy sons of Yerubba'al might come, and their blood be laid upon Abimelech their brother, who had slain them; and upon the men of Shechem, who had strengthened his hands to slay his brothers.
| خدا این کار را کرد تا ابیملک و مردمان شکیم که او را در کشتن هفتاد پسر جدعون یاری کرده بودند، به سزای اعمال خود برسند. |
25 And the men of Shechem set persons to lie in wait for him on the tops of the mountains, and they robbed all that passed by them on that way: and it was told unto Abimelech.
| اهالی شکیم افرادی را بر قلهٔ کوهها گذاشتند تا در کمین ابیملک باشند. آنها هر کسی را از آنجا می‌گذشت، تاراج می‌کردند. اما ابیملک از این توطئه باخبر شد. |
26 And there came Ga'al the son of 'Ebed with his brothers, and passed through Shechem: and the men of Shechem put their confidence in him.
| در این هنگام جَعَل پسر عابد با برادرانش به شکیم کوچ کرد و اعتماد اهالی شهر را به خود جلب نمود. |
27 And they went out into the field, and gathered their vineyards, and trod [the grapes], and made joyful feasts, and went into the house of their god, and ate and drank, and cursed Abimelech.
| در عید برداشت محصول که در بتکدهٔ شکیم بر پا شده بود مردم شراب زیادی نوشیدند و به ابیملک ناسزا گفتند. |
28 And Ga'al the son of 'Ebed said, Who is Abimelech, and who is Shechem, that we should serve him? is not he the son of Yerubba'al? and Zebul his superintendent? serve the men of Chamor the father of Shechem; for why indeed should we serve him?
| سپس جَعَل به مردم گفت: «ابیملک کیست که بر ما پادشاهی کند؟ چرا ما باید خدمتگزار پسر جدعون و دستیارش زبول باشیم؟ ما باید به جد خود حامور وفادار بمانیم. |
29 And O that some one would put this people into my power! and I would remove Abimelech. And he let it be said to Abimelech, Increase thy army, and come out.
| اگر من پادشاه شما بودم شما را از شر ابیملک خلاص می‌کردم. به او می‌گفتم که لشکر خود را جمع کرده، به جنگ من بیاید.» |
30 And when Zebul the ruler of the city heard the words of Ga'al the son of 'Ebed, his anger was kindled.
| وقتی زبول، حاکم شهر، شنید که جَعَل چه می‌گوید بسیار خشمگین شد. |
31 And he sent messengers unto Abimelech privately, saying, Behold, Ga'al the son of 'Ebed and his brothers are come to Shechem; and, behold, they incite the city to enmity against thee.
| پس قاصدانی به ارومه نزد ابیملک فرستاده، گفت: «جَعَل پسر عابد و برادرانش آمده، در شکیم زندگی می‌کنند و مردم شهر را بر ضد تو تحریک می‌نمایند. |
32 And now rise up by night, thou and the people that are with thee, and lie in wait in the field:
| پس شبانه لشکری با خود برداشته، بیا و در صحرا کمین کن. |
33 And it shall be, in the morning, the moment the sun shineth, that thou shalt rise early, and set upon the city; and, behold, when he and the people that are with him come out against thee, then mayest thou do to him as thy means may let thee.
| صبحگاهان، همین که هوا روشن شد به شهر حمله کن. وقتی که او و همراهانش برای جنگ با تو بیرون آیند، آنچه خواهی با ایشان بکن.» |
34 And Abimelech rose up, and all the people that were with him, by night, and they lay in wait against Shechem in four companies.
| ابیملک و دار و دسته‌اش شبانه عازم شکیم شده، به چهار دسته تقسیم شدند و در اطراف شهر کمین کردند. |
35 And Ga'al the son of 'Ebed went out, and stood in the entrance of the city-gate: and Abimelech rose up, and the people that were with him, from the ambush.
| آنها جَعَل را دیدند که به طرف دروازهٔ شهر آمده، در آنجا ایستاد. پس، از کمینگاه خود خارج شدند. |
36 And when Ga'al saw the people, he said to Zebul, Behold, people are coming down from the tops of the mountains. And Zebul said unto him, Thou regardest the shadow of the mountains as men.
| وقتی جَعَل آنها را دید به زبول گفت: «نگاه کن، مثل اینکه عده‌ای از کوه سرازیر شده، به طرف ما می‌آیند!» زبول در جواب گفت: «نه، این که تو می‌بینی سایهٔ کوههاست.» |
37 And Ga'al spoke again and said, See people are coming down from the highest point of the land, and one company is coming along by the way of the grove of Me'onenim.
| پس از مدتی جَعَل دوباره گفت: «نگاه کن! عده‌ای از دامنهٔ کوه به طرف ما می‌آیند. نگاه کن! گروهی دیگر از راه بلوط معونیم می‌آیند!» |
38 Then said Zebul unto him, Where is now thy mouth, wherewith thou saidst, Who is Abimelech, that we should serve him! is not this the people that thou hast despised? go out now, I pray, and fight with them.
| آنگاه زبول رو به وی نموده، گفت: «حال آن زبانت کجاست که می‌گفت ابیملک کیست که بر ما پادشاهی کند؟ اکنون آنانی را که ناسزا می‌گفتی در بیرون شهر هستند؛ برو و با آنها بجنگ!» |
39 And Ga'al went out before the men of Shechem, and fought with Abimelech.
| جَعَل مردان شکیم را به جنگ ابیملک برد، |
40 And Abimelech pursued him, and he fled before him, and many fell slain, even as far as the entrance of the gate.
| ولی ابیملک او را شکست داد و عدهٔ زیادی از اهالی شکیم زخمی شدند و در هر طرف تا نزدیک دروازهٔ شهر به زمین افتادند. |
41 And Abimelech remained at Arumah: and Zebul banished Ga'al and his brothers, that they should not remain in Shechem.
| ابیملک به ارومه برگشت و در آنجا ماند و زبول، جَعَل و برادرانش را از شکیم بیرون راند و دیگر نگذاشت در آن شهر بمانند. |
42 And it came to pass on the morrow, that the people went out into the field; and it was told to Abimelech.
| روز بعد، مردان شکیم تصمیم گرفتند به صحرا بروند. خبر توطئهٔ ایشان به گوش ابیملک رسید. |
43 And he took the people, and divided them into three companies, and lay in wait in the field; and as he saw, and, behold, that the people were coming forth out of the city, he rose up against them, and smote them.
| او مردان خود را به سه دسته تقسیم کرد و در صحرا در کمین نشست. وقتی که اهالی شکیم از شهر خارج می‌شدند، ابیملک و همراهانش از کمینگاه بیرون آمدند و به ایشان حمله کردند. |
44 And Abimelech, and the companies that were with him, spread forward, and took position in the entrance of the city-gate: and the two other companies spread over all that were in the fields, and smote them.
| ابیملک و همراهانش به دروازهٔ شهر هجوم بردند و دو دستهٔ دیگر به مردان شکیم که در صحرا بودند حمله‌ور شده، آنها را شکست دادند. |
45 And Ahimelech fought against the city all that day; and he captured the city, and the people that were therein he slew; and he beat down the city, and sowed it with salt.
| جنگ تمام روز ادامه داشت تا اینکه بالاخره ابیملک شهر را تصرف کرد و اهالی آنجا را کشت و شهر را با خاک یکسان کرد. |
46 And when all the men of the tower of Shechem heard this, they entered into the stronghold of the house of the god Berith.
| ساکنان برج شکیم وقتی از این واقعه باخبر شدند از ترس به قلعهٔ بت بعل‌بریت پناه بردند. |
47 And it was told unto Abimelech, that all the men of the tower of Shechem were gathered together.
| وقتی که ابیملک از این موضوع باخبر شد، با نیروهای خود به کوه صلمون آمد. در آنجا تبری به دست گرفته، شاخه‌هایی از درختان را برید و آنها را بر دوش خود نهاد و به همراهانش نیز دستور داد که آنها هم فوراً چنین کنند. |
48 And Abimelech went thereupon up to mount Zalmon, he and all the people that were with him; and Abimelech took an axe in his hand, and cut down a bough from a tree, and bore it, and laid it on his shoulder; and he said unto the people that were with him, What ye have seen that I have done, make haste, and do like me.
49 And all the people also cut down every man his bough, and followed Abimelech, and put the same to the stronghold, and set the stronghold over them on fire: and thus died also all the people of the tower of Shechem, about a thousand men and women.
| پس هر یک هیزمی تهیه کرده، بر دوش نهادند و به دنبال ابیملک روانه شدند. آنها هیزمها را به پای دیوار قلعه روی هم انباشته، آتش زدند. در نتیجه همهٔ مردان و زنانی که تعدادشان قریب به هزار نفر بود و به آن قلعه پناه برده بودند جان سپردند. |
50 And Abimelech went then to Thebez, and encamped against Thebez, and captured it.
| سپس ابیملک به شهر تاباص حمله کرد و آن را تسخیر نمود. |
51 But there was a strong tower within the city, and thither fled all the men and the women, and all the chief persons of the city, and shut the doors behind them, and went up to the roof of the tower.
| در داخل شهر قلعه‌ای محکم وجود داشت که تمام اهالی شهر به آنجا گریختند. آنها درهای آن را محکم بستند و به پشت بام رفتند. |
52 And Abimelech came up to the tower, and fought against it, and approached as far as the door of the tower to burn it with fire.
| اما در حالی که ابیملک آماده می‌شد تا آن را آتش بزند، |
53 But a certain woman cast a piece of an upper millstone upon Abimelech's head, and crushed his skull.
| زنی از پشت بام یک سنگ آسیاب دستی بر سر ابیملک انداخت و کاسهٔ سرش را شکست. |
54 Then called he hastily unto the young man that bore his armor, and said unto him, Draw thy sword, and slay me, that people may not say of me, A woman hath slain him. And his young man thrust him through, and he died.
| ابیملک فوراً به جوانی که اسلحهٔ او را حمل می‌کرد دستور داده، گفت: «شمشیرت را بکش و مرا بکش مبادا بگویند که ابیملک به دست زنی کشته شد!» پس آن جوان شمشیر خود را به شکم وی فرو برد و او بلافاصله جان سپرد. |
55 And when the men of Israel saw that Abimelech was dead, they departed every man to his place.
| اسرائیلی‌ها چون دیدند که او مرده است به خانه‌های خود بازگشتند. |
56 Thus did God compensate the evil of Abimelech, which he had done unto his father, in slaying his seventy brothers:
| بدین طریق خدا ابیملک و مردان شکیم را به سبب گناه کشتن هفتاد پسر جدعون مجازات نمود و آنها به نفرین یوتام پسر جدعون گرفتار شدند. |
57 And all the evil of the men of Shechem did God bring back upon their own head; and there came upon them the curse of Yotham the son of Yerubba'al.
