Judges 8
1 And the men of Ephraim said unto him, What is this thing that thou hast done unto us, not to call for us, when thou wentest to fight with the Midianites? And they quarrelled with him vehemently.
Los hombres de Efraín le dijeron: “¿Por qué nos has tratado así, que no nos llamaste cuando fuiste a pelear con Madián?”. Lo reprendieron duramente.
2 And he said unto them, What have I done now in comparison with you? Is not the gleaning of Ephraim better than the vintage of Abi'ezer?
Él les dijo: “¿Qué he hecho yo ahora en comparación con ustedes? ¿No es mejor la recolección de las uvas de Efraín que la cosecha de Abiezer?
3 Into your hand God delivered the princes of Midian, 'Oreb and Zeeb: and what have I been able to do in comparison with you? Then was their anger abated from him, when he had spoken this speech.
¡Dios ha entregado en tu mano a los príncipes de Madián, Oreb y Zeeb! ¿Qué he podido hacer yo en comparación con vosotros?”. Entonces se aplacó su ira contra él cuando hubo dicho eso.
4 And Gid'on came to the Jordan, and passed over, he, and the three hundred men that were with him, faint, and in pursuit.
Gedeón llegó al Jordán y lo cruzó, él y los trescientos hombres que lo acompañaban, desfallecidos, pero persiguiendo.
5 And he said unto the men of Succoth, Give, I pray you, a few loaves of bread unto the people that are in my train; for they are faint, and I am pursuing after Zebach and Zalmunna,' the kings of Midian.
Dijo a los hombres de Sucot: “Por favor, den panes a la gente que me sigue, porque están cansados, y yo persigo a Zeba y Zalmunna, los reyes de Madián.”
6 And the princes of Succoth said, Is the sole of the foot of Zebach and Zalmunna' now already in thy hand, that we should give unto thy army bread?
Los príncipes de Succoth dijeron: “¿Están ahora las manos de Zeba y Zalmunna en tu mano, para que demos pan a tu ejército?”.
7 And Gid'on said, Therefore when the Lord hath delivered Zebach and Zalmunna' into my hand, then will I thresh your flesh with the thorns of the wilderness and with briers.
Gedeón dijo: “Por lo tanto, cuando Yahvé haya entregado a Zeba y Zalmunna en mi mano, entonces desgarraré su carne con las espinas del desierto y con los cardos.”
8 And he went up thence to Penuel, and spoke unto them in the same manner: and the men of Penuel answered him as the men of Succoth had answered.
Subió allí a Penuel y les habló de la misma manera; y los hombres de Penuel le respondieron como habían respondido los de Sucot.
9 And he said also unto the men of Penuel thus, When I return again in peace, I will break down this tower.
También habló a los hombres de Penuel, diciendo: “Cuando vuelva en paz, derribaré esta torre”.
10 Now Zebach and Zalmunna' were in Karkor, and their camps with them, about fifteen thousand men, all that had been left of all the camp of the children of the east; but those who had fallen were one hundred and twenty thousand men that drew the sword.
Zeba y Zalmunna estaban en Karkor, y sus ejércitos con ellos, unos quince mil hombres, todos los que quedaban de todo el ejército de los hijos del oriente; pues cayeron ciento veinte mil hombres que sacaban espada.
11 And Gid'on went up by the way of those that dwelt in tents, to the east of Nobach and Yogbehah, and smote the camp; but the camp thought itself secure.
Gedeón subió por el camino de los que vivían en tiendas al oriente de Noba y Jogbehá, y atacó al ejército, pues éste se sentía seguro.
12 And Zebach and Zalmunna' fled; but he pursued after them, and captured the two kings of Midian, Zebach and Zalmunna', and all the camp he discomfited.
Zeba y Zalmunna huyeron y él los persiguió. Tomó a los dos reyes de Madián, Zeba y Zalmunna, y confundió a todo el ejército.
13 And Gid'on the son of Joash returned from the battle before the rising of the sun,
Gedeón, hijo de Joás, regresó de la batalla desde la subida de Heres.
14 And he caught a young man of the people of Succoth, and inquired of him: and he wrote down for him the princes of Succoth, and the elders thereof, seventy and seven men.
Atrapó a un joven de los hombres de Sucot y lo interrogó, y le describió a los príncipes de Sucot y a sus ancianos, setenta y siete hombres.
15 And he came unto the men of Succoth, and said, Behold here are Zebach and Zalmunna', with whom ye derided me, saying, Is the sole of the foot of Zebach and Zalmunna' now already in thy hand, that we should give unto thy weary men bread?
Se acercó a los hombres de Sucot y les dijo: “Vean a Zeba y a Zalmunna, de quienes se burlaron diciendo: “¿Están ahora las manos de Zeba y Zalmunna en tu mano, para que demos pan a tus hombres que están cansados?””
16 And he took the elders of the city, and the thorns of the wilderness and briers, and chastised with them the men of Succoth.
Tomó a los ancianos de la ciudad, y espinas del desierto y zarzas, y con ellas enseñó a los hombres de Sucot.
17 And the tower of Penuel he beat down, and slew the men of the city.
Derribó la torre de Penuel y mató a los hombres de la ciudad.
18 And he said unto Zebach and Zalmunna', What kind of men were those whom ye slew at Tabor! And they answered, As thou art, so were they; one was in form like that of the children of a king.
Entonces dijo a Zeba y a Zalmunna: “¿Qué clase de hombres eran los que matasteis en el Tabor?” Ellos respondieron: “Eran como tú. Todos se parecían a los hijos de un rey”.
19 And he said, They were my brothers, the sons of my mother; as the Lord liveth, if ye had spared them alive, I would not slay you.
Él dijo: “Eran mis hermanos, los hijos de mi madre. Vive Yahvé, si los hubieras salvado con vida, no te mataría”.
20 And he said unto Yether his first-born, Rise up, and slay them. But the youth drew not his sword; for he was afraid, because he was yet a youth.
Le dijo a Jether, su primogénito: “¡Levántate y mátalos!” Pero el joven no desenfundó su espada, pues tenía miedo, ya que era todavía un joven.
21 Then said Zebach and Zalmunna', Rise thou, and fall upon us; for as the man is, so is his strength. And Gid'on arose, and slew Zebach and Zalmunna'; and he took away the crescent ornaments that were on the necks of their camels.
Entonces Zeba y Zalmunna dijeron: “Levántense y caigan sobre nosotros, porque como el hombre es, así es su fuerza”. Gedeón se levantó y mató a Zeba y a Zalmunna, y tomó las medias lunas que estaban en el cuello de sus camellos.
22 And the men of Israel said unto Gid'on, Rule thou over us, both thou and thy son, and thy son's son also; for thou hast delivered us out of the hand of Midian.
Entonces los hombres de Israel dijeron a Gedeón: “Gobierna sobre nosotros, tú, tu hijo y el hijo de tu hijo también, porque nos has salvado de la mano de Madián.”
23 And Gid'on said unto them, I will not rule over you, neither shall my son rule over you: the Lord shall rule over you.
Gedeón les dijo: “Yo no gobernaré sobre ustedes, ni mi hijo lo hará. Yahvé gobernará sobre ustedes”.
24 And Gid'on said unto them, I would ask one request of you, that ye should give me every man the earring of his booty; for they had had golden earrings, because they were Ishmaelites.
Gedeón les dijo: “Tengo una petición: que cada uno me dé los aretes de su botín.” (Porque tenían aretes de oro, porque eran ismaelitas).
25 And they answered, We will willingly give. And they spread out a garment, and they cast therein every man the earring of his booty.
Ellos respondieron: “Los daremos de buena gana”. Extendieron un manto, y cada uno echó en él los pendientes de su botín.
26 And the weight of the golden earrings that he had requested was a thousand and seven hundred shekels of gold; besides the crescent ornaments, and ear-drops, and purple garments that were on the kings of Midian, and besides the chains that were about their camels' necks.
El peso de los aretes de oro que pidió fue de mil setecientos siclos de oro, además de las medias lunas, los colgantes y la ropa de púrpura que llevaban los reyes de Madián, y además de las cadenas que llevaban al cuello de sus camellos.
27 And Gid'on made thereof an ephod, and set it up in his city, in 'Ophrah: and all Israel went astray after it thither; and it became a snare unto Gid'on, and to his house.
Gedeón hizo un efod con él y lo puso en Ofra, su ciudad. Entonces todo Israel se prostituyó con él allí, y se convirtió en una trampa para Gedeón y para su casa.
28 And Midian was humbled before the children of Israel, so that they lifted not up their head any more. And the country was quiet forty years in the days of Gid'on.
Así fue sometido Madián ante los hijos de Israel, y no volvieron a levantar la cabeza. La tierra tuvo un descanso de cuarenta años en los días de Gedeón.
29 And Yerubba'al the son of Joash went and dwelt in his own house.
Jerobaal, hijo de Joás, se fue a vivir a su casa.
30 And Gid'on had seventy sons begotten of his body; for he had many wives.
Gedeón tuvo setenta hijos concebidos de su cuerpo, pues tenía muchas mujeres.
31 And his concubine that was in Shechem, she also bore him a son, and he gave him the name, Abimelech.
Su concubina que estaba en Siquem también le dio a luz un hijo, y le puso el nombre de Abimelec.
32 And Gid'on the son of Joash died in a good old age, and was buried in the sepulchre of Joash his father, in 'Ophrah of the Abi'ezrites.
Gedeón, hijo de Joás, murió en buena edad y fue enterrado en la tumba de su padre Joás, en Ofra de los abiezritas.
33 And it came to pass, when Gid'on was dead, that the children of Israel turned again, and went astray after the Be'alim, and made themselves Ba'al-berith for a god.
Tan pronto como murió Gedeón, los hijos de Israel volvieron a prostituirse siguiendo a los baales, e hicieron de Baal Berit su dios.
34 And the children of Israel remembered not the Lord their God, who delivered them out of the hand of all their enemies on every side.
Los hijos de Israel no se acordaron de Yahvé, su Dios, que los había librado de la mano de todos sus enemigos de todas partes;
35 Neither showed they kindness to the house of Yerubba'al, namely, Gid'on, in accordance with all the good which he had done unto Israel.
tampoco mostraron bondad a la casa de Jerobaal, es decir, a Gedeón, conforme a toda la bondad que había mostrado a Israel.
