Judges 4
1 And the children of Israel again did the evil in the eyes of the Lord, when Ehud was dead.
Et les enfants d'Israël recommencèrent à faire ce qui déplaît à l'Éternel; or Ehud était mort.
2 And the Lord sold them into the hand of Yabin the king of Canaan, that reigned in Chazor; and the captain of his army was Sissera, who dwelt in Charosheth-hagoyim.
Alors l'Éternel les vendit entre les mains de Jabin, roi de Canaan, qui régnait à Hatsor, et son chef d'armée était Sisera, lequel demeurait à Haroseth-Gojim.
3 And the children of Israel cried unto the Lord; for he had nine hundred chariots of iron; and he oppressed the children of Israel with might twenty years.
Et les enfants d'Israël crièrent vers l'Éternel, car il avait neuf cents chars ferrés, et il opprima fortement les enfants d'Israël durant vingt ans.
4 And Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lapidoth, —she judged Israel at that time.
Or c'était Debora, femme prophète, mariée à Lappidoth, qui à cette époque était juge en Israël.
5 And she held her sitting under the palm-tree of Deborah between Ramah and Beth-el on the mountain of Ephraim: and the children of Israel came up to her for judgment.
Et elle siégeait sous le Palmier de Debora entre Rama et Béthel dans la montagne d'Ephraïm. Et les enfants d'Israël montaient auprès d'elle pour obtenir jugement.
6 And she sent and called Barak the son of Abino'am out of Kedesh-naphtali; and she said unto him, Behold, the Lord the God of Israel hath commanded, Go and lead on toward mount Tabor, and take with thee ten thousand men of the children of Naphtali and of the children of Zebulun.
Alors elle envoya mander Barak, fils d'Abinoam, de Kédès-Nephthali; et elle lui dit: Voici, l'Éternel, Dieu d'Israël, l'ordonne; va occuper le mont Thabor, prenant avec toi dix mille hommes parmi les enfants de Nephthali et les enfants de Zabulon,
7 And I will draw unto thee, to the brook Kishon, Sissera, the captain of Yabin's army, and his chariots and his multitude; and I will give him up into thy hand.
et j'attirerai vers toi au torrent du Kison, Sisera, chef d'armée de Jabin, et ses chars et sa troupe et je le livrerai entre tes mains.
8 And Barak said unto her, If thou wilt go with me, then will I go; but if thou wilt not go with me, I will not go.
Et Barak lui dit: Si tu marches avec moi, je marcherai; mais si tu ne marches pas avec moi, je ne marcherai pas.
9 And she said, I will indeed go with thee; nevertheless it will not be for thy honor, on the way which thou goest; for into the hand of a woman will the Lord deliver Sissera; and Deborah arose, and went with Barak to Kedesh.
Et elle dit: Oui, je veux marcher avec toi; seulement tu ne rencontreras pas ta gloire sur la voie que tu prends, car c'est à la main d'une femme que l'Éternel livrera Sisera. Puis Debora se leva et se rendit avec Barak à Kédès.
10 And Barak called Zebulun and Naphtali together to Kedesh; and there went up in his train ten thousand men; also Deborah went up with him.
Alors Barak cita Zabulon et Nephthali à Kédès, et dix mille hommes marchèrent sous sa conduite, et Debora l'accompagna.
11 Now Cheber the Kenite had severed himself from the Kenites, from the children of Chobab the father-in-law of Moses; and he had pitched his tent as far as Elon-beza'anannim, which is near Kedesh.
(Or Héber, le Kénite, s'était séparé des Kénites, des fils de Hobab, beau-père de Moïse, et il dressa ses tentes jusqu'aux chênes de Tsaannaïm, situé près de Kédès.)
12 And they told Sissera that Barak the son of Abino'am was gone up to mount Tabor.
Et Sisera fut informé que Barak, fils d'Abinoam, s'était porté au mont Thabor.
13 And Sissera called together all his chariots, nine hundred chariots of iron, and all the people that were with him, from Charosheth-hagoyim unto the brook Kishon.
Alors de Haroseth-Gojim Sisera rassembla vers le torrent du Kison tous ses chars, neuf cents chars ferrés et toute la troupe qui était sous ses ordres.
14 And Deborah said unto Barak, Up! for this is the day on which the Lord hath given Sissera into thy hand; behold, the Lord is gone out before thee: so Barak went down from mount Tabor, with ten thousand men after him.
Alors Debora dit à Barak: Debout! car, voici la journée où l'Éternel livre Sisera entre tes mains! L'Éternel n'ouvre-t-Il pas la marche devant toi? Et Barak descendit du mont Thabor suivi de dix mille hommes.
15 And the Lord confounded Sissera, and all his chariots, and all his army, with the edge of the sword before Barak; and Sissera alighted from his chariot, and fled away on foot.
Alors l'Éternel mit en déroute Sisera et tous ses chars et toute son armée à la pointe de l'épée devant Barak, et Sisera descendit de son char et s'enfuit à pied.
16 And Barak pursued after the chariots, and after the army, unto Charosheth-hagoyim: and all the army of Sissera fell by the edge of the sword; there was not left even one.
Cependant Barak poursuivit les chars et l'armée jusqu'à Haroseth-Gojim. Et toute l'armée de Sisera tomba sous le tranchant de l'épée; pas un ne survécut.
17 But Sissera had fled away on foot to the tent of Ja'el the wife of Cheber the Kenite; for there was peace between Yabin the king of Chazor and the house of Cheber the Kenite.
Quant à Sisera, il se réfugia à pied dans la tente de Jaël, femme de Héber, le Kénite. Car il y avait paix entre Jabin, roi de Hatsor, et la maison de Héber, le Kénite.
18 And Ja'el went out to meet Sissera, and said unto him, Turn in, my lord, turn in unto me, fear not: and he turned in unto her into the tent, and she covered him with a blanket.
Alors Jaël sortit au-devant de Sisera et lui dit: Entre, mon Seigneur, entre chez moi! sois sans crainte! Et il entra chez elle dans la tente, et elle le couvrit d'un tapis.
19 And he said unto her, Give me to drink, I pray thee, a little water; for I am thirsty: and she opened a bottle of milk, and gave him to drink, and covered him up.
Et il lui dit: Donne-moi donc un peu d'eau à boire, car j'ai soif. Et elle ouvrit l'outre du lait, et le fit boire et le couvrit.
20 And he said unto her, Stand at the door of the tent; and it shall be, that, when any man should come and ask of thee, and say, Is there any man here? thou shalt say, No.
Et il lui dit: Tiens-toi à l'entrée de la tente, et dans le cas où un homme viendrait et te questionnerait en disant: Y a-t-il quelqu'un ici? réponds: Personne.
21 And Ja'el the wife of Cheber took thereupon the nail of the tent, and placed a hammer in her hand, and went softly unto him, and struck the nail into his temple, and it became fastened in the ground; but he was fast asleep and weary; so he died.
Alors Jaël, femme de Héber, prit l'épieu de la tente, et arma sa main du marteau et pénétra doucement vers lui et lui enfonça dans la tempe l'épieu qui se ficha dans le sol. Or il était profondément endormi et exténué, et il mourut.
22 And, behold, Barak came in pursuit of Sissera, and Ja'el came out to meet him, and said unto him, Come, and I will show thee the man whom thou art seeking: and he came to her, and behold, Sissera was lying dead, with the nail in his temple.
Et voici, Barak était à la poursuite de Sisera, et Jaël sortit à sa rencontre et lui dit: Viens! je vais te montrer l'homme que tu cherches. Et il entra chez elle, et voilà que Sisera était étendu mort, l'épieu dans la tempe.
23 So did God humble on that day Yabin the king of Canaan before the children of Israel.
C'est ainsi que ce jour Dieu fit fléchir Jabin, roi de Canaan, devant les enfants d'Israël.
24 And the hand of the children of Israel became constantly heavier upon Yabin the king of Canaan, until they had destroyed Yabin the king of Canaan.
Et la main des enfants d'Israël s'appesantit de plus en plus sur Jabin, roi de Canaan, jusqu'à ce qu'ils eussent extirpé Jabin, roi de Canaan.
