Joshua 7
1 But the children of Israel committed a trespass on the devoted things; for 'Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerach, of the tribe of Judah, took of the devoted things: and the anger of the Lord was kindled against the children of Israel.
૧પણ ઇઝરાયલના લોકો શાપિત વસ્તુ વિષે અપરાધ કરીને તે પ્રત્યે અવિશ્વાસુ સાબિત થયા. કેમ કે યહૂદાના કુળના ઝેરાહના પુત્ર ઝાબ્દીના પુત્ર કાર્મીના પુત્ર આખાને શાપિત વસ્તુઓમાંથી કેટલીક લઈ લીધી. તેથી યહોવાહનો કોપ ઇઝરાયલના લોકો પર સળગી ઊઠ્યો.
2 And Joshua sent men from Jericho to 'Ai, which is beside Beth-aven, on the east side of Beth-el, and said unto them, thus, Go up and spy out the country. And the men went up and spied out 'Ai.
૨બેથ-આવેન પાસે, બેથેલની પૂર્વ તરફ આય નગર છે, ત્યાં યહોશુઆએ યરીખોથી માણસોને મોકલ્યા અને તેણે તેઓને કહ્યું કે, “તમે જઈને તે દેશની જાસૂસી કરો.” તેથી માણસોએ જઈને આયની જાસૂસી કરી.
3 And they returned to Joshua, and said unto him, Let not all the people go up; but let about two or three thousand men go up and smite 'Ai: do not fatigue all the people [to go] thither; for they are but few.
૩તેઓ યહોશુઆ પાસે પાછા આવ્યા અને તેઓએ તેને કહ્યું કે, “સર્વ લોકોને આયમાં મોકલવા નહિ. માત્ર બે કે ત્રણ હજાર પુરુષોને મોકલ કે તેઓ જઈને આય પર હુમલો કરે. બધા લોકોને લડાઈમાં જવાની તકલીફ આપીશ નહિ. કારણ કે તેઓ સંખ્યામાં બહુ ઓછા છે.”
4 So there went up thither of the people about three thousand men; and they fled before the men of 'Ai.
૪માટે લોકોમાંથી લગભગ ત્રણ હજાર પુરુષો ગયા, પણ આયના માણસોએ તેઓને નસાડ્યા.
5 And the men of 'Ai smote of them about thirty and six men; and they chased them from before the gate unto the stone-quarries, and smote them on the declivity [of the hill]; wherefore the heart of the people melted, and became as water.
૫અને આયના માણસોએ તેઓમાંથી આશરે છત્રીસ માણસોને માર્યા, ભાગળ આગળથી શબારીમ સુધી તેઓની પાછળ દોડીને પર્વત ઊતરવાની જગ્યા આગળ તેઓને માર્યા. તેથી લોકોનાં હૃદય ભયભીત થયાં અને તેઓ નાહિંમત થયા.
6 And Joshua rent his clothes, and fell upon his face to the earth before the ark of the Lord until the evening, he with the elders of Israel, and they put dust upon their head.
૬પછી યહોશુઆએ પોતાનાં વસ્ત્ર ફાડયાં, તેણે અને ઇઝરાયલના વડીલોએ પોતાના માથા પર ધૂળ નાખી અને સાંજ સુધી તેઓ યહોવાહનાં કોશ આગળ, ભૂમિ પર પડી રહ્યાં.
7 And Joshua said, Alas, O Lord Eternal, wherefore hast thou caused this people to pass over the Jordan, to deliver us into the hand of the Emorites, to destroy us? and oh! that we had been content, and dwelt on the other side of the Jordan!
૭ત્યારે યહોશુઆ બોલ્યો, ‘અરે! હે પ્રભુ યહોવાહ, અમને અમોરીઓના હાથમાં સોંપીને અમારો નાશ કરવા સારુ તમે આ લોકોને યર્દન પાર કેમ લાવ્યા? અમે યર્દનની પેલે પાર રહેવાનો નિર્ણય કર્યો હોત તો કેવું સારું!
8 I pray thee, O Lord, what shall I say, since Israel have turned their back before their enemies!
૮હે પ્રભુ, ઇઝરાયલે પોતાના શત્રુ સામે પીઠ ફેરવી દીધી છે, હવે હું શું બોલું?
9 And when the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land will hear of it, they will environ us round, and cut off our name from the earth; and what wilt thou do for thy great name?
૯માટે કનાનીઓ અને દેશના સર્વ રહેવાસીઓ તે વિષે સાંભળશે. તેઓ અમને ચારેબાજુથી ઘેરી લેશે અને પૃથ્વી પરથી અમારો નાશ થશે. પછી તમે તમારા મહાન નામ વિષે શું કરશો?”
10 And the Lord said unto Joshua, Get thee up; wherefore liest thou upon thy face.
૧૦યહોવાહે યહોશુઆને કહ્યું કે, ઊઠ! એમ શા માટે નીચે પડી રહ્યો છે?
11 Israel hath sinned, and they have also transgressed my covenant which I have commanded them; and they have also taken of the devoted things, and have also stolen, and have also dissembled, and they have also put it into their own vessels.
૧૧ઇઝરાયલે પાપ કર્યું છે. તેઓએ જે કરાર મેં તેઓને ફરમાવ્યો હતો તેનું ઉલ્લંઘન કર્યું છે. શાપિત વસ્તુમાંથી કેટલીક લઈ પણ લીધી છે અને ચોરી તથા બંડ પણ કર્યું છે. વળી પોતાના સામાનની મધ્યે તેઓએ તે સંતાડ્યું છે.
12 Therefore will the children of Israel not be able to stand up before their enemies; their back will they turn before their enemies, because they have become accursed: I will not be any more with you, except ye destroy the accursed from among you.
૧૨એ કારણથી, ઇઝરાયલના લોકો પોતાના શત્રુઓ આગળ ટકી શક્યા નહી, તેઓએ પોતાના શત્રુઓ સામે પીઠ ફેરવી છે, તેથી તેઓ શાપિત થયા છે. જે શાપિત વસ્તુ હજુ સુધી તમારી પાસે છે, તેનો જો તમે નાશ નહિ કરો તો હું તમારી સાથે કદી રહીશ નહી.
13 Rise up, sanctify the people, and say, Sanctify yourselves against tomorrow; for thus hath said the Lord the God of Israel, An accursed thing is in the midst of thee, O Israel: thou shalt not be able to stand up before thy enemies, until ye have removed the accursed from among you.
૧૩ઊઠ! લોકોને શુદ્ધ કર અને કહે, આવતીકાલને માટે તમે પોતાને શુદ્ધ કરો. કારણ કે ઇઝરાયલનો પ્રભુ યહોવાહ કહે છે, હે ઇઝરાયલ, તારી મધ્યે એક શાપિત વસ્તુ કાઢી નહિ નાખે, ત્યાં સુધી તું તારા શત્રુ આગળ ટકી શકનાર નથી.
14 And ye shall be brought near in the morning according to your tribes: and it shall be, that the tribe which the Lord will seize shall come near according to its families; and the family which the Lord will seize shall come near by households; and the household which the Lord shall seize will come near by its men.
૧૪તેથી સવારમાં, પોતપોતાનાં કુળ પ્રમાણે તમે પોતાને રજૂ કરો. પછી એમ થશે કે, જે કુળને યહોવાહ ચિઠ્ઠીથી પકડે, તે કુટુંબવાર આગળ આવે. તેમાંથી યહોવાહ જે કુટુંબને પકડે તેનું પ્રત્યેક ઘર આગળ આવે. જે ઘરનાંને યહોવાહ પકડે તે ઘરનાં પુરુષો એક પછી એક આગળ આવે.
15 And it shall be, that he that is seized with the accursed thing shall be burnt with fire, he, and all that he hath; because he hath transgressed the covenant of the Lord, and because he hath wrought wickedness in Israel.
૧૫એમ થાય કે જે વસ્તુ શાપિત છે તે જેની પાસેથી પકડાશે તે પુરુષને તથા તેના સર્વસ્વને બાળી નાંખવામાં આવશે. કારણ કે તેણે યહોવાહનો કરાર તોડયો છે અને ઇઝરાયલમાં શરમજનક મૂર્ખાઈ કરી છે.’”
16 So Joshua rose up early in the morning, and brought Israel near by their tribes, and the tribe of Judah was seized;
૧૬અને સવારે વહેલા ઊઠીને યહોશુઆએ ઇઝરાયલને, તેઓના કુળ પ્રમાણે ક્રમવાર રજૂ કર્યા ત્યારે યહૂદાનું કુળ પકડાયું.
17 And he brought near the family of Judah, and he seized the family of the Zarchites; and he brought near the family of the Zarchites by its men, and Zabdi was seized;
૧૭તે યહૂદાના કુળને આગળ લાવ્યો, તેમાંથી ઝેરાહીઓનું કુટુંબ પકડાયું. પછી તે ઝેરાહીઓનાં કુટુંબમાંથી એક પછી એક વ્યક્તિને આગળ લાવ્યો ત્યારે તેમાંથી ઝાબ્દી પકડાયો.
18 And he brought near his household by its men, and 'Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerach, of the tribe of Judah, was seized.
૧૮તેના ઘરનાં પુરુષોને ક્રમવાર આગળ બોલાવાયા ત્યારે યહૂદાના કુળમાંથી ઝેરાહના પુત્ર, ઝાબ્દીના પુત્ર કાર્મીનો પુત્ર આખાન પકડાયો.
19 And Joshua said unto 'Achan, My son, give, I pray thee, glory to the Lord, the God of Israel, and make confession unto him; and tell me, I pray thee, what thou hast done: hide nothing from me.
૧૯ત્યારે યહોશુઆએ આખાનને કહ્યું, “મારા દીકરા, ઇઝરાયલના પ્રભુ યહોવાહની આગળ સાચું બોલ અને તેમની સ્તુતિ કર. તેં જે કર્યું છે તે હવે મને કહે. મારાથી કશું છાનું રાખીશ નહી.”
20 And 'Achan answered Joshua, and said, Truly! I have indeed sinned against the Lord the God of Israel, and thus and thus have I done:
૨૦અને આખાને યહોશુઆને ઉત્તર આપ્યો, “ખરેખર, ઇઝરાયલના પ્રભુ, યહોવાહની વિરુદ્ધ મેં પાપ કર્યું છે. મેં જે કર્યું તે આ છે:
21 I saw among the spoil a handsome Babylonish mantle, and two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold of fifty shekels in weight, and I coveted them, and took them; and, behold, they are hidden in the earth in the midst of my tent, with the silver beneath the same.
૨૧લૂંટમાંથી એક સારો શિનઆરી જામો, 2 કિલો 300 ગ્રામ ચાંદી, 575 ગ્રામ વજનવાળું સોનાનું એક પાનું લેવાની લાલચ મને થઈ. આ બધું મેં મારા તંબુની મધ્યે જમીનમાં સંતાડેલું છે; ચાંદી સૌથી નીચે છુપાવી છે.”
22 Joshua thereupon sent messengers, and they ran unto the tent; and, behold, it was hidden in his tent, and the silver beneath it.
૨૨યહોશુઆએ સંદેશાવાહક મોકલ્યા, તેઓ તંબુએ ગયા. તેઓએ જોયું તો બધું તંબુમાં સંતાડાયેલું હતું અને ચાંદી સૌથી નીચે હતી.”
23 And they took them out of the midst of the tent, and brought them unto Joshua, and unto all the children of Israel, and they laid them out before the Lord.
૨૩અને તેઓ તંબુમાંથી એ બધી વસ્તુઓ યહોશુઆની તથા સર્વ ઇઝરાયલ લોકોની પાસે લાવ્યા. તેઓએ તે બધું યહોવાહની આગળ મૂક્યું.
24 And Joshua took 'Achan the son of Zerach, and the silver, and the mantle, and the wedge of gold, and his sons, and his daughters, and his ox, and his ass, and his sheep, and his tent, and all that he had, and all Israel were with him, and they brought them up unto the valley of 'Achor.
૨૪અને યહોશુઆ તથા સર્વ ઇઝરાયલ, ઝેરાહના પુત્ર આખાનને તથા ચાંદી, જામો, સોનાનું પાનું, આખાનના દીકરા અને દીકરીઓ, બળદો, ગધેડાં, ઘેટાં, તંબુ, અને તેના સર્વસ્વને, આખોરની ખીણમાં લઈ ગયા.
25 And Joshua said, How hast thou troubled us! so shall the Lord trouble thee this day. And all Israel stoned him with stones, and burnt them with fire, after they had stoned them with stones.
૨૫પછી યહોશુઆએ કહ્યું, “તેં અમને કેમ હેરાન કર્યા છે? આજે યહોવાહ તને હેરાન કરશે.” અને સર્વ ઇઝરાયલીઓએ તેને પથ્થરે માર્યો. તેઓએ બધાંને અગ્નિમાં બાળ્યાં અને પથ્થરથી માર્યાં.
26 And they raised over him a great heap of stones [which is] unto this day; and the Lord turned from the fierceness of his anger. Wherefore the name of that place was called, The valley of 'Achor, unto this day.
૨૬અને તેઓએ તેના પર પથ્થરનો મોટો ઢગલો કર્યો જે આજ સુધી છે. ત્યારે યહોવાહ પોતાના ક્રોધનો જુસ્સો શાંત કર્યો. તે માટે તે સ્થળનું નામ ‘આખોરની ખીણ’ એવું પડયું જે આજ સુધી છે.
