Joshua 4

1 And it came to pass, when all the people had finished passing over the Jordan, That the Lord said unto Joshua, as followeth,

जब सब इस्राएली वंशज यरदन के पार हो गए, तब याहवेह ने यहोशू से कहा,

2 Take yourselves twelve men out of the people, one man each out of every tribe,

“हर गोत्र से एक-एक व्यक्ति करके बारह व्यक्ति अलग करो,

3 And command ye them, saying, Take yourselves hence out of the midst of the Jordan, out of the place where the priests' feet stood firmly, twelve stones, and ye shall carry them over with you, and leave them in the lodging-place, where ye will lodge this night.

और उनसे कहो, ‘यरदन से बारह पत्थर, उस स्थान से उठाओ जहां पुरोहित खड़े थे. इन पत्थरों को अपने साथ ले जाओ और उन्हें उस स्थान पर रख देना, जहां तुम आज रात ठहरोगे.’”

4 Then did Joshua call the twelve men, whom he had appointed out of the children of Israel, one man each out of every tribe:

तब यहोशू ने इस्राएल के हर गोत्र से एक-एक व्यक्ति चुने और ऐसे बारह व्यक्तियों को अलग किया

5 And Joshua said unto them, Pass over before the ark of the Lord your God into the midst of the Jordan, and take yourselves up every man one stone upon his shoulder, according unto the number of the tribes of the children of Israel;

और उनसे कहा, “तुम्हारे परमेश्वर याहवेह की वाचा के संदूक के आगे यरदन के बीच में जाकर इस्राएल के गोत्रों की गिनती के अनुसार एक-एक पत्थर अपने कंधे पर रखे.

6 In order that this may be a sign among you, when your children ask in time to come, saying, What mean ye by these stones?

यह तुम्हारे लिए यादगार होगा. जब तुम्हारे बच्‍चे इन पत्थरों के बारे में पूछें,

7 That ye shall answer them, That the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord; when it passed over the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off; and these stones shall be for a memorial unto the children of Israel for ever.

तब तुम उन्हें बताना, ‘याहवेह की वाचा के संदूक के सामने यरदन का जल बहना रुक गया था; और जब इसे यरदन के पार ले जाया जा रहा था तब यरदन का जल दो भाग हो गया था.’ तो ये पत्थर हमेशा के लिए यादगार बन जाएंगे.”

8 And the children of Israel did so as Joshua had commanded; and they took up twelve stones out of the midst of the Jordan, as the Lord had spoken unto Joshua, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel; and they carried them over with them unto the place where they lodged, and laid them down there.

इस्राएल वंशजों ने वही किया, जैसा यहोशू ने उनसे कहा था. उन्होंने यरदन के बीच से बारह पत्थर उठा लिए; इस्राएल के गोत्रों की गिनती के अनुसार. उन्होंने वे पत्थर ले जाकर तंबू में रख दिए.

9 Twelve stones also did Joshua set up in the midst of the Jordan, on the spot where the feet of the priests who bore the ark of the covenant had stood: and they have remained there unto this day.

यहोशू ने भी बारह पत्थर यरदन के बीच उस जगह पर रखे, जहां पुरोहित वाचा का संदूक लिए खड़े थे, जो आज तक वहीं हैं.

10 But the priests who bore the ark stood in the midst of the Jordan, until every thing was finished that the Lord had commanded Joshua to speak unto the people, according to all that Moses had commanded Joshua; and the people hastened and passed over.

याहवेह द्वारा यहोशू को कहे अनुसार, संदूक लिए हुए पुरोहित यरदन के मध्य में तब तक खड़े रहे, जब तक सब लोगों ने नदी को पार न कर लिया. यह उस आदेश के अनुसार था, जो मोशेह द्वारा यहोशू को दिया गया था.

11 And it came to pass, when all the people had finished passing over, that the ark of the Lord passed over with the priests in the presence of the people.

जब सभी पार हो गए, तब याहवेह की वाचा के संदूक को लिए हुए पुरोहित सब लोगों के आगे चले.

12 And the children of Reuben, and the children of Gad, and the half tribe of Menasseh, passed over armed before the children of Israel, as Moses had spoken unto them:

मोशेह के कहे अनुसार रियूबेन, गाद तथा मनश्शेह का आधा गोत्र युद्ध के लिए हथियार लेकर इस्राएल वंशजों के आगे चला.

13 About forty thousand ready armed for war, did they pass over before the Lord unto battle, to the plains of Jericho.

इनकी संख्या लगभग चालीस हजार थी, जो युद्ध के लिए पूरे तैयार थे. याहवेह की उपस्थिति में ये युद्ध के लिए आगे बढ़े और येरीख़ो के पास मैदान में पहुंचे.

14 On that day the Lord made Joshua great in the eyes of all Israel; and they feared him, as they had feared Moses, all the days of his life.

यह वह दिन था, जब याहवेह ने यहोशू को इस्राएलियों के बीच आदर के साथ ऊपर उठाया. जिस प्रकार अपने जीवनकाल में मोशेह आदर के योग्य थे.

15 And the Lord said unto Joshua, as followeth,

याहवेह ने यहोशू से कहा,

16 Command the priests that bear the ark of the testimony, that they come up out of the Jordan.

“वाचा का संदूक उठानेवाले पुरोहितों से कहो कि वे यरदन नदी से बाहर आ जाएं.”

17 And Joshua commanded the priests, saying, Come ye up out of the Jordan.

तब यहोशू ने पुरोहितों से कहा, “यरदन से बाहर आ जायें.”

18 And it came to pass, when the priests that bore the ark of the covenant of the Lord were come up out of the midst of the Jordan, the soles of the feet of the priests were lifted up unto the dry land, that the waters of the Jordan returned unto their place, and flowed over all its banks, as on the preceding days.

उस समय ऐसा हुआ, कि जैसे ही याहवेह की वाचा का संदूक लिए पुरोहित यरदन से बाहर आए तथा उनके पांव सूखी भूमि पर पड़े, यरदन नदी फिर से पहले जैसी बहने लगी.

19 And the people came up out of the Jordan on the tenth day of the first month, and encamped in Gilgal, on the extreme eastern border of Jericho.

यह पहले महीने का दसवां दिन था, जब लोग यरदन नदी पार कर निकल आए, और गिलगाल में येरीख़ो के पूर्व में अपने पड़ाव डाल दिया.

20 And those twelve stones, which they had taken out of the Jordan, did Joshua set up in Gilgal.

यरदन में से उठाए गए वे बारह पत्थर यहोशू ने गिलगाल में खड़े कर दिए.

21 And he said unto the children of Israel, thus, When your children shall ask in time to come their fathers, saying, What mean these stones?

इस्राएल वंशजों से यहोशू ने कहा, “जब भविष्य में तुम्हारे बच्‍चे अपने पिता से यह पूछे, ‘क्या अर्थ है इन पत्थरों का?’

22 Then shall ye let your children know, saying, On dry land did Israel pass over this Jordan;

तब तुम अपने बच्‍चे को यह बताना, ‘इस्राएल ने यरदन नदी को सूखी भूमि पर चलते हुए पार किया था.’

23 That the Lord your God dried up the waters of the Jordan from before you, until ye were passed over, as the Lord your God did to the Red Sea, which he dried up from before us, until we were gone over;

क्योंकि याहवेह, तुम्हारे परमेश्वर ने नदी पार करने तक यरदन के जल को सुखाए रखा था; ठीक जिस प्रकार याहवेह तुम्हारे परमेश्वर ने लाल सागर को सूखा दिया था, जब तक हम पार न हो गए थे;

24 In order that all the nations of the earth may know the hand of the Lord, that it is mighty; in order that ye may fear the Lord your God all the days.

पृथ्वी के सभी मनुष्यों को यह मालूम हो जाए कि याहवेह का हाथ कितना महान है, ताकि याहवेह, तुम्हारे परमेश्वर के प्रति तुम्हारें मन में आदर और भय हो.”
