Joshua 17
1 And then came the lot for the tribe of Menasseh; for he was the first-born of Joseph: to wit, for Machir the first-born of Menasseh, the father of Gil'ad; because he was a man of war, therefore he obtained Gil'ad and Bashan.
Sodann fiel dem Stamm Manasse – dieser war nämlich der erstgeborene Sohn Josephs – sein Losanteil zu. Machir, dem erstgeborenen Sohne Manasses, dem Vater Gileads, wurde Gilead und Basan zuteil, denn er war ein Kriegsmann.
2 There was also a lot for the rest of the children of Menasseh after their families; for the children of Abi'ezer, and for the children of Chelek, and for the children of Assriel, and for the children of Shechem, and for the children of Chepher, and for the children of Shemida': these were the male children of Menasseh the son of Joseph after their families.
Sodann erhielten die übrigen Nachkommen Manasses, Geschlecht für Geschlecht, ihren Anteil, nämlich die Nachkommen Abiesers, die Nachkommen Heleks, die Nachkommen Asriels, die Nachkommen Sichems, die Nachkommen Hephers und die Nachkommen Semidas; dies waren die männlichen Nachkommen Manasses, des Sohnes Josephs, Geschlecht für Geschlecht.
3 But Zelophchad, the son of Chepher, the son of Gil'ad, the son of Machir, the son of Menasseh, had no sons, but only daughters, and these are the names of his daughters, Machlah, and No'ah, Choglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.
Aber Zelophhad, der Sohn Hephers, des Sohnes Gileads, des Sohnes Machirs, des Sohnes Manasses, hatte keine Söhne, sondern nur Töchter; deren Namen waren Mahla, Noa, Hogla, Milka und Thirza.
4 And they came near before Elazar the priest, and before Joshua the son of Nun, and before the princes, saying, The Lord commanded Moses to give unto us an inheritance among our brethren. And he gave them, according to the order of the Lord, an inheritance among the brethren of their father.
Diese traten nun vor den Priester Eleasar und vor Josua, den Sohn Nuns, und vor die Fürsten und sagten: »Der HERR hat Mose geboten, uns ein Erbteil unter unsern Stammesgenossen zu geben.« Da überwies er ihnen nach dem Befehl des HERRN ein Erbteil unter den Stammesgenossen ihres Vaters;
5 And there fell ten portions of Menasseh, beside the lands of Gil'ad and Bashan, which were on the other side of the Jordan;
und so fielen dem Stamm Manasse zehn Losanteile zu, abgesehen von der Landschaft Gilead und Basan, die jenseits des Jordans liegen;
6 Because the daughters of Menasseh obtained an inheritance among his sons: and the land of Gil'ad belonged to the rest of the sons of Manasseh.
denn die weiblichen Nachkommen Manasses erhielten ein Erbteil gerade wie seine männlichen Nachkommen; die Landschaft Gilead aber kam an die übrigen Nachkommen Manasses.
7 And the boundary of Menasseh was from Asher to Michmethath, that lieth before Shechem; and the boundary went along on the right hand unto the inhabitants of 'En-tappuach.
Es geht aber die Grenze des Stammes Manasse von Asser nach Michmethath, das östlich von Sichem liegt; dann geht die Grenze südwärts zu den Bewohnern von En-Thappuah hin.
8 To Menasseh belonged the land of Tappuach; but Tappuach on the borders of Menasseh belonged to the children of Ephraim;
Die Landschaft Thappuah gehört zum Stamm Manasse; die Stadt Thappuah selbst aber, an der Grenze von Manasse, gehört zum Stamme Ephraim.
9 And the boundary descended unto the brook Kanah, southward of the brook; these cities belonging to Ephraim are in the midst of the cities of Menasseh; and the boundary of Menasseh was on the north side of the river, and its terminations were toward the sea:
Dann geht die Grenze hinab zum Bache Kana, südlich von dem Bache – die dort mitten unter den Städten Manasses liegenden Ortschaften gehören zum Stamm Ephraim –; alsdann aber läuft die Grenze nördlich vom Bache und endet am Meer;
10 Southward it was Ephraim's, and northward it was Menasseh's, and the sea was [there] his boundary; and on Asher they touched on the north, and on Issachar on the east.
die Südseite ist ephraimitisch, die Nordseite manassitisch, und das Meer bildet hier die Grenze; nordwärts aber stoßen sie an Asser, ostwärts an Issaschar.
11 And to Menasseh belonged in Issachar and in Asher Beth-shean and its towns, and Yible'am and its towns, together with the inhabitants of Dor and its towns, and the inhabitants of 'En-dor and its towns, and the inhabitants of Ta'anach and its towns, and the inhabitants of Megiddo and its towns, namely the three districts.
Außerdem erhielt der Stamm Manasse in Issaschar und in Asser folgende Städte: Beth-Sean mit den zugehörigen Ortschaften, ferner Jibleam mit den zugehörigen Ortschaften sowie die Bewohner von Dor und von En-Dor mit den zugehörigen Ortschaften, die Bewohner von Thaanach mit den zugehörigen Ortschaften und die Bewohner von Megiddo mit den zugehörigen Ortschaften: das Dreihügelgebiet. –
12 Yet the children of Menasseh could not drive out the inhabitants of these cities; but the Canaanites succeeded to dwell in this land;
Der Stamm Manasse vermochte jedoch nicht diese Städte zu erobern; daher gelang es den Kanaanäern, in dieser Gegend wohnen zu bleiben.
13 Yet it came to pass, when the children of Israel were become strong, that they put the Canaanites to tribute; but they did not drive them out.
Als später aber die Israeliten erstarkten, machten sie die Kanaanäer fronpflichtig, ohne sie jedoch ganz vertreiben zu können.
14 And the children of Joseph spoke unto Joshua, saying, Why hast thou given me but one lot and one portion as an inheritance, seeing I am a numerous people, to which extent the Lord hath hitherto blessed me?
Da wandten sich die beiden Josephstämme an Josua und trugen ihm folgendes vor: »Warum hast du mir nur ein Los und einen einzigen Anteil als Erbbesitz gegeben, obgleich ich doch ein zahlreiches Volk bin, da der HERR mich bisher gesegnet hat?«
15 And Joshua said unto them, If thou art a numerous people, then get thee up to the wood country, and cut down [a space] for thyself there in the land of the Perizzites and of the Rephaim, if the mountain of Ephraim be too narrow for thee.
Josua antwortete ihnen: »Wenn du ein zahlreiches Volk bist, so ziehe doch in den Wald hinauf und schaffe dir dort im Lande der Pherissiter und der Rephaiter durch Ausroden des Waldes Raum zum Wohnen, wenn dir das Bergland Ephraim zu enge ist.«
16 And the children of Joseph said, The mountain will not be enough for us; and chariots of iron are belonging to all the Canaanites that dwell in the land of the valley, to those who are at Beth-shean and its towns, and to those who are in the valley of Yizre'el.
Da entgegneten die Nachkommen Josephs: »Das Bergland reicht für uns nicht aus; alle Kanaanäer aber, die unten in der Ebene wohnen, haben eiserne Streitwagen, sowohl die, welche in Beth-Sean und den zugehörigen Ortschaften, als auch die, welche in der Ebene Jesreel wohnen.«
17 And Joshua said unto the house of Joseph, to Ephraim and to Menasseh, as followeth, Thou art a numerous people, and hast great power; thou shalt not have one lot only;
Da antwortete Josua den beiden Josephstämmen Ephraim und Manasse: »Du bist ein sehr zahlreiches und sehr starkes Volk; so sollst du nicht nur ein Los erhalten;
18 But the mountain shall be thine; it is indeed a wood, yet thou canst cut it down; and the terminations of it shall be thine; for thou shalt drive out the Canaanites, though they have iron chariots, though they be strong.
denn ein Bergland wird dir zuteil werden. Da es Wald ist, mußt du ihn ausroden: dann werden auch die Ausläufer dir zuteil werden; denn du wirst die Kanaanäer vertreiben, wenn sie auch eiserne Wagen haben und wenn sie auch stark sind.«
