Jonah 4

1 But it displeased Jonah exceedingly; and he was wroth.

൧യോനായ്ക്ക് ഇത് തികച്ചും അനിഷ്ടമായി. അവൻ കോപിച്ചു.

2 And he prayed unto the Lord, and said, I pray thee, O Lord, was not this my word, while I was yet in my own country? Therefore made I haste to fly unto Tharshish; for I knew that thou art a gracious God, and merciful, long-suffering, and abundant in kindness, and repentant of the evil.

൨അവൻ യഹോവയോട് പ്രാർത്ഥിച്ചു: “അയ്യോ, യഹോവേ, ഞാൻ സ്വദേശത്ത് ആയിരുന്നപ്പോൾ ഇതു തന്നേ സംഭവിക്കുമെന്ന് പറഞ്ഞിരുന്നല്ലോ? അതുകൊണ്ടായിരുന്നു ഞാൻ ആദ്യം തർശീശിലേക്ക് ഓടിപ്പോയത്; നീ കൃപയും കരുണയും ദീർഘക്ഷമയും മഹാദയയുമുള്ള ദൈവമാകയാൽ അനർത്ഥത്തെക്കുറിച്ചു മനസ്സുമാറ്റും എന്നു ഞാൻ അറിഞ്ഞിരുന്നു.

3 And now, O Lord, take, I pray thee, my soul from me; because it is better for me to die, than to live.

൩ആകയാൽ യഹോവേ, എന്റെ ജീവനെ എടുത്തുകൊള്ളേണമേ; ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നതിനെക്കാൾ മരിക്കുന്നത് എനിക്ക് നല്ലത്” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

4 And the Lord said, Art thou very wroth?

൪“നീ കോപിക്കുന്നതു ന്യായമോ” എന്ന് യഹോവ ചോദിച്ചു.

5 Now Jonah was gone out of the city, and dwelt on the east side of the city; and he had made himself there a booth, and sat under it in the shade, till he should see what would become of the city.

൫അനന്തരം യോനാ നഗരത്തിന്റെ പുറത്ത് കിഴക്കുഭാഗത്തായി ഇരുന്നു; അവിടെ ഒരു കുടിലുണ്ടാക്കി നഗരത്തിന് എന്ത് ഭവിക്കും എന്നു കാണുവാൻ അതിന്റെ തണലിൽ കാത്തിരുന്നു.

6 And the Lord God made ready a gourd, and it grew up over Jonah, to be a shade over his head, to relieve him from his affliction. And Jonah rejoiced because of the gourd exceedingly.

൬യോനയുടെ സങ്കടത്തിൽ ആശ്വാസമായി അവന്റെ തലക്കു മുകളിൽ തണൽ ആയിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന് യഹോവയായ ദൈവം ഒരു ആവണക്ക് ഉണ്ടാകുവാൻ കല്പിച്ചു. അത് അവന് മീതെ വളർന്നുപൊങ്ങി; യോനാ ആവണക്കു നിമിത്തം അത്യന്തം സന്തോഷിച്ചു.

7 But God made ready a worm when the morning dawned on the morrow, and it smote the gourd that it withered.

൭പിറ്റെന്നാൾ പുലർന്നപ്പോൾ ദൈവകൽപ്പനയാൽ ഒരു പുഴു ആ ആവണക്ക് നശിപ്പിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു, അത് വാടിപ്പോയി.

8 And it came to pass, when the sun arose, that God made ready a hot east wind; and the sun beat upon the head of Jonah, that he became faint; and he wished for himself to die, and said, It is better for me to die than to live.

൮സൂര്യൻ ഉദിച്ചപ്പോൾ ദൈവം അത്യഷ്ണമുള്ള ഒരു കിഴക്കൻകാറ്റ് വരുത്തി; വെയിൽ യോനയുടെ തലയിൽ കൊള്ളുകയാൽ അവൻ ക്ഷീണിച്ച് മരിച്ചാൽ കൊള്ളാം എന്ന് ഇച്ഛിച്ചു: “ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നതിനെക്കാൾ മരിക്കുന്നത് എനിക്ക് നല്ലത്” എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു.

9 And God said unto Jonah, Art thou very wroth for the gourd? And he said, I am very wroth, even unto death.

൯ദൈവം യോനയോട്: “നീ ആവണക്കു നിമിത്തം കോപിക്കുന്നത് ന്യായമോ” എന്നു ചോദിച്ചതിന് അവൻ: “ഞാൻ മരണപര്യന്തം കോപിക്കുന്നത് ന്യായം തന്നേ” എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു.

10 And the Lord said, Thou wouldst have spared the gourd, for which thou hadst not labored, neither hadst thou made it grow; which came up in one night, and perished in one night;

൧൦അതിന് യഹോവ: “നീ അദ്ധ്വാനിക്കയോ വളർത്തുകയൊ ചെയ്യാതെ ഒരു രാത്രിയിൽ ഉണ്ടായി വരികയും പിറ്റേ രാത്രിയിൽ നശിച്ചുപോകയും ചെയ്ത ആവണക്കിനെക്കുറിച്ച് നിനക്ക് അനുകമ്പ തോന്നുന്നുവല്ലോ.

11 And shall I not spare Nineveh, that great city, wherein are more than twelve times ten thousand persons, who know not how to discern between their right hand and their left hand, and also much cattle?

൧൧എന്നാൽ വലങ്കയ്യും ഇടങ്കയ്യും തമ്മിൽ തിരിച്ചറിഞ്ഞുകൂടാത്ത ഒരുലക്ഷത്തി ഇരുപതിനായിരത്തിൽ അധികം മനുഷ്യരും അനേകം മൃഗങ്ങളുമുള്ള മഹാനഗരമായ നീനെവേയോട് എനിക്ക് സഹതാപം തോന്നരുതോ” എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.
