Job 35
1 Then commenced Elihu, and said,
Og Elihu tog til Orde og sagde:
2 Dost thou deem this to be just, that thou hast said, “My righteousness is more than God's?”
Holder du det for Ret, og kalder du det din Ret for Gud,
3 For thou sayest, “What benefit will it be unto thee? what more profit shall I have, than if I had sinned?”
at du siger: »Hvad baader det mig, hvad hjælper det mig, at jeg ikke synder?«
4 I will truly reply unto thee with words, and unto thy friends with thee.
Jeg vil give dig Svar og tillige med dig dine Venner:
5 Look unto the heavens, and see; and gaze on the skies which are higher than thou.
Løft dit Blik imod Himlen og se, læg Mærke til Skyerne, hvor højt de, er over dig!
6 If thou sin, what dost thou effect against him? and if thy transgressions be multiplied, what canst thou do unto him?
Hvis du synder, hvad skader du ham? Er din Brøde svar, hvad gør det da ham?
7 If thou be righteous, what givest thou him? or what doth he accept out of thy hand?
Er du retfærdig, hvad gavner du ham, hvad mon han faar af din Haand?
8 A man like thyself thy wickedness may reach, and a son of earth thy righteousness.
Du Menneske, dig vedkommer din Gudløshed, dig, et Menneskebarn, din Retfærd!
9 By reason of the multitude of oppressions [the wicked] cause men to cry: these complain aloud because of the arm of the mighty.
Man skriger over den megen Vold, raaber om Hjælp mod de mægtiges Arm,
10 But [man] saith not, Where is God my maker, who bestoweth joyful songs even in the night;
men siger ej: »Hvor er Gud, vor Skaber, som giver Lovsang om Natten,
11 Who teacheth us more than the beasts of the earth, and maketh us wiser than the fowls of the heavens?
lærer os mer end Jordens Dyr, gør os vise fremfor Himlens Fugle?«
12 There do they cry, but he answereth not: because of the pride of evil men.
Der raaber man, uden at han giver Svar, over de ondes Hovmod;
13 Only what is false will God not hear, nor will the Almighty regard it.
til visse, Gud hører ej tomme Ord, den Almægtige ænser dem ikke,
14 Although thou sayest, thou canst not see him: yet the decision is before him; and do thou wait for him.
endsige din Paastand om ikke at se ham! Vær stille for hans Aasyn og bi paa ham!
15 But now, because his anger hath punished nothing, shall he not greatly take cognizance of the multitude of sins?
Men nu, da hans Vrede ej bringer Straf og han ikke bekymrer sig stort om Synd,
16 But Job openeth wide his mouth for nought: without knowledge he heapeth up words.
saa oplader Job sin Mund med Tant, uden Indsigt taler han store Ord.
