Job 28
1 For truly there is a source for the silver, and a place for the gold which men refine.
“Seguramente hay una mina de plata, y un lugar para el oro que refinan.
2 Iron is taken out of the dust, and the stone is melted into copper.
El hierro se extrae de la tierra, y el cobre se funde a partir del mineral.
3 An end doth he set to darkness, and the very utmost limit doth he search out, the stones of darkness, and of the shadow of death.
El hombre pone fin a la oscuridad, y busca, hasta el límite más lejano, las piedras de la oscuridad y de la espesa oscuridad.
4 He breaketh a channel far from the inhabited place; those of unsteady foot, the poorest of men move [there about].
Abre un pozo lejos de donde vive la gente. Se olvidan por el pie. Cuelgan lejos de los hombres, se balancean de un lado a otro.
5 The earth, out of which cometh forth bread, is under its surface turned up as it were with fire.
En cuanto a la tierra, de ella sale el pan. Por debajo, está volteado como si fuera por el fuego.
6 Her stones are the place whence the sapphire cometh; and golden dust is also there;
Los zafiros proceden de sus rocas. Tiene polvo de oro.
7 [On the] path which no bird of prey knoweth, and which the vulture's eye hath not surveyed;
Ese camino no lo conoce ningún ave de rapiña, tampoco lo ha visto el ojo del halcón.
8 [Which] ravenous beasts have never trodden, over which the lion hath never passed.
Los animales orgullosos no la han pisado, ni el león feroz ha pasado por allí.
9 To the flinty rock he stretcheth forth his hand; he overturneth the mountains from the root.
Pone la mano en la roca de pedernal, y derriba los montes de raíz.
10 Amid rocks he heweth out canals: and every precious thing doth his eye behold.
Él corta canales entre las rocas. Su ojo ve cada cosa preciosa.
11 The various droppings of water he uniteth into streams, and what is hidden he bringeth forth to light.
Él ata los arroyos para que no se rieguen. Lo que está oculto lo saca a la luz.
12 But wisdom—where shall she he found? and where is the place of understanding?
“Pero, ¿dónde se encontrará la sabiduría? ¿Dónde está el lugar del entendimiento?
13 Man knoweth not her value: and she is not to be found in the land of the living.
El hombre no conoce su precio, y no se encuentra en la tierra de los vivos.
14 The deep saith, Not in me is she: and the sea saith, She is not with me.
Lo profundo dice: “No está en mí”. El mar dice: “No está conmigo”.
15 No fine gold can be given in lieu of her, and silver cannot be weighed out as her price.
No se puede conseguir por oro, tampoco se pesará la plata por su precio.
16 She cannot be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx, or the sapphire.
No se puede valorar con el oro de Ofir, con el precioso ónix, o el zafiro.
17 She cannot be estimated after gold and glass; and not in exchange for her [can] vessels of refined gold [be taken.]
El oro y el cristal no pueden igualarlo, ni se cambiará por joyas de oro fino.
18 Coral and crystal will not be thought of; and the value of wisdom is above pearls.
No se mencionará el coral ni el cristal. Sí, el precio de la sabiduría está por encima de los rubíes.
19 She cannot be estimated after the topaz of Ethiopia, nor can she be valued with pure gold.
El topacio de Etiopía no lo igualará. No se valorará con oro puro.
20 But wisdom—whence cometh she? and where is the place of understanding?
¿De dónde viene entonces la sabiduría? ¿Dónde está el lugar del entendimiento?
21 Yea, she is hidden from the eyes of all living, and from the fowls of the heavens is she concealed.
Verlo está oculto a los ojos de todos los vivos, y se mantuvo cerca de las aves del cielo.
22 Perdition and death say, With our ears have we heard a report of her.
La destrucción y la muerte dicen, ‘Hemos oído el rumor con nuestros oídos’.
23 God [alone] understandeth her way, and he knoweth her place;
“Dios entiende su camino, y conoce su lugar.
24 For he looketh to the ends of the earth, [whatever is] under the whole heaven doth he see.
Porque mira hasta los confines de la tierra, y ve bajo todo el cielo.
25 When he imparted weight unto the wind; and [when] the waters he established by measure;
Él establece la fuerza del viento. Sí, mide las aguas por medida.
26 When he made a law for the rain, and a way for the lightning of [his] thunders;
Cuando hizo un decreto para la lluvia, y un camino para el relámpago del trueno,
27 Then did he see her, and make her known; he established her, and also searched her out.
entonces lo vio y lo declaró. Lo estableció, sí, y lo buscó.
28 And he said unto man, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to eschew evil is understanding.
Al hombre le dijo, He aquí el temor del Señor, que es la sabiduría. Apartarse del mal es la comprensión’”.
