Job 2
1 And it happened [again] on a certain day, when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, that the Accuser also came in the midst of them to present himself before the Lord.
Ja tapahtui yhtenä päivänä, kuin Jumalan lapset tulivat ja astuivat Herran eteen, että saatana myös tuli heidän kanssansa ja astui Herran eteen.
2 Then said the Lord unto the Accuser, Whence comest thou now? And the Accuser answered the Lord, and said, From roaming over the earth, and from wandering through it.
Silloin sanoi Herra saatanalle: kusta tulet? Saatana vastasi Herraa ja sanoi: minä olen käynyt ja vaeltanut ympäri maan.
3 Then said the Lord unto the Accuser, Hast thou directed thy attention toward my servant Job: for there is none like him on the earth, a man perfect and upright, who feareth God, and escheweth evil? and he is still holding fast to his integrity, and thou hast incited me against him, to destroy him without cause.
Ja Herra sanoi saatanalle: etkös ole ottanut vaaria palveliastani Jobista? sillä ei hänen vertaistansa ole maalla: hän on vakaa ja hurskas ja Jumalaa pelkääväinen mies, ja välttää pahaa ja pysyy vielä vakuudessansa, ja sinä yllytit minua häntä hävittämään ilman syytä.
4 Then answered the Accuser the Lord, and said, Skin for skin: yea, all that a man hath will he give in behalf of his life.
Saatana vastasi Herraa ja sanoi: nahka nahasta, ja kaikki, mitä ihmisessä on, antaa hän henkensä edestä.
5 But stretch only forth thy hand, and touch his bone and his flesh, and [see] whether he will not renounce thee to thy face.
Mutta ojenna kätes ja rupee hänen luihinsa ja lihaansa; mitämaks hän luopuu sinusta kasvois edessä.
6 Then said the Lord unto the Accuser, Behold, he is in thy hand: only take care of his life.
Herra sanoi saatanalle: katso, hän olkoon sinun kädessäs; kuitenkin säästä hänen henkeänsä.
7 Thereupon went the Accuser forth from the presence of the Lord, and he smote Job with a sore inflammation, from the sole of his foot unto the crown of his head.
Silloin läksi saatana Herran tyköä ja löi Jobin pahoilla paisumilla, hänen kantapäästä kiireesen asti.
8 And [Job] took himself a potsherd to scrape himself there with, while he was sitting down among the ashes.
Ja hän otti saviastian ja kaapi itseänsä sillä, ja istui tuhassa.
9 Then said his wife unto him, Art thou still holding fast to thy integrity? renounce God, and die.
Ja hänen emäntänsä sanoi hänelle: Vieläkös pysyt vakuudessas? siunaa Jumalaa ja kuole.
10 But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the worthless women would speak. What? should we accept the good alone, from God, and the evil we should not accept? With all this did Job not sin with his lips.
Mutta hän sanoi hänelle: sinä puhut niinkuin tyhmät vaimot puhuvat. Jos me olemme hyvää saaneet Jumalalta, eikö myös meidän pidä ottaman pahaa vastaan? Kaikissa näissä ei Job syntiä tehnyt huulillansa.
11 When now the three friends of Job had heard of all this evil that was come over him, they came every one from his own place, Eliphaz the Themanite, and Bildad the Shuchite, and Zophar the Na'amthite; and they met together to come to condole with him and to comfort him.
Kuin Jobin kolme ystävää kuulivat kaiken sen onnettomuuden, joka hänelle tullut oli, tulivat he itsekukin paikkakunnastansa: Eliphas Temanista, Bildad Suasta ja Zophar Naemasta, ja kokoontuivat ynnä tulemaan, armahtelemaan ja lohduttamaan häntä.
12 And when they lifted up their eyes afar off, and they recognised him not, they lifted up their voice, and wept; and they rent every one his robe, and strewed dust upon their heads toward heaven.
Ja kuin he nostivat taampaa silmänsä, ei he häntä tunteneet, ja korottivat äänensä ja itkivät; ja jokainen repäisi vaatteensa, ja heittivät tomua päänsä päälle taivasta kohden,
13 They likewise sat down with him on the ground seven days and seven nights; but no one spoke a word unto him; for they saw that his pain was very great.
Ja istuivat hänen kanssansa maan päällä seitsemän päivää ja seitsemän yötä, ja ei sanaakaan hänen kanssansa puhuneet; sillä he näkivät hänen kipunsa sangen suureksi.
