< Job 14 >
1 Man born of a woman is short of days, and sated with harrowing trouble.
2 Like a flower he cometh forth, and is cut down: and he fleeth like a shadow, and remaineth not.
Ano he puawai ia e puta mai ana, e kotia iho ana: rere ana ia, ano he atarangi, kahore hoki he tumautanga.
3 And yet on such a one dost thou open thy eyes, and me thou bringest into judgment with thee?
4 Who can make a clean thing out of an unclean? not one [thing].
Ko wai hei homai i te mea ma i roto i te mea poke? Hore rawa.
5 Seeing that his days are determined, the number of his months are [fixed] with thee, that thou hast set his bounds which he cannot pass:
Kua rite na hoki nga ra mona: kei a koe te maha o ona marama; takoto rawa i a koe te tikanga mona, a e kore ia e whiti ki tua.
6 Turn thyself from him that he may recover from his pain, and be able to enjoy like a hired laborer his day.
7 For there is hope for the tree: if it be cut down, it may still sprout again, while its young shoot will not cease.
8 If even its root become old in the earth, and its stock die in the dust:
Ahakoa kua tawhitotia tona pakiaka a ki te whenua, a kua mate tona tinana i roto i te oneone;
9 Yet through the scent of water will it flourish [again], and produce boughs as though It were newly planted.
10 But man dieth, and lieth powerless: yea, the son of earth departeth—and where is he?
Ko te tangata ia, mate iho, marere noa iho; ae, ka hamo te tangata, a kei hea ia?
11 The waters run off from the sea, and the river faileth and drieth up:
Pera i nga wai e he mai nei i te moana, i te awa e mimiti ana, ka maroke;
12 So doth man lie down, and riseth not: till the heavens be no more, they will not awake, and will not be roused out of their sleep.
E pera ana ano te tangata, e takoto ana a kahore he whakatikanga ake: kahore he marangatanga ake mo ratou, a kia kore ra ano nga rangi; e kore ano ratou e ara i to ratou moe.
13 Oh who would grant that thou mightest hide me in the nether world, that thou mightest conceal me, until thy wrath be appeased, that thou mightest set for me a fixed time, and remember me then! (Sheol )
Aue, kia huna noatia oti ahau e koe ki te po, kia waihotia noatia iho ahau e koe kia ngaro ana, kia hoki ra ano tou riri; kia rohea noatia mai e koe tetahi wa moku, a ka mahara mai ai ano ki ahau! (Sheol )
14 Or, when a man dieth, will he live again? all the days of my time of service would I then wait, till [the hour of] my release were come.
Ka tatari ahau i nga ra katoa o toku ngananga, kia tae mai ra ano he whakaputanga moku.
15 Do thou call, and I will truly answer thee: have a desire for the work of thy hands.
Mau e karanga, kia whakao atu ai ahau; kahore hoki e kore ka matenui koe ki te mahi a ou ringa.
16 Yet now thou numberest my steps: and thou waitest not with [the punishment of] my sin.
Inaianei hoki e taua ana e koe oku hikoinga; he teka ianei e matatau tonu mai ana koe ki toku hara?
17 Sealed up in a bag is my transgression, and thou yet addest to my iniquity.
18 But truly a falling mountain will crumble, and [even] a rock is moved out of its place.
He pono ko te maunga e horo ana e memeha noa ake ana, e nekehia ana te toka i tona wahi;
19 The water weareth out stones; thou sweepest away their fragments [like] the dust of the earth: and so thou destroyest the hope of man.
E ngau ana te wai i nga kohatu; ma tona puhaketanga e horoi atu te puehu o te whenua; a whakangaromia iho e koe te tumanako a te tangata.
20 Thou assailest him with might without ceasing, till he passeth away: thou changest his countenance, and sendest him off.
Taea ana ia e koe ake tonu atu, a pahure ana ia; puta ke ana i a koe tona mata, a tonoa atu ana ia kia haere.
21 His children acquire honor, but he knoweth it not: and they are esteemed little, but he perceiveth nothing of them.
Ko te whakahonoretanga o ana tama, kahore e mohiotia e ia; ka hoki iho ratou hei ware, heoi kahore tetahi aha o ratou e maharatia e ia.
22 But his body. on him, feeleth pain, and his soul will mourn for him.
E mamae ano ia te kikokiko o tona tinana, a ka tangi tona wairua i roto i a ia.
