< Job 12 >

1 Then answered Job, and said,
OLELO mai ia o Ioba, i mai la,
2 Truly ye are indeed the [right kind of] people, and with you wisdom must die out.
He oiaio, o oukou ka poe kanaka, A e make pu ka noiau me oukou.
3 I also have sense like you; I do not fall short compared with you: and who possesseth not such things as these?
Aka, he naauao ko'u e like me oukou; Aole au i emi malalo iho o oukou: A owai la ka mea ike ole i na mea like me keia mau mea?
4 I am as one laughed at by his friend, who calleth upon God, while he answered him: [yea, ] a laughing-stock though righteous and innocent.
Ua lilo au i mea heneheneia e kona hoalauna, E kahea ana i ke Akua, a hoolohe mai oia ia ia; O ka mea pono a me ka hala ole, ua akaakaia oia.
5 To the unfortunate there is given contempt— according to the thoughts of him that is at ease— prepared [also] for those whose foot slippeth.
Me ka ipukukui i hoowahawahaia i ka manao o ka mea e noho nanea ana, Pela ka mea ua kokoke pahee kona mau wawae.
6 Prosperous are the tents of robbers, and security is given to those that provoke God. to him who carrieth his god in his hand.
Ua pomaikai na halelewa o ka poe luku wale, A ua noho maluhia ka poe hoonaukiuki aku i ke Akua; Iloko o ko lakou lima na ke Akua i haawi mai.
7 Yet, do only ask of the beasts, and they will instruct thee; and the fowls of the heavens, and they will tell it thee;
Aka, ano e ninau i na holoholona, a e ao mai lakou ia oe; A me na manu o ka lewa, a e hoike mai lakou ia oe;
8 Or speak to the earth, and she will instruct thee; and the fishes of the sea will inform thee
E olelo aku paha i ka honua, a e ao mai no ia ia oe: A o na ia o ke kai e hoakaka mai no lakou ia oe,
9 Who knoweth not through all these that the hand of the Lord hath wrought this?
Owai la ka mea ike ole i keia mau mea a pau, Na ka lima o Iehova i hana keia?
10 [He] in whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the spirit of all the bodies of men?
Iloko o kona lima ka uhane o na mea ola a pau, A me ka hanu o na kanaka a pau.
11 Doth not the ear try words, as the palate tasteth food for itself?
Aole anei e hoao ke pepeiao i na olelo? A e hoao ka waha i ka ai nona iho?
12 So It with the ancients wisdom, and with [those of] length of days understanding,
Me ka poe kahiko ka maiau, A me ke ola loihi ka naauao.
13 That with him are wisdom and strength, his are counsel and understanding.
Ia ia ka naauao, a me ka ikaika; Nona ka oleloao, a me ke akamai.
14 Behold, he pulleth down, and there can be no rebuilding: he locketh [the prison] upon a man, and there can be no opening,
Aia hoi, ke wawahi nei oia, aole e kukulu hou ia; Ke hahao aku ia i ke kanaka iloko, aole e hookuuia'ku.
15 Behold, he restraineth the waters, and they dry up; or he suffereth them to flow, and they overturn the earth.
Aia hoi, ke hoopaa nei oia i na wai, a ua maloo lakou: A hookuu aku oia ia lakou, a luku lakou i ko ka honua.
16 With him are strength and counsel: his are the deceived and the deceiver.
Me ia ka ikaika, a me ka naauao: Nona ka mea i hoopuniia, a me ka mea hoopuni.
17 He leadeth counsellors away bereft of sense, and maketh the judges fools.
Ua lawe pio aku ia i na kakaolelo, A hoolilo i na lunakanawai i poe hawawa.
18 He looseth the bond of kings, and bindeth a girdle around their loins.
Kala aku no ia i ka mea paa o na'lii, A kaei aku ia i ko lakou puhaka i ke kaei.
19 He leadeth priests away bereft of sense, and the powerful he causeth to walk on crooked paths.
Alakai pio aku ia i na kahuna, A hookahuli i ka poe ikaika.
20 He removeth the speech from trusty speakers, and taketh away the intelligence of the aged.
Hoopau aku ia i ka olelo a ka poe oiaio, A lawe aku ia i ka naauao, mai ka poe kahiko aku.
21 He poureth contempt upon princes, and the belt of the mighty be looseneth.
Ninini iho ia i ka hoino maluna o na'lii, A kala ae no ia i ke kaei o ka poe ikaika.
22 He layeth open deep things from the midst of darkness, and bringeth out unto light the shadow of death.
Hoike mai ia i na mea hohonu mailoko mai o ka pouli, A hoopuka no ia i ka malamalama mai ka malu make mai.
23 He permitteth the nations to become great, and destroyeth them: he spreadeth out the nations, and leadeth them away.
Hoomahuahua no ia i na lahuikanaka, a luku aku no hoi ia lakou: Hoonui aku no ia i na lahuikanaka, a hoemi hou iho ia lakou.
24 He taketh away the sense of the chiefs of the people of the land, and causeth them to wander astray in a wilderness when there is no way.
Lawe aku ia i ka naauao o na luna o kanaka ma ka honua; A hooauwana ia lakou ma ka waonahele, aohe alauui.
25 They grope in the dark without light, and he causeth them to wander astray like a drunken man.
Haha lakou iloko o ka pouli aohe malamalama, A e hoohikaka aku oia ia lakou, me he mea ona la.
