< Job 1 >

1 There was a man in the land of 'Uz, Job was his name; And this man was perfect and upright, and fearing God, and eschewing evil.
Biyya Uuzi jedhamu keessa nama Iyyoob jedhamu tokkotu ture. Namichi kunis nama hirʼina hin qabnee fi qajeelaa, nama Waaqa sodaatuu fi hammina irraa fagaate ture.
2 And there were born unto him seven sons and three daughters.
Innis ilmaan torbaa fi intallan sadii qaba ture;
3 And his cattle consisted of seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred yoke of oxen, and five hundred she-asses, and he had a very great store of servants: so that this man was greater than all the sons of the east.
akkasumas hoolota kuma torba, gaala kuma sadii, qotiyyoo cimdii dhibba shanii fi harroota dhibba shan, tajaajiltoota hedduus qaba ture; innis namoota biyya Baʼa Biiftuu jiraatan hunda keessaa nama guddaa ture.
4 And his sons used to go and prepare a feast in the house of every one on his day; and they sent and invited their three sisters to eat and to drink with them.
Ilmaan isaas mana isaaniitti dabaree dabareedhaan cidha qopheessanii akka isaan wajjin nyaatanii dhuganiif obboleettota isaanii sadan affeeru ture.
5 And it happened, when the days of the feast were gone round, that Job sent and sanctified them, and he then rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt-offerings according to the number of all of them; for Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned, and have renounced God in their heart. In this manner used Job to do all the time.
Erga yeroon cidha sanaa raawwatamee booddee Iyyoob itti ergee ijoollee isaa waamsisuudhaan, “Tarii ijoolleen koo cubbuu hojjetanii garaa isaaniittis Waaqa abaaraniiru taʼa” jedhee ganama barii waaʼee tokkoo tokkoo isaaniitiif aarsaa gubamu dhiʼeessuudhaan isaan qulqulleessa ture. Iyyoob yeroo hunda waan kana godha ture.
6 Now it happened on a certain day, when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, that the Accuser also came in the midst of them.
Gaaf tokko yeroo ergamoonni Waaqayyoo fuula Waaqayyoo duratti dhiʼaachuuf dhufanitti Seexannis isaan wajjin dhufe.
7 Then said the Lord unto the Accuser, Whence comest thou? And the Accuser answered the Lord, and said, From roaming over the earth, and from wandering through it.
Waaqayyos seexanaan, “Ati Eessaa dhufte?” jedhe. Seexannis, “Ani lafa hunda irra jooraa, asii fi achis deddeebiʼaa tureen dhufe” jedhee Waaqayyoof deebise.
8 Then said the Lord unto the Accuser, Hast thou directed thy attention toward my servant Job; for there is none like him on the earth, a man perfect and upright, who feareth God, and escheweth evil?
Waaqayyos Seexanaan, “Ati tajaajilaa koo Iyyoobin qalbeeffatteertaa? Namni isa fakkaatu tokko illee lafa irra hin jiru; inni nama hirʼina hin qabnee fi qajeelaa, nama Waaqa sodaatuu fi hammina irraa fagaatee dha” jedhe.
9 Then answered the Accuser the Lord, and said, Is it for nought that Job feareth God?
Seexanni immoo deebisee akkana jedhe, “Iyyoob akkasumaan Waaqa sodaataa?
10 Behold, thou hast indeed placed a fence about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath, on every side: the work of his hands hast thou blessed, and his cattle are far spread out in the land.
Ati naannoo isaatti, warra mana isaa jiraatanii fi waan kan isaa taʼe hundatti dallaa ijaarteerta mitii? Ati akka bushaayee fi loon isaa biyyicha guutaniif hojii harka isaa eebbifteertaaf.
11 But stretch only forth thy hand and touch all that he hath, and [see] whether he will not renounce thee to thy face.
Garuu ati mee harka kee diriirsiitii waan inni qabu hunda dhaʼi; inni dhugumaan ifaan ifatti si abaara.”
12 Then said the Lord unto the Accuser, Behold, all that is his be in thy power; only against himself shalt thou not stretch forth thy hand. The Accuser went thereupon away from the presence of the Lord.
Waaqayyos Seexanaan, “Kunoo, wanti inni qabu hundi si harka jira; isa garuu qubaanuu hin tuqin” jedhe. Sana booddee Seexanni fuula Waaqayyoo duraa baʼee deeme.
13 And it happened on a certain day, when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in the house of their first-born brother,
Gaaf tokko utuu ilmaanii fi intallan Iyyoob mana obboleessa isaanii isa hangafaatti nyaachaa, daadhii wayinii dhugaa jiranuu,
14 That a messenger came unto Job, and said, The oxen were ploughing, and the she-asses were feeding beside them:
ergamaan tokko gara Iyyoob dhufee akkana jedhe; “Utuu qotiyyoon qotaa, harroonni immoo naannuma sana dheedaa jiranuu,
15 When the Sabeans made an incursion, and took them away, and the young men they slew with the edge of the sword; and I am escaped, none but myself alone, to tell it unto thee.
namoonni Shebaa balaa buusanii isaan fudhatanii deeman. Tajaajiltootas goraadeedhaan fixan; ana qofatu miliqee sitti himuuf dhufe!”
16 This one was yet speaking, when another came, and said, A fire of God fell from heaven, and burnt among the sheep and the young men, and consumed them; and I am escaped, none but myself alone, to tell it unto thee.
Utuma inni dubbachaa jiruu ergamaan biraa dhufee, “Ibiddi Waaqaa samiidhaa buʼee hoolotaa fi tajaajiltoota gubee fixe; ana qofatu miliqee sitti himuuf dhufe!” jedhe.
17 This one was yet speaking, when another came, and said, The Chaldeans posted themselves in three divisions, and made an inroad against the camels, and took them away, and the young men they slew with the edge of the sword; and I am escaped, none but myself alone, to tell it unto thee.
Utuu inni dubbachaa jiruu ammas ergamaan biraa dhufee, “Kaldoonni garee sadiitti qoodamanii gaalawwan kee irra yaaʼanii isaan oofatanii deeman; tajaajiltootas goraadeedhaan fixan; ana qofatu miliqee sitti himuuf dhufe!” jedhe.
18 While this one was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, Thy sons and thy daughters were eating and drinking wine in the house of their first-born brother:
Utuma inni dubbachaa jiruu ergamaan biraa dhufee akkana jedheen; “Ilmaanii fi intallan kee mana obboleessa isaanii isa hangafaatti nyaachaa, daadhii wayinii dhugaa turan;
19 When, behold, a violent wind came from the direction of the wilderness, and struck against the four corners of the house, so that it fell upon the young men, and they died; and I am escaped, none but myself alone, to tell it unto thee.
yeroo kanattis bubbee hamaan akka tasaa gammoojjiidhaa kaʼee golee mana sanaa afran dhaʼe; manni sunis isaan irratti jigee dhuman; ana qofatu miliqee sitti himuuf dhufe!”
20 Then arose Job, and rent his robe, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and prostrated himself.
Kana irratti Iyyoob uffata isaa tarsaasee mataa isaa haaddate. Lafatti gombifamee sagadee
21 And he said, Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; may the name of the Lord be blessed.
akkana jedhe: “Ani qullaa koon gadameessa haadha kootiitii baʼe; qullaa koos nan deema. Waaqayyotu kenne; Waaqayyotu fudhate; maqaan Waaqayyoo haa eebbifamu.”
22 With all this did Job not sin, and attributed no injustice to God.
Wantoota kanneen hunda keessatti Iyyoob hojii dogoggoraatiin Waaqa himachuudhaan cubbuu hin hojjenne.
