Jeremiah 1
1 The words of Jeremiah the son of Chilkiyahu, one of the priests that were in 'Anathoth in the land of Benjamin;
Đây là lời của Giê-rê-mi, con trai Thầy Tế lễ Hinh-kia, một trong các thầy tế lễ ở A-na-tốt, xứ Bên-gia-min.
2 To whom the word of the Lord came in the days of Josiah the son of Amon the king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign,
Lời Chúa Hằng Hữu truyền dạy Giê-rê-mi bắt đầu từ năm thứ mười ba triều Vua Giô-si-a, con A-môn, nước Giu-đa.
3 And who continued [prophet] in the days of Jehoyakim the son of Josiah the king of Judah, until the end of the eleventh year of Zedekiah the son of Josiah the king of Judah, until the carrying away into exile of Jerusalem in the fifth month.
Chúa Hằng Hữu lại truyền dạy trong triều Vua Giê-hô-gia-kim, con Giô-si-a, và cứ tiếp tục như thế cho đến năm thứ mười một triều Vua Sê-đê-kia, một con trai khác của Giô-si-a. Vào tháng tám năm thứ mười một, dân thành Giê-ru-sa-lem bị bắt đi lưu đày.
4 And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,
Chúa Hằng Hữu ban cho tôi sứ điệp này:
5 Before yet I had formed thee in thy mother's body I knew thee; and before thou wast yet come forth out of the womb I sanctified thee: a prophet unto the nations did I ordain thee.
“Ta đã biết con trước khi tạo nên con trong lòng mẹ. Trước khi con sinh ra, Ta đã dành riêng con và chỉ định con làm tiên tri cho các dân tộc.”
6 And I said, Ah, Lord Eternal! behold, I know not how to speak; for I am [but] a lad.
Tôi thưa: “Lạy Chúa Hằng Hữu Chí Cao, con chẳng biết ăn nói làm sao! Con còn quá trẻ!”
7 And the Lord said unto me, Say not, I am [but] a lad; but to whomsoever I may send thee shalt thou go, and whatsoever I may command thee shalt thou speak.
Nhưng Chúa Hằng Hữu phán: “Đừng nói ‘Con còn quá trẻ,’ vì con sẽ đến những nơi Ta sai con đi, và nói những lời Ta dạy con.
8 Be not afraid because of them; for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the Lord.
Đừng sợ những người đó, vì Ta ở với con luôn và sẽ bảo vệ con. Ta, Chúa Hằng Hữu, đã phán vậy!”
9 And the Lord stretched forth his hand, and touched [me] therewith on my mouth; and the Lord said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth.
Rồi Chúa Hằng Hữu đưa tay chạm vào miệng tôi và phán: “Này, Ta đặt lời Ta trong miệng con!
10 See, I have appointed thee this day over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down: to build up, and to plant.
Ngày nay Ta chỉ định con để đứng lên chống lại các dân tộc và các vương quốc. Vài nơi con phải nhổ lên và phá sập, tiêu diệt và lật đổ. Có những nơi con phải xây dựng và trồng lại.”
11 And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying, What seest thou, Jeremiah? And I said, A staff of all almond-tree do I see.
Rồi Chúa Hằng Hữu phán bảo tôi: “Này, Giê-rê-mi! Con thấy gì?” Tôi thưa: “Con thấy một cành cây hạnh nhân.”
12 And the Lord said unto me, Thou hast well seen; for I am watching over my word to perform it.
Chúa Hằng Hữu phán: “Con thấy rất đúng vì Ta đang tỉnh thức để xem lời Ta tiên đoán thành sự thật!”
13 And the word of the Lord came unto me the second time, saying, What seest thou? And I said, A seething pot do I see; and the front thereof is turned from the north.
Chúa Hằng Hữu lại hỏi: “Con thấy gì?” Tôi thưa: “Con thấy một nồi nước sôi, đổ xuống từ phương bắc.”
14 And the Lord said unto me, Out of the north shall the evil break forth over all the inhabitants of the land,
Chúa Hằng Hữu giải thích: “Đúng, đó là tai họa từ phương bắc đổ lên mọi người sống trên đất nước này.
15 For, lo, I will call unto all the families of the kingdoms of the north, saith the Lord; and they shall come, and they shall set every one his throne at the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem, and upon all its walls round about, and upon [those of] all the cities of Judah.
Kìa! Ta sẽ gọi các đội quân của vương quốc phương bắc đến Giê-ru-sa-lem. Ta, Chúa Hằng Hữu, đã phán vậy! Họ sẽ đặt ngai mình tại các cổng thành. Họ sẽ tấn công các tường lũy và đánh phá thành của xứ Giu-đa.
16 And I will call them to account touching all their wickedness, in that they have forsaken me, and have burnt incense unto other gods, and have bowed down unto the works of their own hands.
Ta sẽ tuyên án trừng phạt trên dân Ta vì tất cả sự gian ác của chúng— vì chúng lìa bỏ Ta và dâng hương tế các thần lạ. Phải, chúng đã thờ lạy các thần tượng do tay chúng tạo ra!
17 But do thou gird up thy loins, and arise, and speak unto them all that I may command thee; be not discouraged because of them, lest I humble thee before them.
Vậy, con hãy đứng dậy, mặc áo sẵn sàng. Hãy đi ra và bảo chúng tất cả lời Ta dạy con. Đừng sợ chúng nó, kẻo Ta sẽ khiến con run rẩy trước mặt chúng.
18 But I, behold, I have made of thee this day a fortified city, and an iron pillar, and brazen walls over the whole land, against the kings of Judah, against its princes, against its priests, and against the people of the land.
Này, ngày nay Ta khiến con mạnh mẽ như một thành kiên cố không thể phá sập, như một cột sắt hay tường đồng. Con sẽ chống lại cả xứ— là các vua, các quan tướng, các thầy tế lễ, và cư dân Giu-đa.
19 And [although] they fight against thee, they shall not prevail against thee; for with thee am I saith the Lord, to deliver thee.
Chúng sẽ tranh đấu với con, nhưng chúng sẽ thất bại. Vì Ta ở với con, và Ta sẽ chăm sóc con. Ta, Chúa Hằng Hữu, phán vậy!”
