Jeremiah 7
1 The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying,
Écoutez tous la parole du Seigneur, peuples de la Judée;
2 Place thyself in the gate of the house of the Lord, and proclaim there this word, and say, Hear the word of the Lord, all ye of Judah, that enter in by these gates to bow down before the Lord.
Écoutez tous la parole du Seigneur, peuples de la Judée;
3 Thus hath said the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, Amend your ways and your deeds, and I will permit you to dwell in this place.
Voici ce que dit le Seigneur Dieu d'Israël Redressez vos voies et vos pensées, et j'habiterai avec vous en ce lieu.
4 [But] do not rely on the words of falsehood, saying, The temple of the Lord, The temple of the Lord, The temple of the Lord, [as] they [say].
Ne mettez pas votre confiance en vous-mêmes, ni en des paroles de mensonge; car il ne vous servira nullement de dire: Le temple du Seigneur, le temple du Seigneur est ici.
5 For if ye thoroughly amend your ways and your deeds; if ye thoroughly execute justice between a man and his neighbor;
Car si vous redressez vos voies et vos actions, si vous rendez la justice entre un homme et son prochain;
6 If ye oppress not the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, and shed not innocent blood in this place, and walk not after other gods to your own hurt:
Si vous n'opprimez pas l'étranger, ni l'orphelin, ni la veuve; si vous ne versez pas le sang innocent dans ce lieu; si vous ne courez pas, pour votre malheur, après des dieux étrangers,
7 Then will I permit you to dwell in this place, in the land that I have given to your fathers, from eternity to eternity.
J'habiterai ce lieu avec vous, en la terre que j'ai donnée, de siècle en siècle, à vos pères.
8 Behold, ye rely on the words of falsehood, that cannot profit.
Mais si vous mettez votre confiance en des paroles de mensonge, dont vous ne retirerez aucun secours;
9 How? will ye steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense unto Ba'al, and walk after other gods of which ye have no knowledge;
Si vous tuez, si vous commettez des adultères, si vous volez, si vous jurez faussement, si vous brûlez de l'encens à Baal, et si vous courez, pour votre malheur, après des dieux étrangers qui vous étaient inconnus;
10 And [then] come and stand before my presence in this house, which is called by my name, and say, “We are delivered;” in order to do all these abominations?
Et après cela, si vous venez, si vous vous placez devant moi en cette maison où mon nom a été invoqué, disant: Nous nous sommes abstenus de commettre ces abominations,
11 Is then this house, which is called by my name, become a den of robbers in your eyes? [But] I also, behold, I have seen it, saith the Lord.
Moi je vous dirai: Est-ce une caverne de voleurs, ma maison où mon nom a été invoqué devant vous? Je vous ai vus, dit le Seigneur.
12 For go ye now unto my place which was in Shiloh, where I caused my name to dwell at the first, and see what I did unto it because of the wickedness of my people Israel.
Allez en ce lieu qui m'appartient, à Silo, où d'abord j'avais abrité mon nom; et voyez comment je l'ai traité, à la vue de la méchanceté de mon peuple Israël.
13 And now, whereas ye have done all these acts, saith the Lord, and I spoke unto you, causing [the prophets] to rise up early and speaking, while ye would not hear; and I called you, but ye would not answer:
Et maintenant parce que vous avez fait toutes ces œuvres, parce que je vous ai parlé, et que vous ne m'avez pas écouté; parce que je vous ai appelés et que vous ne m'avez pas répondu,
14 Therefore will I do unto this house, which is called by my name, whereon ye rely, and unto the place which I have given to you and to your fathers, as I have done to Shiloh.
Je traiterai cette maison où mon nom a été invoqué, et en qui vous mettiez votre confiance, je traiterai cette terre que j'ai donnée à vos pères et à vous, comme j'ai traité Silo.
15 And I will cast you out of my presence, as I have cast out all your brethren, all the seed of Ephraim.
Et je vous rejetterai loin de ma face, comme j'ai rejeté vos frères, toute la race d'Éphraïm.
16 But thou—pray not thou in behalf of this people, nor lift up in their behalf entreaty or prayer, nor make intercession to me; for I will not hear thee.
Et toi, garde-toi de prier pour ce peuple; ne demande pas que je lui fasse miséricorde; ne prie pas et ne viens pas à moi pour eux, car je ne t'exaucerai point.
17 Dost thou not see what they are doing in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?
Ne vois-tu pas ce qu'ils font dans les villes de Juda et dans les rues de Jérusalem?
18 The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead dough, to make cakes for the queen of heaven, and they pour out drink-offerings unto other gods, in order to provoke me to anger.
Leurs fils amassent le bois, et les pères allument le feu, et leurs femmes pétrissent la pâte pour offrir des gâteaux à la reine du ciel, et ils répandent des libations pour des dieux étrangers, afin de provoquer ma colère.
19 Do they provoke me to anger? saith the Lord, [and] not themselves, to the shame of their own faces?
Est-ce moi qu'ils provoquent ainsi? dit le Seigneur. N'est-ce pas eux- mêmes, pour que leur front soit couvert de honte?
20 Therefore thus hath said the Lord Eternal, Behold my anger and my fury shall be poured out upon this place, over man, and over beast, and over the trees of the field, and over the fruit of the ground; and it shall burn, and it shall not be quenched.
Et c'est pourquoi le Seigneur a dit: Voilà que ma vengeance et ma colère vont fondre sur ce lieu et sur les hommes, et sur le bétail, et sur tous les arbres de leurs champs, et sur les fruits de la terre; ma colère brûlera et ne s'éteindra point.
21 Thus hath said the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, Add your burnt-offerings unto your peace-sacrifices, and eat the flesh thereof.
Voici ce que dit le Seigneur: Multipliez vos holocaustes et vos victimes, et mangez-en les chairs:
22 For I spoke not with your fathers, and I commanded them not on the day of my bringing them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt-offering or sacrifice;
Parce que je n'ai point parlé à vos pères, et que je ne leur ai rien prescrit, le jour où je les ai ramenés de la terre d'Égypte, concernant les holocaustes et les sacrifices:
23 But this thing did I command them, saying, Hearken to my voice, and I will be unto you for a God, and ye shall be unto me for a people; and walk ye altogether on the way which I may command you, in order that it may be well unto you.
Mais je leur ai donné ce commandement: Écoutez ma parole, et je serai votre Dieu, et vous serez mon peuple; marchez dans toutes mes voies comme je vous l'ordonne, et vous serez bénis.
24 Yet they hearkened not, and inclined not their ear; but they walked in the counsels, in the stubbornness of their evil heart; and they went backward, and not forward:
Et ils ne m'ont point écouté, et ils ne m'ont point prêté l'oreille; mais ils ont couru après tous les désirs de leurs cœurs pervers, et ils ont reculé au lieu d'avancer,
25 Since the day that your fathers came forth out of the land of Egypt until this day; and I sent unto you all my servants the prophets, sending them daily in the morning early;
Depuis le jour où leurs pères sont sortis de l'Égypte jusqu'à ce jour. Et je vous ai envoyé mes serviteurs les prophètes de jour en jour dès l'aurore; je les leur ai envoyés,
26 Yet they hearkened not unto me, and inclined not their ear; but they hardened their neck; they did worse than their fathers.
Et ils ne m'ont point écouté, et ils ne m'ont point prêté l'oreille, et ils ont endurci leur tête plus que leurs pères.
27 And if thou speak unto them all these words, and they will not hearken to thee; and if thou call unto them, and they will not answer thee:
Or tu leur diras cette parole:
28 Then shalt thou say unto them, This is the nation that hearken not to the voice of the Lord their God, and accept not correction; lost is the truth, and is obliterated from their mouth.
Voici la nation qui n'a point écouté la voix du Seigneur, et n'a point profité des corrections; la foi est bannie de leur bouche.
29 Cut off thy flowing hair, and cast it away, and take up on mountain-tops a lamentation; for rejected hath the Lord and forsaken the generation of his wrath.
Coupe tes cheveux, et jette-les loin de toi; et mets une lamentation sur tes lèvres; car le Seigneur a réprouvé, il a répudié la race qui a fait ces choses.
30 For the children of Judah have done what is evil in my eyes, saith the Lord: they have set up their abominations in the house which is called by my name, to pollute it.
Car les enfants de Juda ont fait le mal devant moi, dit le Seigneur; ils ont introduit leurs abominations dans la maison où était invoqué mon nom, afin de le profaner.
31 And they have built the high-places of Thophet, which is in the valley of Ben-hinnom, to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire; which I had not commanded, and which never came into my mind.
Et ils ont bâti l'autel de Tapheth dans la vallée des fils d'Ennom pour y brûler par le feu leurs fils et leurs filles, sacrifice que je ne leur ai point prescrit et auquel je n'ai jamais songé en mon cœur.
32 Therefore, behold days are coming, saith the Lord, that it shall not be called any more Thophet, or The valley of Ben-hinnom, but The valley of slaughter: and they shall bury in Thophet, for want of room.
A cause de cela, voilà que les jours arrivent, dit le Seigneur, et on ne dira plus: L'autel de Tapheth, la vallée des fils d'Ennom; mais, la vallée des égorgés; et on inhumera les morts en Tapheth, parce qu'on n'aura point d'autre place.
33 And the carcasses of this people shall become food unto the fowls of the heavens, and unto the beasts of the earth, with none to chase them away.
Et les morts de ce peuple seront la proie des oiseaux du ciel et des bêtes fauves des champs; et nul ne sera là pour les chasser.
34 And I will cause to cease from the cities of Judah, and from the streets of Jerusalem, the voice of gladness, and the voice of joy, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride; for a desert shall the land become.
Et dans les villes de Juda et dans les rues de Jérusalem je ferai taire la voix de la joie et de l'allégresse, la voix du fiancé et de la fiancée; car toute la terre sera devenue une solitude.
