Jeremiah 41
1 Now it came to pass in the seventh month, that Ishmael the son of Nethanyah the son of Elishama', of the royal seed, and the chiefs of the king, even ten men with him, came unto Gedalyahu the son of Achikam to Mizpah; and they ate there bread together in Mizpah.
Parole du Seigneur qui vint à Jérémie quand Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone, et toute son armée et toute la terre qu'il gouvernait, combattirent contre Jérusalem et contre toutes les villes de Juda, disant:
2 Then arose Ishmael the son of Nethanyah, and the ten men that were with him, and smote Gedalyahu the son of Achikam the son of Shaphan with the sword, and put to death him, whom the king of Babylon had appointed governor over the land.
Voici ce que dit le Seigneur: Va trouver Sédécias, roi de Juda, et dis-lui: Ainsi parle le Seigneur: Cette ville sera livrée au roi de Babylone, et il la prendra, et il la brûlera par le feu.
3 And all the Jews that were with him, even with Gedalyahu, at Mizpah, and the Chaldeans that were found there, even the men of war, did Ishmael slay.
Et tu n'échapperas pas de ses mains; mais tu seras pris, tu seras livré entre ses mains, et tes yeux verront ses yeux, et tu iras à Babylone,
4 And it came to pass on the second day after he had put Gedalyahu to death, while no man knew of it,
Cependant, écoute la parole du Seigneur, Sédécias, roi de Juda; voici ce que dit le Seigneur:
5 That there came certain men from Shechem, from Shiloh, and from Samaria, eighty men [in all], having their beards shaven, and their clothes rent, and having cut themselves, with meat-offerings and frankincense in their hand, to bring the same to the house of the Lord.
Tu mourras en paix; et, comme on a pleuré tes pères qui ont régné avant toi, on te pleurera aussi, disant: Hélas! Seigneur! et à ta mort on se frappera la poitrine à cause de toi; car telle est la sentence que j'ai prononcée, dit le Seigneur.
6 And Ishmael the son of Nethanyah went forth from Mizpah to meet them, going along and weeping: and it came to pass as he met them, that he said unto them, Come to Gedalyahu the son of Achikam.
Ainsi Jérémie dit toutes ces paroles au roi Sédécias en Jérusalem.
7 And it happened, as they entered into the midst of the city, that Ishmael the son of Nethanyah slaughtered them, [and cast them] into the midst of the cistern, he, and the men that were with him.
Et l'armée du roi de Babylone combattait contre Jérusalem et contre les villes de Juda Lachis et Azica; car parmi les villes fortes de Juda celles-là n'étaient pas encore prises.
8 But ten men were found among them that said unto Ishmael, Slay us not; for we have some things hidden in the field, [such as] wheat, and barley, and oil, and honey. So he forbore, and slew them not in the midst of their brethren.
Voici la parole du Seigneur qui vint à Jérémie après que le roi Sédécias eut fait alliance avec le peuple pour publier la remise;
9 And the cistern wherein Ishmael cast all the corpses of the men, whom he had slain in company with Gedalyahu, is the same which king Assa had made on account of Ba'sha the king of Israel: this did Ishmael the son of Nethanyah fill with slain persons.
Afin que chacun affranchît son serviteur et sa servante, que l'Hébreu des deux sexes fût libre, et qu'il n'y eût plus de servitude en Juda.
10 Then did Ishmael carry away captive all the residue of the people that were in Mizpah, the king's daughters, and all the people that were remaining in Mizpah, whom Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard had entrusted to Gedalyahu the son of Achikam: and Ishmael the son of Nethanyah carried them away captive, and went off to pass over to the children of Ammon.
Et tous les grands changèrent d'avis, et tout le peuple qui était entré dans l'alliance, pour que chacun affranchît son serviteur et sa servante, et ils affranchirent
11 But when Jochanan the son of Kareach, and all the captains of the armies that were with him, heard of all the evil that Ishmael the son of Nethanyah had done:
Leurs serviteurs et leurs servantes.
12 Then did they take all the men, and went to fight with Ishmael the son of Nethanyah, and found him by the great water[-pool] that is near Gib'on.
Et la parole du Seigneur vint à Jérémie, disant:
13 And it came to pass, when all the people who were with Ishmael saw Jochanan the son of Kareach, and all the captains of the armies that were with him, that they were rejoiced.
Ainsi parle le Seigneur: J'ai fait alliance avec vos pères le jour où je les ai ramenés d'Égypte, de la maison de servitude, disant:
14 And all the people that Ishmael had carried away captive from Mizpah turned about and returned, and went unto Jochanan the son of Kareach.
Lorsque six années seront révolues, tu affranchiras ton frère hébreu qui t'aura été vendu, et qui aura travaillé six ans pour toi; alors tu le renverras libre. Et ils ne m'ont pas écouté, et ils n'ont point prêté l'oreille à mes commandements.
15 But Ishmael the son of Nethanyah escaped with eight men from the presence of Jochanan, and he went to the children of 'Ammon.
Et aujourd'hui ils se sont convertis, voulant faire ce qui est juste à mes yeux, pour que chacun proclamât la libération de son prochain; et ils ont fait alliance devant moi dans le temple où mon nom est invoqué.
16 Then took Jochanan the son of Kareach, and all the captains of the armies that were with him, all the remnant of the people whom he had recovered from Ishmael the son of Nethanyah, from Mizpah, after he had slain Gedalyah the son of Achikam, the adult males, the men of war, and the women, and the children, and the eunuchs, whom he had brought back from Gib'on;
Puis vous avez changé d'avis et vous avez profané mon nom en promettant que chacun affranchirait son serviteur et sa servante; et vous ne les avez point renvoyés libres, maîtres d'eux-mêmes; vous les avez gardés, serviteurs et servantes.
17 And they went, and remained in Geruth-Kimham, which is by Beth-lechem, to go to enter into Egypt,
A cause de cela, voici ce que dit le Seigneur: Vous ne m'avez point écouté pour proclamer la libération de vos frères. Et moi, voilà que je proclame votre expulsion par le glaive, par la peste et par la famine; je vous disperserai dans tous les royaumes de la terre.
18 Because of the Chaldeans; for they were afraid of them; because Ishmael the son of Nethanyah had slain Gedalyahu the son of Achikam, whom the king of Babylon had appointed governor over the land.
Et je livrerai les hommes qui ont rompu mon alliance, qui n'ont point maintenu l'alliance faite devant moi et confirmée par le veau qu'ils avaient préparé pour le sacrifice;
Ainsi que les princes de Juda, et les grands, et les prêtres, et le peuple.
Et je les livrerai à leurs ennemis; et leurs cadavres seront en pâture aux oiseaux du ciel et aux bêtes des champs.
Et je livrerai aux mains de leurs ennemis Sédécias, roi de Judée, et ses princes; car l'armée du roi de Babylone ramènera ceux qui s'étaient quelque temps éloignés d'eux.
Voilà ce que j'ordonne, dit le Seigneur: Je les ramènerai sur cette terre, et ils combattront contre elle, et ils la prendront, et ils la brûleront par le feu; et je ferai des villes de Juda un désert où il n'y aura point d'habitants.
