Jeremiah 38
1 And Shephatyah the son of Matthan, and Gedalyahu the son of Pashchur, and Juchal the son of Shelemyahu, and Pashchur the son of Malkiyah, heard the words that Jeremiah was speaking unto all the people, saying,
Men Sefatja, Mattans son, och Gedalja, Pashurs son, och Jukal, Selemjas son, och Pashur, Malkias son, hörde huru Jeremia talade till allt folket och sade:
2 Thus hath said the Lord, He that remaineth in this city shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence; but he that goeth forth to the Chaldeans shall live; and he shall have his life as a booty, and shall live.
"Så säger HERREN: Den som stannar kvar i denna stad, han skall dö genom svärd eller hunger eller pest, men den som giver sig åt kaldéerna, han skall få leva, ja, han skall vinna sitt liv såsom ett byte och få leva.
3 Thus hath said the Lord, This city shall surely be given up into the hand of the army of the king of Babylon, and he shall capture it.
Ty så säger HERREN: Denna stad skall förvisso bliva given i händerna på den babyloniske konungens här, och han skall intaga den.
4 Thereupon said the princes unto the king, We beseech thee, let this man be put to death; for the cause that he weakeneth the hands of the men of war that are yet left in this city, and the hands of all the people, by speaking such words unto them; for this man seeketh not the welfare of this people, but their hurt.
Då sade furstarna till konungen: "Denne man bör dödas, eftersom han gör folket modlöst, både det krigsfolk som ännu är kvar här i staden och jämväl allt det övrig: folket, i det att han talar sådan: ord till dem. Ty denne man söker icke folkets välfärd, utan dess olycka.
5 Then said king Zedekiah, Behold, he is in your hand; for the king is not able to do any thing against you.
Konung Sidkia svarade: "Välan han är i eder hand; ty konungen förmår intet mot eder."
6 Then did they take Jeremiah, and cast him into the pit of Malkiyahu the son of the king, that was in the court of the prison: and they let Jeremiah down with cords; but in the pit there was no water, but mire; so that Jeremiah sunk into the mire.
Då togo de Jeremia och kastad honom i konungasonen Malkias brunn på fängelsegården; de släppte Jeremia ditned med tåg. I brunnen var intet vatten, men dy, och Jeremia sjönk ned i dyn.
7 Now when 'Ebed-melech the Cushi, a eunuch who was in the king's house, heard that they had placed Jeremiah into the pit; while the king was sitting in the gate of Benjamin:
När nu etiopiern Ebed-Melek, en hovman, som befann sig i konungshuset, under det att konungen uppehöll sig i Benjaminsporten, fick höra att de hade sänkt Jeremia ned i brunnen,
8 'Ebed-melech went forth out of the king's house, and spoke to the king, saying,
begav han sig åstad från konungshuset och talade till konungen och sade:
9 My lord, O king, these men have done wrong in all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet, whom they have cast into the pit; and he would have had to die [as it is] in the place where he was for hunger; for there is no more bread in the city.
"Min herre konung, dessa män hava handlat illa i allt vad de hava gjort mot profeten Jeremia; ty de hava kastat honom i brunnen, där han strax måste dö av hunger, då nu intet bröd finnes i staden.
10 The king then commanded 'Ebed-melech the Cushi, saying, Take with thee from here thirty men, and bring up Jeremiah the prophet out of the pit, before he die.
Då bjöd konungen etiopiern Ebed-Melek och sade: "Tag med dig härifrån trettio män, och drag profeten Jeremia upp ur brunnen, innan han dör."
11 So 'Ebed-melech took the men with him, and went into the house of the king under the treasury, and took thence cast-off clothes and old rags, and let them down into the pit to Jeremiah by cords.
Så tog då Ebed-Melek männen med sig och begav sig till konungshuset, till rummet under skattkammaren, och hämtade därifrån trasor av sönderrivna och utslitna kläder och lät sänka ned dem med tåg till Jeremia i brunnen.
12 And Ebed-melech the Cushi said unto Jeremiah, Put, I pray, these cast-off clothes and old rags under thy arm-pits beneath the cords. And Jeremiah did so.
Och etiopiern Ebed-Melek sade till Jeremia: "Lägg trasorna av de sönderrivna och utslitna kläderna under dina armar, mellan dem och tågen." Och Jeremia gjorde så.
13 So they drew up Jeremiah with cords, and brought him up out of the pit: and Jeremiah remained in the court of the prison.
Sedan drogo de med tågen Jeremia upp ur brunnen. Men Jeremia måste stanna i fängelsegården.
14 Then sent king Zedekiah, and took Jeremiah the prophet unto him into the third entry that was in the house of the Lord; and the king said unto Jeremiah, I will ask thee something: conceal nothing from me.
Därefter sände konung Sidkia åstad och lät hämta profeten Jeremia till sig vid tredje ingången till HERRENS hus. Och konungen sade till Jeremia: "Jag vill fråga dig något dölj intet för mig."
15 Then said Jeremiah unto Zedekiah, If I should tell it unto thee, behold, thou wilt surely put me to death; and if I should give thee counsel, thou wilt not hearken unto me.
Jeremia sade till Sidkia: "Om jag säger dig något, så kommer du förvisso att låta döda mig; och om jag giver dig ett råd, så hör du icke på mig."
16 So king Zedekiah swore unto Jeremiah secretly, saying, As the Lord liveth, who hath made for us this soul, I will not put thee to death, nor will I give thee up into the hand of these men that seek thy life.
Då gav konung Sidkia Jeremia sin ed, hemligen, och sade: "Så sant HERREN lever, han som har givit oss detta vårt liv: jag skall icke låta döda dig, ej heller skall jag lämna dig i händerna på dessa män som stå efter ditt liv."
17 Then said Jeremiah unto Zedekiah, Thus hath said the Lord, the God of hosts, the God of Israel, If thou wilt indeed go forth unto the princes of the king of Babylon, then shall thy soul live, and this city shall not be burnt with fire; and thou shalt live, thou with thy household;
Då sade Jeremia till Sidkia: "Så säger HERREN, härskarornas Gud, Israels Gud: Om du giver dig åt den babyloniske konungens furstar, så skall du få leva, och denna stad skall då icke bliva uppbränd i eld, utan du och ditt hus skolen få leva.
18 But if thou wilt not go forth to the princes of the king of Babylon, then shall this city be given up into the hand of the Chaldeans, and they shall burn it with fire, and thou thyself shalt not escape out of their hand.
Men om du icke giver dig åt den babyloniske konungens furstar, då skall denna stad bliva given i kaldéernas hand, och de skola bränna upp den i eld, och du själv skall icke undkomma deras hand."
19 Then said king Zedekiah unto Jeremiah, I am in dread of the Jews that have run away to the Chaldeans, lest these deliver me into their hand, and they might ill-use me.
Konung Sidkia svarade Jeremia: "Jag rädes för de judar som hava gått över till kaldéerna; kanhända skall man lämna mig i deras händer, och de skola då hantera mig skändligt."
20 But Jeremiah said, They will not give [thee] up. Obey, I beseech thee, the voice of the Lord, in that which I speak unto thee; so it shall be well unto thee, and thy soul shall live.
Jeremia sade: "Man skall icke göra det. Hör blott HERRENS röst i vad jag säger dig, så skall det gå dig väl, och du skall få leva.
21 But if thou refuse to go forth, this is the word that the Lord hath shown me:
Men om du vägrar att giva dig, så är detta vad HERREN har uppenbarat för mig:
22 And behold, all the women that are left in the house of the king of Judah shall be led forth to the princes of the king of Babylon; and these women shall say, “They have enticed, and have overpersuaded thee—thy men that should have sought thy welfare; thy feet are [now] sunk in the mire, and they have withdrawn themselves backward.”
Se, alla de kvinnor som äro kvar i Juda konungs hus skola då föras ut till den babyloniske konungens furstar; och kvinnorna skola klaga: 'Dina vänner sökte förleda dig, och de fingo makt med dig. Dina fötter fastnade i dyn; då drogo de sig undan'
23 And all thy wives and thy children shall they bring out to the Chaldeans; and thou thyself shalt not escape out of their hand; for by the hand of the king of Babylon shalt thou be caught; and this city wilt thou cause to be burnt with fire.
Och alla dina hustrur och dina barn skall man föra ut till kaldéerna, och du själv skall icke undkomma deras hand, utan skall varda gripen av den babyloniske konungens hand och bliva en orsak till att denna stad brännes upp i eld."
24 Then said Zedekiah unto Jeremiah, Let no man know of these words, that thou mayest not die.
Då sade Sidkia till Jeremia: "Låt ingen få veta vad här har blivit talat; eljest måste du dö.
25 And if the princes should hear that I have spoken with thee, and they come unto thee, and say unto thee, tell us, we pray thee, what thou hast spoken unto the king, conceal it not from us, and we will not put thee to death; also what the king hath spoken unto thee:
Och om furstarna få höra att jag har talat med dig, och de komma till dig och säga till dig: 'Låt oss veta vad du har sagt till konungen; dölj intet för oss, så skola vi icke döda dig; säg oss ock vad konungen har sagt till dig' --
26 Then shalt thou say unto them, I presented my humble supplication before the king, that he would not send me back to the house of Jonathan, to die there.
då skall du svara dem: 'Jag bönföll inför konungen att han icke skulle sända mig tillbaka till Jonatans hus för att dö där.'"
27 And all the princes came unto Jeremiah, and asked him: and he told them in accordance with all these words that the king had commanded. And they turned away silent from him; for the matter had not been made public.
Och alla furstarna kommo till Jeremia och frågade honom; men han svarade dem alldeles såsom konungen hade bjudit honom. Då tego de och gingo bort ifrån honom, eftersom ingen hade hört huru det verkligen hade gått till.
28 And Jeremiah remained in the court of the prison until the day that Jerusalem was taken. And it came to pass when Jerusalem was captured,
Men Jeremia fick stanna i fängelsegården ända till den dag då Jerusalem blev intaget.
