Jeremiah 37
1 And Zedekiah the son of Josiah reigned as king in the place of Conyahu the son of Jehoyakim, whom Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon made king in the land of Judah.
योशियाह का पुत्र सीदकियाहू, जिसे बाबेल के राजा नबूकदनेज्ज़र ने यहूदिया पर राजा नियुक्त किया था; यहोइयाकिम के पुत्र कोनियाह के स्थान पर राज्य-काल कर रहा था.
2 But neither he, nor his servants, nor the people of the land, did hearken unto the words of the Lord, which he had spoken by means of Jeremiah the prophet.
किंतु न तो उसने, न उसके सेवकों ने और न देश की प्रजा ने याहवेह की उन चेतावनियों को महत्व दिया, जो याहवेह ने भविष्यद्वक्ता येरेमियाह के द्वारा उन्हें दी थी.
3 And king Zedekiah sent Jehuchal the son of Shelemyah and Zephanyahu the son of Ma'asseyah the priest unto Jeremiah the prophet, saying, Pray now in our behalf unto the Lord our God.
फिर भी, राजा सीदकियाहू ने शेलेमियाह के पुत्र यहूकुल को तथा मआसेइयाह के पुत्र पुरोहित ज़ेफनियाह को भविष्यद्वक्ता येरेमियाह के पास इस अनुरोध के साथ भेजा: “कृपा कर याहवेह हमारे परमेश्वर से हमारे लिए बिनती कीजिए.”
4 Now Jeremiah came and went out among the people; and they put him not into the prison-house.
येरेमियाह अब तक बंदी नहीं बनाए गए थे, इसलिये वे अब भी लोगों के बीच आने और जाने के लिए स्वतंत्र थे.
5 But the army of Pharaoh was come forth out of Egypt: and when the Chaldeans that besieged Jerusalem heard the report of them, they withdrew from Jerusalem.
इसी समय मिस्र से फ़रोह की सेना प्रस्थित हो चुकी थी, जैसे ही कसदी सेना जो येरूशलेम की घेराबंदी किए हुए थी, उसे यह समाचार प्राप्त हुआ, उसने येरूशलेम से अपनी घेराबंदी उठा ली.
6 Then came the word of the Lord unto Jeremiah the prophet, saying,
तब भविष्यद्वक्ता येरेमियाह को याहवेह की ओर से यह संदेश प्रगट किया गया:
7 Thus hath said the Lord, the God of Israel, Thus shall ye say to the king of Judah, that hath sent you unto me to inquire of me, Behold, Pharaoh's army, which is come forth to help you, returneth into its own land to Egypt.
“इस्राएल के परमेश्वर याहवेह का संदेश यह है: तुम्हें यहूदिया के राजा से यह कहना होगा, जिसने तुम्हें मेरे पास इसलिये भेजा है कि वह मेरी बातें ज्ञात कर सके, ‘तुम यह देख लेना, कि तुम्हारी सहायता के लिए आई हुई फ़रोह की सेना अपने देश मिस्र को लौट जाएगी.
8 But the Chaldeans will come again, and fight against this city, and capture it, and burn it with fire.
तब कसदी भी लौट आएंगे तथा इस नगर पर आक्रमण करेंगे; इसे अधीन कर लेंगे तथा इसे भस्म कर देंगे.’
9 Thus hath said the Lord, Deceive not yourselves, saying, The Chaldeans will certainly go away from us; for they will not go away.
“यह याहवेह का आदेश है: निःसंदेह कसदी यहां से चले ही जाएंगे, ‘यह कहकर स्वयं को धोखे में न रखो.’ क्योंकि वे यहां से जाएंगे ही नहीं!
10 For if even ye had smitten the whole army of the Chaldeans that fight against you, and there remained among them [only such] men as are pierced through: yet should they rise up, every man in his tent, and burn this city with fire.
क्योंकि यदि तुमने संपूर्ण कसदी सेना को पराजित भी कर दिया होता, जो तुमसे युद्धरत थी तथा उनके तंबुओं में मात्र निराश सैनिक ही शेष रह गए होते, वे निराश सैनिक ही उठेंगे और इस नगर को भस्म कर देंगे.”
11 And it came to pass, when the army of the Chaldeans had withdrawn from Jerusalem because of the army of Pharaoh,
जब फ़रोह की सेना के येरूशलेम की ओर आने का समाचार कसदी सेना ने सुना, उन्होंने येरूशलेम से अपनी घेराबंदी उठा ली,
12 That Jeremiah went forth out of Jerusalem to go into the land of Benjamin, to make his escape thence in the midst of the people.
तब येरेमियाह बिन्यामिन प्रदेश में कुछ लोगों से पैतृक संपत्ति अभिग्रहण के उद्देश्य से येरूशलेम से प्रस्थित हुए.
13 But as he was in the gate of Benjamin, there was there a captain of the guardsmen, whose name was Yiriyah, the son of Shelemyah, the son of Chananyah; and he seized hold of Jeremiah the prophet, saying, Thou runnest away to the Chaldeans.
जब वह बिन्यामिन प्रवेश द्वार पर पहुंचे, उन्हें वहां हाननियाह के पौत्र, शेलेमियाह के पुत्र, इरियाह नामक प्रधानप्रहरी ने बंदी बना लिया, उसने भविष्यद्वक्ता येरेमियाह को संबोधित कर कहा, “अच्छा, तुम कसदियों से भेंट करने जा रहे हो!”
14 But Jeremiah said, It is false; I am not running away to the Chaldeans. But he listened not to him; and Yiriyah seized hold of Jeremiah, and brought him to the princes.
येरेमियाह ने उसे उत्तर दिया, “झूठ! मैं कसदियों से भेंट करने नहीं जा रहा.” इरियाह ने येरेमियाह के स्पष्टीकरण का विश्वास नहीं किया, उसने येरेमियाह को बंदी बनाकर अधिकारियों के समक्ष प्रस्तुत किया.
15 Thereupon were the princes wroth with Jeremiah, and struck him, and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe; for that had they made into a prison-house.
अधिकारी येरेमियाह से रुष्ट हो गए और उन्होंने येरेमियाह को पिटवा कर लिपिक योनातन के निवास में बंदी बनाकर रख दिया, वस्तुतः योनातन का निवास स्थान कारागार में परिवर्तित कर दिया गया था.
16 When Jeremiah had been placed in the dungeon, within the traders' shops, where Jeremiah remained many days:
येरेमियाह को पातालगृह में बंदी बनाकर रखा गया था अर्थात् एक तलवार कक्ष में, येरेमियाह इस स्थान पर दीर्घ काल तक रहे.
17 King Zedekiah sent, and had him taken out, and the king asked him in his house in secret, and said, “Is there any word from the Lord?” And Jeremiah said, “There is:” and he said, Into the hand of the king of Babylon shalt thou be given up.
राजा सीदकियाहू ने येरेमियाह को बंदीगृह से मुक्त करवाया और महलों में बुलवाया तथा उनसे गुप्त में प्रश्न किया, “क्या याहवेह की ओर से कोई संदेश भेजा गया है?” येरेमियाह ने राजा को उत्तर दिया, “जी हां,” है, फिर उन्होंने आगे यह भी कहा: “आप बाबेल के राजा के हाथ में सौंप दिए जाएंगे.”
18 And Jeremiah said unto king Zedekiah, What have I sinned against thee, and against thy servants, and against this people, that ye have put me into the prison-house?
इसके सिवा येरेमियाह ने राजा से पूछा, “मैंने आपके विरुद्ध, आपके सेवकों के विरुद्ध अथवा इस प्रजा के विरुद्ध ऐसा कौन सा पाप कर दिया है, जो आपने मुझे बंदी बना रखा है?
19 And where are now your prophets who have prophesied unto you, saying, The king of Babylon will not come against you, and against this land?
इस समय आपके वे भविष्यद्वक्ता कहां हैं, जिन्होंने आपके लिए यह भविष्यवाणी की थी, ‘बाबेल का राजा न तो आप पर आक्रमण करेगा न इस देश पर’?
20 Yet now, do but hear, I pray thee, O my lord the king: let me offer my humble supplication, I pray thee, before thee, that thou wilt not make me return to the house of Jonathan the scribe, lest I die there.
किंतु अब, महाराज, मेरे स्वामी, कृपा कर मेरा गिड़गिड़ाना सुन लीजिए: अब मुझे लिपिक योनातन के आवास पर न भेजिए, कि वहीं मेरी मृत्यु हो जाए.”
21 Then commanded king Zedekiah that they should put Jeremiah in ward in the court of the prison, and that they should give him a loaf of bread for every day out of the bakers' street, until all the bread was spent out of the city. Thus Jeremiah remained in the court of the prison.
तब राजा ने आदेश दिया और येरेमियाह को पहरे के आंगन में रखने का प्रबंध किया गया, वहां उन्हें प्रतिदिन पाकशाला गली से रोटी प्रदान की जाती रही, यह तब तक होता रहा जब तक नगर में रोटी का निर्माण करना संभव रहा. वैसे येरेमियाह पहरे के आंगन में ही निवास करते रहे.
