Jeremiah 37
1 And Zedekiah the son of Josiah reigned as king in the place of Conyahu the son of Jehoyakim, whom Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon made king in the land of Judah.
ব্যাবিলনের রাজা নেবুখাদনেজার, যোশিয়ের পুত্র সিদিকিয়কে যিহূদার রাজা করেন। তিনি যিহোয়াকীমের পুত্র যিহোয়াখীনের স্থানে রাজত্ব করেন।
2 But neither he, nor his servants, nor the people of the land, did hearken unto the words of the Lord, which he had spoken by means of Jeremiah the prophet.
তিনি, তাঁর পরিচারকেরা বা দেশের অন্য কোনো লোক, ভাববাদী যিরমিয়ের মাধ্যমে কথিত সদাপ্রভুর বাক্যের প্রতি কোনো মনোযোগ দেননি।
3 And king Zedekiah sent Jehuchal the son of Shelemyah and Zephanyahu the son of Ma'asseyah the priest unto Jeremiah the prophet, saying, Pray now in our behalf unto the Lord our God.
তবুও, রাজা সিদিকিয়, শেলেমিয়ের পুত্র যিহূখলকে, মাসেয়ের পুত্র যাজক সফনিয়কে, এই বার্তা দিয়ে ভাববাদী যিরমিয়ের কাছে প্রেরণ করলেন: “অনুগ্রহ করে আপনি, আমাদের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভুর কাছে আমাদের জন্য প্রার্থনা করুন।”
4 Now Jeremiah came and went out among the people; and they put him not into the prison-house.
সেই সময় যিরমিয় লোকদের কাছে যাওয়া-আসার জন্য মুক্ত ছিলেন, কারণ তখনও পর্যন্ত তিনি কারাগারে বদ্ধ হননি।
5 But the army of Pharaoh was come forth out of Egypt: and when the Chaldeans that besieged Jerusalem heard the report of them, they withdrew from Jerusalem.
ফরৌণের সৈন্যদল মিশর থেকে সমরাভিযানে বের হয়েছে, জেরুশালেম অবরোধকারী ব্যাবিলনীয়েরা যখন এই কথা শুনল, তারা জেরুশালেম ছেড়ে চলে গেল।
6 Then came the word of the Lord unto Jeremiah the prophet, saying,
তারপর, ভাববাদী যিরমিয়ের কাছে সদাপ্রভুর বাক্য উপস্থিত হল:
7 Thus hath said the Lord, the God of Israel, Thus shall ye say to the king of Judah, that hath sent you unto me to inquire of me, Behold, Pharaoh's army, which is come forth to help you, returneth into its own land to Egypt.
“সদাপ্রভু, ইস্রায়েলের ঈশ্বর, এই কথা বলেন: যে আমার কাছে অনুসন্ধান করতে পাঠিয়েছে, সেই যিহূদার রাজাকে তুমি বলো, ‘ফরৌণের যে সৈন্যদল তোমাকে সাহায্য করার জন্য সমরাভিযান করেছে, তারা তাদের স্বদেশ মিশরে ফিরে যাবে।
8 But the Chaldeans will come again, and fight against this city, and capture it, and burn it with fire.
তারপর ব্যাবিলনীয়েরা ফিরে আসবে এবং এই নগর আক্রমণ করবে; তারা এই নগর অধিকার করে আগুনে পুড়িয়ে দেবে।’
9 Thus hath said the Lord, Deceive not yourselves, saying, The Chaldeans will certainly go away from us; for they will not go away.
“সদাপ্রভু এই কথা বলেন, তোমরা এই কথা বলে নিজেদের ঠকিয়ো না, ‘ব্যাবিলনীয়েরা নিশ্চয়ই আমাদের ছেড়ে চলে যাবে।’ না, তারা যাবে না!
10 For if even ye had smitten the whole army of the Chaldeans that fight against you, and there remained among them [only such] men as are pierced through: yet should they rise up, every man in his tent, and burn this city with fire.
যদিও তোমরা সমস্ত ব্যাবিলনীয় সৈন্যদলকে পরাস্ত করতে, যারা তোমাদের আক্রমণ করছে এবং কেবলমাত্র আহত লোকেরা তাদের শিবিরে অবস্থান করত, তবুও তারাই বের হয়ে এসে এই নগর পুড়িয়ে দিত।”
11 And it came to pass, when the army of the Chaldeans had withdrawn from Jerusalem because of the army of Pharaoh,
ফরৌণের সৈন্যদলের কারণে ব্যাবিলনীয় সৈন্যেরা জেরুশালেম ছেড়ে চলে গেলে পর,
12 That Jeremiah went forth out of Jerusalem to go into the land of Benjamin, to make his escape thence in the midst of the people.
যিরমিয় নগর ত্যাগ করে বিন্যামীন গোষ্ঠীভুক্ত এলাকায় তাঁর সম্পত্তির দখল নেওয়ার জন্য সেখানকার লোকদের কাছে রওনা হলেন।
13 But as he was in the gate of Benjamin, there was there a captain of the guardsmen, whose name was Yiriyah, the son of Shelemyah, the son of Chananyah; and he seized hold of Jeremiah the prophet, saying, Thou runnest away to the Chaldeans.
কিন্তু যখন তিনি বিন্যামীন-দ্বারে পৌঁছালেন, তখন হনানিয়ের পুত্র, শেলিমিয়ের পুত্র, রক্ষীদলের সেনাপতি যিরিয় তাঁকে গ্রেপ্তার করলেন এবং বললেন, “আপনি ব্যাবিলনীয়দের পক্ষে যোগ দিতে যাচ্ছেন!”
14 But Jeremiah said, It is false; I am not running away to the Chaldeans. But he listened not to him; and Yiriyah seized hold of Jeremiah, and brought him to the princes.
যিরমিয় বললেন, “সেই কথা সত্যি নয়। আমি ব্যাবিলনীয়দের পক্ষে যোগ দিতে যাচ্ছি না।” কিন্তু যিরিয় তাঁর কথা শুনতে চাইলেন না; পরিবর্তে, তিনি যিরমিয়কে গ্রেপ্তার করে রাজকর্মচারীদের কাছে নিয়ে গেলেন।
15 Thereupon were the princes wroth with Jeremiah, and struck him, and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe; for that had they made into a prison-house.
তারা যিরমিয়ের প্রতি ক্রুদ্ধ হল। তারা তাঁকে প্রহার করে সচিব যোনাথনের গৃহে কারাবন্দি করল। তারা সেই গৃহকে কারাগারে পরিণত করেছিল।
16 When Jeremiah had been placed in the dungeon, within the traders' shops, where Jeremiah remained many days:
যিরমিয়কে এক ভূগর্ভস্থ অন্ধকূপে রাখা হল। সেখানে তিনি অনেক দিন থাকলেন।
17 King Zedekiah sent, and had him taken out, and the king asked him in his house in secret, and said, “Is there any word from the Lord?” And Jeremiah said, “There is:” and he said, Into the hand of the king of Babylon shalt thou be given up.
তারপর, রাজা সিদিকিয় লোক পাঠিয়ে তাঁকে রাজপ্রাসাদে নিয়ে এলেন। সেখানে তিনি তাঁকে গোপনে জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, “সদাপ্রভুর কাছ থেকে কোনো বাক্য আছে কি?” যিরমিয় উত্তর দিলেন, “হ্যাঁ, আপনি ব্যাবিলনের রাজার হাতে সমর্পিত হবেন।”
18 And Jeremiah said unto king Zedekiah, What have I sinned against thee, and against thy servants, and against this people, that ye have put me into the prison-house?
তারপর যিরমিয়, রাজা সিদিকিয়কে বললেন, “আমি আপনার বা আপনার কর্মচারীদের বা এই লোকদের বিরুদ্ধে কী অপরাধ করেছি যে, আপনি আমাকে কারারুদ্ধ করেছেন?
19 And where are now your prophets who have prophesied unto you, saying, The king of Babylon will not come against you, and against this land?
আপনার সেই ভাববাদীরা কোথায়, যারা ভাব বাক্য করেছিল, ‘ব্যাবিলনের রাজা আপনাকে বা এই দেশকে আক্রমণ করবেন না’?
20 Yet now, do but hear, I pray thee, O my lord the king: let me offer my humble supplication, I pray thee, before thee, that thou wilt not make me return to the house of Jonathan the scribe, lest I die there.
কিন্তু এখন, আমার প্রভু রাজা, আপনি দয়া করে শুনুন। আপনার কাছে আমাকে এই অনুরোধ রাখতে দিন, আপনি আমাকে সচিব যোনাথনের গৃহে আর ফেরত পাঠাবেন না, নইলে আমি সেখানে মারা পড়ব।”
21 Then commanded king Zedekiah that they should put Jeremiah in ward in the court of the prison, and that they should give him a loaf of bread for every day out of the bakers' street, until all the bread was spent out of the city. Thus Jeremiah remained in the court of the prison.
রাজা সিদিকিয় তখন আদেশ দিলেন, যিরমিয়কে রক্ষীদের প্রাঙ্গণে রাখার জন্য এবং বললেন, তাকে যেন রুটিওয়ালাদের সরণি থেকে প্রতিদিন রুটি দেওয়া হয়, যতক্ষণ না নগর থেকে সমস্ত রুটি শেষ হয়। এইভাবে যিরমিয় রক্ষীদের প্রাঙ্গণে থেকে গেলেন।
