Jeremiah 29
1 And these are the words of the letter that Jeremiah the prophet sent from Jerusalem unto the residue of the elders of the exiles, and to the priests, and to the prophets, and to all the people whom Nebuchadnezzar had carried away into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon;
Giê-rê-mi viết thư từ Giê-ru-sa-lem gửi cho các trưởng lão, các thầy tế lễ, các tiên tri, và tất cả người bị Vua Nê-bu-cát-nết-sa bắt lưu đày sang Ba-by-lôn.
2 (After king Jechonyah and the queen-mother, and the court-officers, the princes of Judah and Jerusalem, and the carpenters, and the locksmiths, were departed from Jerusalem; )
Thư viết sau khi Vua Giê-cô-nia, bà thái hậu, các quan cao cấp, và các quan chức khác của Giu-đa, cùng tất cả thợ điêu khắc và thợ thủ công đã bị đày khỏi Giê-ru-sa-lem.
3 By the hand of El'assah the son of Shaphan, and Gemaryah the son of Chilkiyah, [whom Zedekiah the king of Judah sent unto Babylon to Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, ] saying,
Ông gửi thư này cho Ê-lê-a-sa, con Sa-phan, và Ghê-ma-ria, con Hinh-kia khi họ được Vua Sê-đê-kia sai làm sứ giả đến Ba-by-lôn gặp Vua Nê-bu-cát-nết-sa. Thư của Giê-rê-mi viết như sau:
4 Thus hath said the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, unto all the exiles, whom I have caused to be carried into exile from Jerusalem unto Babylon,
Đây là điều Chúa Hằng Hữu Vạn Quân, Đức Chúa Trời của Ít-ra-ên, phán với tất cả người bị Ngài lưu đày từ Giê-ru-sa-lem qua xứ Ba-by-lôn:
5 Build ye houses, and dwell therein; and plant gardens, and eat their fruit;
“Hãy xây nhà, và ở tại đó. Hãy trồng vườn cây mà ăn trái.
6 Take ye wives, and beget sons and daughters; and take wives for your sons, and give your daughters to husbands, that they may bear sons and daughters; that ye may multiply there, and not be diminished.
Hãy kết hôn và sinh con. Hãy tìm người phối ngẫu cho chúng, nhờ đó các con sẽ có thêm nhiều con cháu. Cứ gia tăng! Đừng giảm sút!
7 And seek the welfare of the city whither I have banished you, and pray in its behalf unto the Lord; for in its welfare shall ye fare well.
Hãy tìm cầu hòa bình cho thành Ta đã sai các ngươi đến. Hãy cầu Chúa Hằng Hữu thay cho dân chúng trong thành vì sự bình an của các con tùy thuộc nơi hòa bình trong thành ấy.”
8 For thus hath said the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, Let not your prophets, that are in the midst of you, and your diviners, deceive you, and do not hearken to your dreams which ye cause to be dreamt;
Đây là điều Chúa Hằng Hữu Vạn Quân, Đức Chúa Trời của Ít-ra-ên, phán: “Đừng để các tiên tri giả và các thầy bói ở với các con trong xứ Ba-by-lôn lừa gạt. Đừng nghe những điềm báo mộng của chúng,
9 For with falsehood do they prophesy unto you in my name: I have not sent them, saith the Lord.
vì chúng mạo Danh Ta nói tiên tri. Ta không bao giờ sai phái chúng,” Chúa Hằng Hữu phán vậy.
10 For thus hath said the Lord, Because only after the accomplishment of seventy years for Babylon, will I visit you, and fulfill respecting you my good word, in causing you to return to this place.
Đây là điều Chúa Hằng Hữu phán: “Các con sẽ ở tại Ba-by-lôn trong bảy mươi năm. Nhưng rồi Ta sẽ đến và thực hiện mọi điều Ta đã hứa, và Ta sẽ đem các con trở về quê hương.
11 For I alone know the thoughts that I entertain respecting you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you a [happy] future and hope.
Vì Ta biết chương trình Ta hoạch định cho các con,” Chúa Hằng Hữu phán. “Đó là chương trình thịnh vượng, không phải là tai họa, các con có một tương lai sáng sủa và một niềm hy vọng.
12 And you will call upon me, and ye will go and will pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you.
Trong những ngày ấy, khi các con cầu khẩn Ta, Ta sẽ nghe.
13 And ye will seek me, and shall find me, for ye will search for me with all your heart.
Nếu các con tìm kiếm Ta hết lòng, các con sẽ gặp được Ta.”
14 And I will be found of you, saith the Lord; and I will bring back your captivity, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places whither I have driven you, saith the Lord; and I will cause you to return unto the place whence I have banished you.
Chúa Hằng Hữu phán: “Các con sẽ tìm gặp Ta, và Ta sẽ chấm dứt sự lưu đày và khôi phục vận nước các con. Ta sẽ tập họp các con từ tất cả quốc gia mà Ta đã đày các con đến, rồi sẽ đem các con về nhà trên chính xứ sở của các con.”
15 Because ye have said, The Lord hath raised us up prophets in Babylon.
Hiện nay, các người cho rằng Chúa Hằng Hữu đã dấy lên những tiên tri cho các người ngay tại Ba-by-lôn.
16 But thus hath said the Lord concerning the king that sitteth upon the throne of David, and concerning all the people that dwell in this city, your brethren that are not gone forth with you into exile;
Cho nên, đây là điều Chúa Hằng Hữu phán về vua đang ngự trên ngai Đa-vít và tất cả người nào vẫn đang sống tại đây trong Giê-ru-sa-lem—tức là những bà con họ hàng không bị lưu đày sang Ba-by-lôn.
17 Thus hath said the Lord of hosts, Behold, I will send out against them the sword, the famine, and the pestilence; and I will render them like the detestable figs, that cannot be eaten, from being so bad.
Đây là điều Chúa Hằng Hữu Vạn Quân phán: “Ta sẽ giáng chiến tranh, đói kém, và dịch bệnh trên chúng và khiến chúng giống như những trái vả xấu, hư thối đến nỗi không ăn được.
18 And I will pursue after them with the sword, with the famine, and with the pestilence, and will make them a horror unto all the kingdoms of the earth, a curse, and an astonishment, and a derision, and a disgrace, among all the nations whither I have driven them;
Phải, Ta sẽ lấy chiến tranh, đói kém, và dịch bệnh đuổi theo chúng, và Ta sẽ phân tán chúng khắp nơi trên đất. Trong mỗi nước mà Ta đã đày chúng, Ta sẽ khiến chúng bị nguyền rủa, ghê tởm, khinh rẻ, và chế nhạo.
19 For the reason that they have not hearkened to my words, saith the Lord, since I sent unto them my servants the prophets, causing them to rise up early and sending them; but ye would not hear, saith the Lord.
Vì chúng không chịu nghe lời Ta, dù Ta đã liên tục truyền bảo qua các tiên tri Ta sai đến. Và các con từng bị lưu đày cũng không muốn lắng nghe,” Chúa Hằng Hữu phán vậy.
20 But ye—hear ye the word of the Lord, all ye exiles whom I have sent away from Jerusalem to Babylon.
Vì thế, hãy lắng nghe sứ điệp của Chúa Hằng Hữu, hỡi các lưu dân tại Ba-by-lôn.
21 Thus hath said the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, concerning Achab the son of Kolayah, and of Zedekiah the son of Ma'asseyah, who prophesy unto you in my name falsehood, Behold, I will give them up into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon: and he shall smite them before your eyes.
Đây là điều Chúa Hằng Hữu Vạn Quân, Đức Chúa Trời của Ít-ra-ên, phán về các tiên tri của các ngươi—tức A-háp, con Cô-la-gia, và Sê-đê-kia, con Ma-a-xê-gia—là những người mạo Danh Chúa nói tiên tri: “Ta sẽ nộp chúng cho Nê-bu-cát-nết-sa xử tử ngay trước mắt các con.
22 And a curse shall be derived from them for all the exiles of Judah who are in Babylon, saying, “May the Lord make thee like Zedekiah and like Achab, whom the king of Babylon roasted in the fire;”
Số phận thê thảm của chúng sẽ trở thành châm biếm, vì thế những người Giu-đa lưu đày sẽ dùng chuyện này làm câu nguyền rủa: ‘Cầu Chúa Hằng Hữu khiến ngươi như Sê-đê-kia và A-háp, chúng đã bị vua Ba-by-lôn thiêu sống!’
23 Because they have done scandalous deeds in Israel, and have committed adultery with the wives of their neighbors, and have spoken in my name falsehood, which I had not commanded them; whereas I am the one that know, and am the witness, saith the Lord.
Vì hai người này phạm tội ghê tởm giữa vòng dân Ta. Chúng đã thông dâm với vợ người lân cận và mạo Danh Ta nói điều giả dối, nói những điều Ta không hề truyền dạy. Ta là nhân chứng cho việc này. Ta, Chúa Hằng Hữu, đã phán vậy.”
24 And to Shema'yahu the Nechelamite shalt thou say, as followeth,
Chúa Hằng Hữu ban sứ điệp này cho Sê-ma-gia ở Nê-hê-lam tại Ba-by-lôn:
25 Thus hath said the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, saying, Because thou hast sent in thy name letters unto all the people that are at Jerusalem, and to Zephanyah the son of Ma'asseyah the priest, and to all the priests, saying,
“Đây là điều Chúa Hằng Hữu Vạn Quân, Đức Chúa Trời của Ít-ra-ên, phán: Ngươi đã tự ý viết thư cho Sô-phô-ni, con Thầy Tế lễ Ma-a-xê-gia, tất cả thầy tế lễ, và toàn dân trong Giê-ru-sa-lem. Ngươi đã viết cho Sô-phô-ni như sau:
26 The Lord hath appointed thee priest in the place of Jehoyada' the priest, that ye should be superintendents in the house of the Lord, for every man that is mad, and that prophesieth, that thou shouldst put him in the stocks, and in prison:
Chúa Hằng Hữu đã lập ông làm thầy tế lễ thay thế Giê-hô-gia-đa, làm quản đốc nhà Chúa Hằng Hữu. Trách nhiệm của ông là trừng trị bọn tiên tri ngông cuồng và đe dọa sẽ gông cùm các tiên tri ấy.
27 And now, why hast thou not rebuked Jeremiah of 'Anathoth, who prophesieth to you?
Thế sao ông không làm gì với Giê-rê-mi, người A-na-tốt, là người nói tiên tri cho ông?
28 For the reason that he hath sent unto us to Babylon saying, It will last a long time: build ye houses, and dwell therein; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit thereof.
Giê-rê-mi có gửi thư cho các lưu dân ở Ba-by-lôn, bảo rằng cuộc lưu đày của chúng ta còn lâu dài. Hắn nói: ‘Hãy xây nhà mà ở. Hãy trồng vườn cây mà ăn trái.’”
29 And Zephanyah the priest read the letter before the ears of Jeremiah the prophet.
Nhưng khi Thầy Tế lễ Sô-phô-ni nhận thư của Sê-ma-gia, ông liền đem thư đến cho Giê-rê-mi và đọc thư.
30 Then came the word of the Lord unto Jeremiah, saying,
Khi ấy Chúa Hằng Hữu ban sứ điệp này cho Giê-rê-mi:
31 Send to all the exiles, saying, Thus hath said the Lord concerning Shema'yah the Nechlamite, Whereas Shema'yah hath prophesied unto you, while I have not sent him, and he hath caused you to rely on a falsehood:
“Hãy gửi thư cho tất cả người lưu đày trong Ba-by-lôn. Nói rằng: ‘Đây là điều Chúa Hằng Hữu phán liên quan đến Sê-ma-gia, người Nê-hê-lam: Từ khi nó dám mạo Danh Ta mà nói tiên tri giả dối để lừa gạt các con mặc dù Ta chưa từng sai phái nó,
32 Therefore thus hath said the Lord, Behold, I will inflict punishment on Shema'yah the Nechlamite, and on his seed; he shall not have a man to dwell in the midst of this people; and he shall not behold the good that I am doing for my people, saith the Lord; because he hath spoken revolt against the Lord.
nên Ta sẽ hình phạt nó và gia đình nó. Không ai trong con cháu nó được trông thấy phước lành Ta dành cho dân Ta, vì nó dám xúi giục các con nổi loạn chống lại Ta. Ta, Chúa Hằng Hữu, phán vậy!’”
