Jeremiah 21
1 The word which came unto Jeremiah from the Lord, when king Zedekiah sent unto him Pashchur the son of Malkiyah, and Zephanyah the son of Ma'asseyah the priest, saying,
Palabra que llegó a Jeremías de parte de Yahvé, cuando el rey Sedecías le envió a decir por Fasur, hijo de Malaquías, y por Sofonías, hijo del sacerdote Maasías:
2 Inquire, I pray thee, in our behalf of the Lord; for Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon maketh war against us; peradventure the Lord will deal with us according to all his wondrous deeds, so that he may withdraw from us.
“Consulta, te ruego, a Yahvé acerca de nosotros: porque Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, nos hace la guerra. Quizás haga Yahvé con nosotros según todas sus grandes maravillas y aquel se retire de nosotros.”
3 Then said Jeremiah unto them, Thus shall ye say to Zedekiah:
Jeremías les respondió: Así diréis a Sedecías:
4 Thus hath said the Lord the God of Israel, Behold, I will turn back the weapons of war that are in your hands, wherewith ye fight against the king of Babylon, and against the Chaldeans, who besiege you without the walls, and I will assemble them into the midst of this city.
“Esto dice Yahvé, el Dios, de Israel: He aquí que volveré atrás las armas de guerra que tenéis en vuestras manos y con que peleáis contra el rey de Babilonia y los caldeos, que os tienen cercados rodeando las murallas, y las amontonaré en medio de esta ciudad.
5 And I myself will fight against you with an outstretched hand and with a strong arm, and in anger, and in fury, and in great wrath.
Y Yo mismo lucharé contra vosotros con mano extendida y brazo fuerte, con ira, con furor y con grande indignación.
6 And I will smite the inhabitants of this city, both man and beast: of a great pestilence shall they die.
Heriré a los que viven en esta ciudad, hombres y bestias, y morirán de una gran peste.
7 And afterward, saith the Lord, will I give up Zedekiah the king of Judah, and his servants, and the people, and those that are left in this city from the pestilence, from the sword, and from the famine, into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, and into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those that seek their life: and he shall smite them with the edge of the sword; he will not spare them, nor have pity, nor have mercy.
Después de esto, dice Yahvé, entregaré a Sedecías, rey de Judá, a sus servidores y al pueblo, y a los que en esa ciudad escapen de la peste, de la espada y del hambre, en manos de Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, en manos de sus enemigos, y en manos de los que atentan contra su vida, y él los herirá a filo de espada, sin perdonarlos, sin piedad, sin misericordia.
8 And unto this people shalt thou say, Thus hath said the Lord, Behold, I set before you the way of life, and the way of death.
Y a este pueblo le dirás: Así dice Yahvé: He aquí que Yo os pongo delante el camino de la vida y el camino de la muerte.
9 He that remaineth in this city shall die by the sword, or by the famine, or by the pestilence; but he that goeth out, and runneth away to the Chaldeans that besiege you, shall remain alive, and his life shall be unto him as a booty.
El que se quede en esta ciudad morirá a espada, de hambre y de peste; más el que salga y se entregue a los caldeos que os tienen cercados, vivirá, y tendrá su vida como botín.
10 For I have set my face against this city for evil, and not for good, saith the Lord: into the hand of the king of Babylon shall it be given up, and he will burn it with fire.
Porque he vuelto mi rostro hacia esta ciudad para mal y no para bien, dice Yahvé: será entregada en poder del rey de Babilonia, el cual la entregará a las llamas.
11 And to the house of the king of Judah [say], Hear ye the word of the Lord:
Y en cuanto a la casa del rey de Judá, la palabra de Yahvé:
12 O house of David, thus hath said the Lord, Exercise justice on [every] morning, and deliver him that is robbed out of the hand of the oppressor; lest my fury go forth like fire, and burn so that none can quench it, because of the evil of your doings.
Oh casa de David, así dice Yahvé: Apresuraos a hacer justicia, librad al oprimido del poder del opresor, no sea que estalle como fuego mi ira, y arda sin que haya quien la apague, a causa de la maldad de vuestras obras.
13 Behold, I am against thee, O inhabitress of the valley, [about] the rock of the plain, saith the Lord; who say, Who shall descend down against us? or who shall enter into our habitations?
He aquí que a ti me dirijo, oh habitadora del valle, peña (que se alza) en la llanura, dice Yahvé; a vosotros, que decís: «¿Quién descenderá contra nosotros?» o «¿quién podrá penetrar en nuestras casas?»
14 But I will inflict punishment on you according to the fruit of your doings, saith the Lord: and I will kindle a fire in its forest, and it shall devour all its environs.
Os castigaré según el fruto de vuestras obras, dice Yahvé, pues prenderé fuego a su bosque, que devorará todos sus alrededores.”
