Jeremiah 17
1 The sin of Judah is written down with a pen of iron, with the point of a diamond: it is engraved upon the table of their heart, and on the horns of your altars.
Il peccato di Giuda è scritto con uno stilo di ferro, con una punta di diamante; è scolpito sulla tavola del loro cuore e sui corni de’ vostri altari.
2 Like their remembrance of their children, so are [to them] their altars and their groves by [every] green tree upon the high hills.
Come si ricordano dei loro figliuoli, così si ricordano dei loro altari e dei loro idoli d’Astarte presso gli alberi verdeggianti sugli alti colli.
3 O my mountain in the field, thy substance, all thy treasures will I give up for spoil, thy high-places [reared] with sin, throughout all thy borders.
O mia montagna che domini la campagna, io darò i tuoi beni e tutti i tuoi tesori e i tuoi alti luoghi come preda, a cagione de’ peccati che tu hai commessi entro tutti i tuoi confini!
4 And thou shalt be cast out, yea through thy own guilt, from thy heritage which I have given thee; and I will cause thee to serve thy enemies in a land which thou knowest not; for a fire have ye kindled in my anger, for ever shall it burn.
E tu, per tua colpa, perderai l’eredità ch’io t’avevo data, e ti farò servire ai tuoi nemici, in un paese che non conosci; perché avete acceso il fuoco della mia ira, ed esso arderà in perpetuo.
5 Thus hath said the Lord, Cursed is the man that trusteth in man, and placeth on flesh his dependence, while from the Lord his heart departeth.
Così parla l’Eterno: Maledetto L’uomo che confida nell’uomo e fa della carne il suo braccio, e il cui cuore si ritrae dall’Eterno!
6 And he shall be like a lonely tree in the desert, which feeleth not when the good cometh; but abideth in the parched places in the wilderness, in a salty land which cannot be inhabited.
Egli è come un tamerice nella pianura sterile; e quando giunge il bene, ei non lo vede; dimora in luoghi aridi, nel deserto, in terra salata, senza abitanti.
7 Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and the Lord will be his trust.
Benedetto l’uomo che confida nell’Eterno, e la cui fiducia è l’Eterno!
8 And he shall be like a tree that is planted by the waters, and by a stream spreadeth out its roots, which feeleth not when heat cometh, but its leaf remaineth green; and in a year of drought it is undisturbed by care, and ceaseth not from yielding fruit.
Egli è come un albero piantato presso all’acque, che distende le sue radici lungo il fiume; non s’accorge quando vien la caldura, e il suo fogliame riman verde; nell’anno della siccità non è in affanno, e non cessa di portar frutto.
9 Deceitful is the heart above all things, and sick: who can know it?
Il cuore è ingannevole più d’ogni altra cosa, e insanabilmente maligno; chi lo conoscerà?
10 I the Lord search the heart, probe the reins: yea, to give unto every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his deeds.
Io, l’Eterno, che investigo il cuore, che metto alla prova le reni, per retribuire ciascuno secondo le sue vie, secondo il frutto delle sue azioni.
11 As a cuckoo that sitteth on eggs which he hath not laid, so is he that get the riches, and not by right; in the midst of his days shall he leave them, and at his end shall be called wicked.
Chi acquista ricchezze, ma non con giustizia, è come la pernice che cova uova che non ha fatte; nel bel mezzo de’ suoi giorni egli deve lasciarle, e quando arriva la sua fine, non è che uno stolto.
12 A throne of glory, exalted from the beginning, is the place of our sanctuary!
Trono di gloria, eccelso fin dal principio, è il luogo del nostro santuario.
13 Hope of Israel, O Lord, all that forsake thee shall be made ashamed, and the backsliders among me shall be written down on the earth; because they have forsaken the fountain of living waters, the Lord.
Speranza d’Israele, o Eterno, tutti quelli che t’abbandonano saranno confusi; quelli che s’allontanano da te saranno iscritti sulla polvere, perché hanno abbandonato l’Eterno, la sorgente delle acque vive.
14 Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed: save me, and I shall be saved; for my praise art thou.
Guariscimi, o Eterno, e sarò guarito; salvami e sarò salvo; poiché tu sei la mia lode.
15 Behold, they say unto me, Where is the word of the Lord? let it come now.
Ecco, essi mi dicono: “Dov’è la parola dell’Eterno? ch’essa si compia, dunque!”
16 As for me, I have not hastened to be a shepherd to follow thee; and the woeful day have I not longed for; thou knowest it: what came out of my lips was known before thee.
Quanto a me, io non mi son rifiutato d’esser loro pastore agli ordini tuoi, né ho desiderato il giorno funesto, tu lo sai; quello ch’è uscito dalle mie labbra è stato manifesto dinanzi a te.
17 Be not a terror unto me: thou art my protection on the day of evil.
Non esser per me uno spavento; tu sei il mio rifugio nel giorno della calamità.
18 Let those be made ashamed that persecute me, but let not me be made ashamed: let them be dismayed, but let me not be dismayed: bring upon them the day of evil, and strike them with a double breach.
Siano confusi i miei persecutori; non io sia confuso; siano spaventati essi; non io sia spaventato; fa’ venir su loro il giorno della calamità, e colpiscili di doppia distruzione!
19 Thus said the Lord unto me, Go and stand in the gate of the children of the people, whereby the kings of Judah usually enter, and by which they usually go out, and in all the gates of Jerusalem;
Così m’ha detto l’Eterno: Va’, e fermati alla porta de’ figliuoli del popolo per la quale entrano ed escono i re di Giuda, e a tutte le porte di Gerusalemme e di’ loro:
20 And say unto them, Hear ye the word of the Lord, ye kings of Judah, and all Judah, and all inhabitants of Jerusalem, that enter in by these gates.
Ascoltate la parola dell’Eterno, o re di Giuda e tutto Giuda, e voi tutti gli abitanti di Gerusalemme, ch’entrate per queste porte!
21 Thus hath said the Lord, Take heed for your souls, and bear no burden on the sabbath-day, nor bring it in through the gates of Jerusalem;
Così parla l’Eterno: Per amore delle anime vostre, guardatevi dal portare alcun carico e dal farlo passare per le porte di Gerusalemme, in giorno di sabato;
22 Nor shall you carry forth a burden out of your houses on the sabbath-day, and no manner of work shall ye do, but hallow ye the sabbath-day, as I have commanded your fathers;
e non traete fuori delle vostre case alcun carico e non fate lavoro alcuno in giorno di sabato; ma santificate il giorno del sabato, com’io comandai ai vostri padri.
23 But they hearkened not, and inclined not their ear; and they made their neck stiff, so as not to hearken, and not to receive instruction.
Essi, però, non diedero ascolto, non porsero orecchio, ma indurarono la loro cervice per non ascoltare, e per non ricevere istruzione.
24 And it shall come to pass, if ye will diligently hearken unto me, saith the Lord, so as to bring in no burden through the gates of this city on the sabbath-day, and to hallow the sabbath-day, so as to do no work thereon:
E se voi mi date attentamente ascolto, dice l’Eterno, se non fate entrare alcun carico per le porte di questa città in giorno di sabato, ma santificate il giorno del sabato e non fate in esso alcun lavoro,
25 Then shall there enter through the gates of this city kings and princes sitting upon the throne of David, riding in chariots and on horses, they, and their princes, the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and this city shall be inhabited for ever.
i re ed i principi che seggono sul trono di Davide entreranno per le porte di questa città montati su carri e su cavalli: v’entreranno essi, i loro principi, gli uomini di Giuda, gli abitanti di Gerusalemme; e questa città sarà abitata in perpetuo.
26 And there shall come from the cities of Judah, and from the environs of Jerusalem, and from the land of Benjamin, and from the lowlands, and from the mountain, and from the south, those that bring burnt-offerings, and sacrifices, and meat-offerings, and frankincense, and those that bring thanksgiving-offerings, unto the house of the Lord.
E dalle città di Giuda, dai luoghi circonvicini di Gerusalemme, dal paese di Beniamino, dal piano, dal monte e dal mezzodì, si verrà a portare olocausti, vittime, oblazioni, incenso, e ad offrire sacrifizi d’azioni di grazie nella casa dell’Eterno.
27 But if ye will not hearken unto me to hallow the sabbath-day, and not to bear a burden, and to enter in at the gates of Jerusalem on the sabbath-day: then will I kindle a fire in its gates, and it shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem, and it shall not be quenched.
Ma, se non mi date ascolto e non santificate il giorno del sabato e non v’astenete dal portar de’ carichi e dall’introdurne per le porte di Gerusalemme in giorno di sabato, io accenderò un fuoco alle porte della città, ed esso divorerà i palazzi di Gerusalemme, e non s’estinguerà.
