Jeremiah 14
1 The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah concerning the drought.
Palavra do SENHOR que veio a Jeremias, quanto à seca:
2 Judah mourneth, and her gates languish; they lie grieved on the ground; and the distressed cry of Jerusalem ascendeth upward.
Judá está de luto, e suas portas se enfraqueceram; lamentam até o chão, e o clamor de Jerusalém está a subir.
3 And their nobles have sent out their subordinates for water: they come to the pits, they find no water; they return with their vessels empty; they are ashamed and confounded, and cover their head.
E os mais ilustres deles enviaram seus inferiores à água; eles vêm aos tanques, [e] não acham água; voltam com seus vasos vazios; eles se envergonham, se sentem humilhados, e cobrem suas cabeças.
4 Because of the ground which is cracked open, since there hath been no rain in the land, are the ploughmen ashamed, they cover their head.
Pois o chão se rachou, por não haver chuva na terra; envergonhados estão os trabalhadores, [e] cobrem suas cabeças.
5 Yea, the hind also bringeth forth her young in the field, and forsaketh [them], because there is no grass.
E até as cervas nos campos geram filhotes, e os abandonam, pois não há erva.
6 And the wild asses stand on the mountain-tops, they snuff up the wind like serpents: their eyes fail, because there are no herbs.
E os asnos monteses se põem nos lugares altos, aspiram o vento como os chacais; seus olhos se enfraquecem, pois não há erva.
7 If our iniquities testify against us, O Lord, do thou act for the sake of thy name; for our backslidings are many; against thee have we sinned.
Ainda nossas maldades dão testemunho contra nós, SENHOR, age por amor de teu nome; pois nossas rebeldias se multiplicaram, contra ti pecamos.
8 O thou hope of Israel, his saviour in time of trouble, why shouldst thou be as a stranger in the land, and as a wayfarer that turneth aside to lodge for a night?
Ó tu, esperança de Israel, Redentor seu em tempo de angústia! Por que serias tu como um peregrino na terra, e como um caminhante que [apenas] se recolhe para passar a noite?
9 Why shouldst thou be as a man that is surprised, as a mighty man that cannot save? yet thou art in the midst of us, O Lord, and we are called by thy name: abandon us not.
Por que serias tu como um homem atônito, e como um guerreiro que não pode salvar? Tu porém estás no meio de nós nós, ó SENHOR, e nós somos chamados pelo teu nome! Não nos desampares.
10 Thus hath said the Lord unto this people, Thus have they loved to wander about, their feet have they not restrained: therefore the Lord doth not receive them in favor; now will he remember their iniquity, and will punish their sins.
Assim diz o SENHOR quanto a este povo: Já que amaram tanto se moverem, e detiveram seus pés, por isso o SENHOR não se agrada deles; agora se lembrará da maldade deles, e punirá por causa de seus pecados.
11 Then said the Lord unto me, Pray not in behalf of this people for their good.
Disse-me mais o SENHOR: Não rogues pelo bem deste povo.
12 When they fast, I will not hear their entreaty: and when they offer burnt-offering and meat-offering, I will not receive them in favor; but by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence, will I make an end of them.
Quando jejuam, não ouvirei seu clamor, e quando oferecem sacrifícios de queima e ofertas de cereais, não os aceitarei; em vez disso, eu os consumirei por meio da espada, da fome, e da pestilência.
13 Then said I, Ah, Lord Eternal! behold, the prophets say unto them, Ye shall not see the sword, neither shall ye have famine; but a permanent peace will I give you in this place.
Então eu disse: Ah, Senhor DEUS! Eis que os profetas lhes dizem: Não vereis espada, nem tereis fome; eu, porém, vos darei uma paz verdadeira neste lugar.
14 Then said the Lord unto me, Falsehood do the prophets prophesy in my name; I have not sent them, neither have I commanded them, neither have I spoken unto them: a vision of falsehood, and divination, and idolatrous folly, and the deceit of their heart do they prophesy unto you.
Então o SENHOR me disse: Os profetas profetizam falsidade em meu nome; eu não os enviei, nem lhes mandei, nem lhes falei; eles vos profetizam visão falsa, adivinhação, inutilidade, e engano de seus [próprios] corações.
15 Therefore thus hath said the Lord concerning the prophets that prophesy in my name, when I have not sent them, while they say, Sword and famine shall not come in this land: By the sword and by the famine shall these prophets come to their end.
Portanto assim diz o SENHOR quanto aos profetas que profetizam em meu nome, sem que eu tenha lhes enviado, que dizem “não haverá nem espada nem fome nesta terra”: Com espada e com fome tais profetas serão consumidos;
16 And the people to whom they prophesy shall lie cast down in the streets of Jerusalem by means of the famine and the sword; and they shall have none to bury them, them, their wives, and their sons, and their daughters; for I will pour out their wickedness over them.
E o povo a quem eles profetizam será lançado fora nas ruas de Jerusalém, por causa da fome e da espada; e não haverá quem os enterre, eles, suas mulheres, seus filhos, e suas filhas; e sobre eles derramarei sua maldade.
17 But thou shalt say unto them this word. My eyes shall run down with tears night and day, and they shall not cease; for with a great breach is the virgin-daughter of my people broken, with a very painful blow.
Portanto tu lhes dirás esta palavra: Corram meus olhos em lágrimas noite e dia, e não cessem; porque a virgem filha de meu povo está quebrada de grande quebrantamento, [de] praga muito dolorosa.
18 If I go forth into the field, behold, there are the slain with the sword! and if I enter into the city, behold, there are those that are sick with famine! for both the prophet and the priest travel round into a land that they know not.
Se saio ao campo, eis os mortos a espada; e se entro na cidade, eis os doentes de fome; e até os profetas e os sacerdotes andam rodeando na terra, e nada sabem.
19 Hast thou entirely rejected Judah? or hath thy soul loathing on Zion? why hast thou smitten us, so that there is no healing for us? we hoped for peace, and there is no good; and for the time of healing, and behold, there is terror!
Rejeitaste a Judá por completo? Tua alma detesta a Sião? Por que nos feriste [de modo] que não haja cura para nós? Esperávamos paz, mas nada há de bom; [esperávamos] tempo de cura, e eis o terror!
20 We know, O Lord, our wickedness, the iniquity of our fathers; for we have sinned against thee.
Ó SENHOR, reconhecemos nossa perversidade, a maldade de nossos pais; pois pecamos contra ti.
21 Do not cast us off, for the sake of thy name, do not disgrace the throne of thy glory: remember, break not thy covenant with us.
Não [nos] rejeites por amor de teu nome, nem desonres ao trono de tua glória; lembra-te, não invalides o teu pacto conosco.
22 Are there any among the vanities of the nations those that bestow rain? or can the heavens give forth showers? Behold, thou art this, O Lord our God, and we will hope in thee; for thou hast done all these things.
Por acaso há entre as futilidades das nações alguém que faz chover? Ou podem os céus dar chuvas? Não és [somente] tu, SENHOR, nosso Deus? Por isso em ti esperamos, pois tu fazes todas estas coisas.
