Jeremiah 12
1 [Too] righteous art thou, O Lord, that I could plead with thee; yet must I speak of [the principles of] justice with thee: Wherefore is the way of the wicked happy? do all those prosper that deal treacherously?
Vous êtes trop juste, ô Yahweh; pour que je dispute contre vous; je veux seulement parler justice avec vous: Pourquoi la voie des méchants est-elle prospère; pourquoi tous les perfides vivent-ils en paix?
2 Thou hast planted them; they have also taken root; they grow; they also bring forth fruit: thou art near, in their mouth, and far from their mind.
Vous les plantez, et ils prennent racine; ils croissent, et ils portent du fruit; vous êtes près de leur bouche; et loin de leur cœur.
3 But thou, O Lord, knowest me; thou seest me, and probest my heart toward thee; set them apart like sheep for the slaughter, and destine them for the day of slaying.
Et vous, Yahweh, vous me connaissez, vous me voyez, et vous sondez ce que mon cœur est pour vous. Enlevez-les comme des brebis, pour la boucherie; vouez-les pour le jour du massacre!
4 How long shall the land mourn, and the herb of all the field wither? Because of the wickedness of those that dwell therein are wholly removed the beasts and the birds; because they said, He will not see our last end.
Jusques à quand le pays sera-t-il en deuil, et l’herbe de tous les champs sera-t-elle desséchée? A cause de la méchanceté de ceux qui y habitent, bétail et oiseaux périssent; car ils disent: « Il ne verra pas notre fin! »
5 If thou hast run with the footmen, and they have wearied thee, how then canst thou contend with the horses? and if in the land of peace, [wherein] thou trustedst, [they wearied thee, ] how then wilt thou do in the swelling of the Jordan?
Si tu cours avec des piétons et qu’ils te fatiguent, comment lutteras-tu avec des cavaliers? S’il te faut une terre de paix pour avoir confiance, que feras-tu contre les lions du Jourdain?
6 For even thy brethren, and the house of thy father, even they have dealt treacherously with thee; yea, even they have called forth a crowd of men after thee: believe them not, though they speak kindly unto thee.
Car tes frères mêmes et la maison de ton père, eux-mêmes te trahissent; eux-mêmes crient derrière toi à pleine voix; ne te fie pas à eux quand ils te disent de bonnes paroles.
7 I have forsaken my house, I have abandoned my heritage; I have given up the most dearly beloved of my soul into the hand of her enemies.
J’ai quitté ma maison, j’ai délaissé mon héritage, j’ai livré l’objet de mon amour aux mains de mes ennemis.
8 My heritage is become unto me as a lion in the forest; it sent forth its voice against me: therefore do I hate it.
Mon héritage est devenu pour moi comme un lion dans la forêt; il a élevé contre moi la voix; aussi l’ai-je pris en haine.
9 Is my heritage become unto me as a bird of prey stained with blood? so that the birds of prey are all around it? Come ye, assemble all the beasts of the field, bring them hither to devour.
Mon héritage est-il un vautour bigarré, contre lequel les vautours fondent de tous côtés? Venez, rassemblez toutes les bêtes des champs, amenez-les à la curée!
10 Many shepherds have destroyed my vineyard, they have trodden under foot my field, they have rendered my pleasant field a desolate wilderness.
De nombreux bergers ont détruit ma vigne, foulé aux pieds mon domaine; ils ont changé le lot qui m’était cher en désert, en dévastation.
11 They have made it a desert, and being desolate it mourneth before me: the whole land is made desolate, because no man laid it to heart.
On en a fait une ruine; dévasté, il est en deuil devant moi; tout le pays est saccagé, car personne ne l’a pris à cœur.
12 Over all the mountain-peaks in the wilderness did the destroyers come; for the sword of the Lord devoureth from the one end of the land even to the other end of the land: there is no peace to any flesh.
Sur toutes les collines du désert arrivent les dévastateurs; car le Yahweh a un glaive qui dévore, d’un bout à l’autre du pays; il n’y a pas de salut pour toute chair.
13 They have sown wheat, but they reap thorns; they have put themselves to pain [but] have no profit; be therefore ashamed of your products, because of the fierce anger of the Lord.
Ils ont semé du froment, ils moissonnent des épines; ils ont dépensé leurs forces, mais sans profit. Ayez honte de ce que vous récoltez: c’est l’effet de l’ardente colère de Yahweh.
14 Thus hath said the Lord against all my bad neighbors, that touch the inheritance which I have caused my people Israel to inherit, Behold, I will pluck them out of their land, and the house of Judah will I pluck out from the midst of them.
Ainsi parle Yahweh sur tous mes méchants voisins qui s’attaquent à l’héritage que j’ai donné à mon peuple d’Israël: Voici que je vais les arracher à leur sol, et j’arracherai du milieu d’eux la maison de Juda.
15 And it shall come to pass, that, after I have plucked them out, and I will again have mercy on them, and will restore them, every man to his heritage, and every man to his land.
Mais, après que je les aurai arrachés, j’aurai de nouveau compassion d’eux, et je les ramènerai chacun dans son héritage, chacun dans son pays.
16 And it shall come to pass, if they will truly learn the ways of my people, to swear by my name, As the Lord liveth; as they had taught my people to swear by Ba'al: that they shall then be built up in the midst of my people.
Et s’ils apprennent les voies de mon peuple, en jurant par mon nom: « Yahweh est vivant! », comme ils ont appris à mon peuple à jurer par Baal, ils seront établis au milieu de mon peuple.
17 But if they will not hearken, then will I pluck out that nation, plucking out and exterminating [them], saith the Lord.
Mais s’ils n’écoutent pas, j’arracherai cette nation; je l’arracherai et la détruirai, — oracle de Yahweh.
