Isaiah 50
1 Thus hath said the Lord, Where is your mother's bill of divorcement, wherewith I have sent her away? or who of my creditors is it to whom I have sold you? behold, for your iniquities were ye sold, and for your transgressions was your mother sent away.
Yahvé dit: « Où est l'acte de divorce de ta mère, par lequel je l'ai répudiée? Ou à lequel de mes créanciers t'ai-je vendu? Voici, vous avez été vendus pour vos iniquités, et ta mère a été répudiée pour tes transgressions.
2 Why did I come and no man was there, did I call, with none to answer? hath my hand become too short for redeeming? or is there no power in me to deliver? behold, through my threatening I can dry up the sea, I can change the rivers into a wilderness: their fish stink for want of water, and die for thirst.
Pourquoi, quand je suis venu, n'y avait-il personne? Quand j'ai appelé, pourquoi n'y avait-il personne pour répondre? Ma main est-elle raccourcie au point de ne pas pouvoir racheter? Ou n'ai-je pas le pouvoir de délivrer? Voici, à ma réprimande, je dessèche la mer. Je fais des rivières un désert. Leurs poissons puent parce qu'il n'y a pas d'eau, et meurent de soif.
3 I can clothe the heavens with blackness, and I can make sackcloth their garment.
Je revêts les cieux d'obscurité. Je fais du sac leur couverture. »
4 The Lord Eternal hath given me a tongue for teaching, that I should know how to strengthen the weary with the word: he wakeneth morning by morning, he wakeneth my ear to listen like those who are well taught.
Le Seigneur Yahvé m'a donné la langue de ceux qui sont enseignés, afin que je sache comment soutenir par des paroles celui qui est fatigué. Il se réveille matin après matin, il éveille mon oreille pour entendre comme ceux qui sont enseignés.
5 The Lord Eternal hath opened me my ear, and I resisted not: I turned not backward.
Le Seigneur Yahvé a ouvert mon oreille. Je n'étais pas rebelle. Je n'ai pas fait demi-tour.
6 My back I gave up to the smiters, and my cheeks to those that plucked off the hair: my face I hid not from abuse and spitting.
J'ai donné mon dos à ceux qui me battaient, et mes joues à ceux qui ont arraché les poils. Je n'ai pas caché mon visage de la honte et des crachats.
7 But the Lord Eternal ever helpeth me; therefore was I not confounded; therefore have I rendered my face like a flint, and I knew that I should not be made ashamed.
Car le Seigneur Yahvé m'aidera. C'est pourquoi je n'ai pas été confondu. C'est pourquoi j'ai posé mon visage comme un silex, et je sais que je ne serai pas déçu.
8 He that justifieth me is near; who will contend with me? let us stand forward together: who hath a dispute with me? let him come near to me.
Celui qui me justifie est proche. Qui va porter plainte contre moi? Levons-nous ensemble. Qui est mon adversaire? Laissez-le s'approcher de moi.
9 Behold, the Lord Eternal will help me; who is the man that will condemn me? lo, they all shall wear out as a garment: the moth shall eat them up.
Voici que le Seigneur Yahvé me vient en aide! Qui est celui qui me condamnera? Voici qu'ils vieilliront tous comme un vêtement. Les mites vont les manger.
10 Who is among you that feareth the Lord, that hearkeneth to the voice of his servant? though he have walked in darkness, and had no light: let him trust in the name of the Lord, and lean for support upon his God.
Qui parmi vous craint Yahvé et obéit à la voix de son serviteur? Celui qui marche dans les ténèbres et n'a pas de lumière, qu'il se confie au nom de Yahvé, et s'en remettre à son Dieu.
11 Behold, all ye that kindle fire, that urge on the brands: walk by the blaze of your fire, and by the brands ye have kindled; from my hand hath this been bestowed on you; in pain shall ye lie down.
Voici, vous tous qui allumez un feu, qui se parent de torches autour de vous, marcher dans la flamme de ton feu, et parmi les torches que vous avez allumées. Vous aurez ceci de ma main: tu te coucheras dans la tristesse.
