Isaiah 36
1 And it came to pass in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah, that Sennacherib the king of Assyria came up against all the fortified cities of Judah, and seized on them.
Y sucedió que en el decimocuarto año del rey Ezequías, Senaquerib, rey de Asiria, subió contra todas las ciudades amuralladas de Judá y las tomó.
2 And the king of Assyria sent Rabshakeh from Lachish to Jerusalem to king Hezekiah with a strong army. And he halted by the aqueduct of the upper pool on the highway of the washer's field.
El rey de Asiria envió a un alto oficial a Laquis a Jerusalén y al rey Ezequías con gran fuerza, y él tomó posesión de su posición junto al arroyo del estanque más alto, junto a la carretera del lavandero.
3 Then came forth unto him Elyakim, the son of Chilkiyahu, who was superintendent over the house, and Shebna the scribe, and Yoach the son of Assaph, the recorder.
Y salió a él Eliaquim, hijo de Hilcías, que estaba sobre la casa, y a Sebna el escriba, y a Joa, el hijo de Asaf, el registrador.
4 And Rabshakeh said unto them, —Say ye now to Hezekiah, Thus hath said the great king, the king of Assyria, What confidence is this wherewith thou hast trusted?
Entonces él alto oficial les dijo: Digan ahora a Ezequías: Estas son las palabras del gran rey, el rey de Asiria: ¿Qué confianza es esta que tienes?
5 I have said, but it was only a word uttered with the lips, [I have] counsel and strength for the war. Now, on whom didst thou trust, that thou rebelledst against me?
Dices que tienes un plan y una fuerza para la guerra, pero estas son solo palabras: ahora, ¿en quién buscas apoyo, que has ido en contra de mi autoridad?
6 Behold, thou trustedst on yon cracked reed-staff, on Egypt; which, if a man lean on it, will enter into his hand, and pierce it: so is Pharaoh the king of Egypt to all that trust on him.
Mira, estás basando tu esperanza en esa vara rota de Egipto, que atraviesa la mano de un hombre si la usa para un apoyo; porque así es el faraón, rey de Egipto, para todos los que confían en él.
7 But if thou shouldst say to me, In the Lord our God have we trusted: is he not the one whose high-places and whose altars Hezekiah hath removed, when he said to Judah and to Jerusalem, Before this altar shall ye prostrate yourselves?
Y si me dices: Nuestra esperanza está en el Señor nuestro Dios; ¿Acaso no es aquel cuyos lugares altos y altares ha quitado Ezequías, diciendo a Judá y Jerusalén que la adoración solo se puede dar ante este altar?
8 And now I pray thee, enter into a contest with my master the king of Assyria, and I will give thee two thousand horses, if thou be able on thy part to set riders upon them.
Y ahora, ponte de acuerdo con mi maestro, el rey de Asiria, y te daré dos mil caballos, si eres capaz de ponerles jinetes.
9 How then wilt thou turn back the face of a single chieftain of the least of my masters' servants, while thou hast put thy trust on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?
Entonces, ¿cómo puedes avergonzar al menor de los sirvientes de mi amo? y has puesto tu esperanza en Egipto por los carros de guerra y los jinetes:
10 And now am I come up without the Lord ['s will] against this land to destroy it? The Lord hath said unto me, Go up against this land, and destroy it.
¿Y ahora he venido a enviar destrucción a esta tierra sin la autoridad del Señor? Fue el mismo Señor quien me dijo: “Sube contra esta tierra y destrúyela”.
11 Then said Elyakim and Shebna and Yoach unto Rabshakeh, Speak, we pray thee, unto thy servants in the Syrian language; for we understand it: and speak not to us in the Jewish language, before the ears of the people that are on the wall.
Entonces Eliaquim, Sebna y Joa dijeron al alto oficial: Por favor, utiliza el lenguaje arameo para hablar con tus sirvientes, porque estamos acostumbrados y no hacemos uso del lenguaje de los judíos en la audiencia de la gente en la pared.
12 But Rabshakeh said, Hath my master then sent me to thy master and to thee to speak these words? is it not rather to the men who sit upon the wall, that they may eat their own excrements, and drink their own urine with you?
Pero el Alto oficial dijo: ¿Es para tu maestro o para ti que mi maestro me ha enviado a decir estas palabras? ¿No me ha enviado a los hombres sentados en la pared? porque son las personas a las que les faltará comida y se comerán su propio estiércol y sus propios orines cuando el pueblo esté cerrado.
13 Then stood Rabshakeh up, and called out in a loud voice in the Jewish language, and said, Hear ye the words of the great king, the king of Assyria.
Entonces el Alto oficial se levantó y dijo en voz alta en el lenguaje de los judíos: “Escuchen las palabras del gran rey, el rey de Asiria:
14 Thus hath said the king, Let not Hezekiah deceive you; for he will not be able to deliver you;
Esto es lo que dice el rey: No te dejes engañar por Ezequías, porque no hay salvación para ti en él.
15 Neither let Hezekiah induce you to trust in the Lord, saying, The Lord will surely deliver us; this city shall not be given up into the hand of the king of Assyria.
Y no permitas que Ezequías te haga confiar en el Señor, diciendo: El Señor ciertamente nos mantendrá a salvo, y este pueblo no será entregado en manos del rey de Asiria.
16 Hearken not to Hezekiah; for thus hath said the king of Assyria, Make a treaty of peace with me, and come out to me; and eat ye every one of his vine, and every one of his fig-tree, and drink ye every one the waters of his cistern;
No escuches a Ezequías, porque esto es lo que dice el rey de Asiria: Haz las paces conmigo, y sal a mí; y todos serán libres de tomar el fruto de su vid y de su higuera, y el agua de su manantial;
17 Until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of corn and wine, a land of bread and vineyards.
Hasta que yo venga y los lleve a una tierra como la de ustedes, una tierra de grano y vino, una tierra de pan y viñas.
18 So that Hezekiah may not mislead you, saying, The Lord will deliver us. Have the gods of the nations delivered each his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria?
No le presten atención a Ezequías cuando te dice: El Señor nos mantendrá a salvo. ¿Alguno de los dioses de las naciones ha impedido que su tierra caiga en manos del rey de Asiria?
19 Where are the gods of Chamath and Arpad? where are the gods of Sepharvayim? and have they then delivered Samaria out of my hand?
¿Dónde están los dioses de Hamat y de Arfad? ¿Dónde están los dioses de Sefarvaim? ¿Dónde están los dioses de Samaria? ¿Y han mantenido a Samaria fuera de mi mano?
20 Who are they among all the gods of these countries, that have delivered their country out of my hand, that the Lord should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?
¿Quién, entre todos los dioses de estos países, ha impedido que su país caiga en mis manos para dar razón al pensamiento de que el Señor evitará que Jerusalén caiga en mis manos?
21 But they remained silent, and answered him not a word; for it was the king's command, saying, Ye shall not answer him.
Pero se quedaron callados y no le dieron respuesta; porque la orden del rey era que no le dieran respuesta.
22 Then came Elyakim the son of Chilkiyahu, that was superintendent over the house, and Shebna the scribe, and Yoach the son of Assaph, the recorder, to Hezekiah with their clothes rent; and they told him the words of Rabshakeh.
Entonces Eliaquim, el hijo de Hilcías, que estaba sobre la casa, y Sebna el escriba, y Joa, el hijo de Asaf, el registrador, llegaron a Ezequías con sus ropas rasgadas como señal de dolor, y le dieron un relato de lo que el alto oficial había dicho.
