Isaiah 22
1 The doom of the valley of vision. What aileth thee now, that thou art wholly gone up to the roofs?
Oracle contre la vallée de la Vision: "Qu’as-tu donc à monter tout entière sur les toits,
2 O noiseful, tumultuous city, joyous town? thy slain ones are not slain with the sword, and not those that die in battle.
ô ville pleine de rumeurs, tumultueuse cité, toujours si joyeuse? Tes morts n’ont pas péri par le glaive, n’ont pas succombé dans les combats.
3 All thy rulers are fled together, they are made prisoners by the bowmen: all that are found in thee are made prisoners together, who have run away from afar.
Tes chefs qui s’enfuient de concert sont pris sans être frappés par l’arc; ceux des tiens qui sont atteints sont capturés tous à la fois, tandis qu’ils se sauvent au loin.
4 Therefore said I, Look away from me; I will weep bitterly; be not urgent to comfort me, because of the wasting of the daughter of my people.
Aussi j’ai dit: "Laissez-moi, je veux répandre des larmes amères, ne vous mettez pas en peine pour me consoler du désastre de la fille de mon peuple.
5 For a day of confusion, and of treading down, and of perplexity hath the Lord Eternal of hosts in the valley of vision; walls are broken, and crying is heard against the mountain.
Car c’est un jour de trouble, de ruine et d’effarement qu’a décrété le Seigneur, Dieu-Cebaot, contre la vallée de la Vision: on abat les murailles et des cris résonnent dans les montagnes.
6 And 'Elam beareth the quiver, [cometh] with men in chariots and horsemen, and Kir uncovereth the shield.
Elam saisit le carquois, soutenu par des chars pleins de combattants et par des cavaliers, et Kir a mis à découvert son bouclier.
7 And it is so, that thy choicest valleys are full of chariots, and the horsemen set themselves in array against the gate.
Tes plus belles vallées sont envahies par des chars, et les cavaliers sont rangés près des portes.
8 And he laid open the covering of Judah; and thou didst look on that day toward the armor of the house of the forest.
Et quand l’ennemi a enlevé ainsi le voile de Juda, tu mets alors ton espoir dans l’arsenal de la Maison de la Forêt.
9 And the breaches of the city of David have ye seen, that they are many: and ye gathered together the waters of the lower pool.
Vous constatez les nombreuses brèches de la ville de David et emmagasinez les eaux de la Piscine inférieure.
10 And the houses of Jerusalem have ye numbered, and ye have pulled down the houses to fortify the wall.
Vous faites le recensement des maisons de Jérusalem, et abattez des maisons pour fortifier les remparts.
11 And a tank have ye made between the two walls for the water of the old pool; but ye have not looked at the Maker thereof, him that fashioned it in distant times have ye not regarded.
Vous établissez un réservoir entre les deux murs pour les eaux de la vieille Piscine; mais vous n’avez pas de regard pour Celui qui est cause de tout cela, et vous ne savez pas reconnaître Celui qui l’a préparé de loin.
12 And the Lord Eternal of hosts called on that day for weeping, and for mourning, and for baldness, and for girding with sackcloth.
En ce jour, ce à quoi vous invite le Seigneur, Dieu-Cebaot, c’est à pleurer, à vous lamenter, à vous raser la tête, à ceindre le cilice.
13 And behold [there are] gladness and joy, slaying of oxen, and killing of sheep, eating flesh, and drinking wine: “Let us eat and drink; for tomorrow we must die.”
Or, voilà que chez vous tout est plaisir, allégresse, tuerie de bœufs, égorgement de moutons, mangerie de viandes, beuverie de vin: "Mangeons et buvons, dites-vous, car demain nous mourrons."
14 And it was revealed in my ears by the Lord of hosts: Surely this iniquity shall not be forgiven unto you until ye die, said the Lord the Eternal of hosts.
Mais l’arrêt de l’Eternel-Cebaot a été révélé à mes oreilles: "Ah! je le jure, ce péché ne vous sera point pardonné, jusqu’à votre mort," telle est la déclaration du Seigneur, Dieu-Cebaot.
15 Thus hath said the Lord, Go, get thee unto this treasurer, even unto Shebna, who is [superintendent] over the house;
Ainsi parla le Seigneur, Dieu-Cebaot: "Va, transporte-toi auprès de ce haut dignitaire, auprès de Chebna, intendant du palais pour lui dire:
16 What hast thou here? and whom hast thou here, that thou hast hewn out for thyself here a sepulchre, [the man] that hath hewn out on high his sepulchre, that holloweth out in the rock a habitation for himself?
Que possèdes-tu à toi en ces lieux, qui t’appartient ici, pour t’y creuser un sépulcre? II ose se creuser un sépulcre sur les hauteurs, se tailler une demeure dans le roc!
17 Behold, the Lord will thrust thee about with a mighty throw, O man! and will lay fast hold of thee;
Voici, l’Eternel va t’empoigner avec vigueur, te faire tourner sur toi-même;
18 He will roll thee up as a bundle, and [toss thee] like a ball into a country of ample space: there shalt thou die, and there shall [remain] the chariots of thy glory, thou disgrace of the house of thy lord.
il te roulera comme une pelote, te lancera comme une boule vers un pays aux vastes espaces. Là, tu mourras, là iront tes chars somptueux, ô toi, honte de la maison de ton maître.
19 And I will cast thee out from thy station, and from thy post shall he pull thee down.
Ainsi je te précipiterai de ton poste et te culbuterai de ta place."
20 And it shall come to pass on that day, that I will call my servant, for Elyakim the son of Chilkiyahu.
En ce jour, je ferai appel à mon serviteur Eliakim, fils de Hilkyyâhou.
21 And I will clothe him with thy robe, and thy girdle will I fasten around him, and thy government will I place into his hand: and he shall be as a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to the house of Judah.
Je le revêtirai de ta tunique, fixerai autour de lui ta ceinture et remettrai ton pouvoir entre ses mains; il sera un père pour les habitants de Jérusalem et la maison de Juda.
22 And I will lay the key of the house of David upon his shoulder; so that he shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open.
Je poserai la clef de la maison de David sur son épaule: il ouvrira et personne ne fermera, il fermera et personne n’ouvrira.
23 And I will fasten him as a tent-nail in a sure place; and he shall be for a chair of honor to his father's house.
Je le planterai solidement comme un clou dans un mur résistant, et il deviendra un trône de gloire pour la maison de son père.
24 And they shall hang upon him all the glory of his father's house, the shoots and offshoots, all the small vessels, from the vessels of basins, even to all the vessels of flagons.
Tout l’honneur de la maison de son père sera suspendu à lui les rejetons directs comme les branches éloignées, les plus petits ustensiles, depuis les bassins de métal jusqu’aux vases d’argile.
25 On that day, saith the Lord of hosts, shall be removed the nail that is fastened in the sure place, and be cut down, and fall; and the burden that is upon it shall be cut off; for the Lord hath spoken it.
En ce jour, dit l’Eternel-Cebaot, le clou planté dans un endroit solide cédera, il sera abattu et tombera, et avec lui sera ruinée toute la charge qu’il supporte. C’Est l’Eternel qui a parlé.
