Isaiah 21

1 The doom of the desert by the sea. As tempests in the south blow with fury; so doth it come from the desert, from a terrible land.

این پیام برای بابِل است: مهاجمی از سرزمین دهشت، مانند گردباد بیابانی، به سوی بابِل می‌آید.

2 A hard vision hath been told unto me; the traitor dealeth treacherously, and the spoiler spoileth. “Go up, O 'Elam; besiege, O Media;” all sighing have I caused to cease.

رؤیای ترسناکی می‌بینم، رویای خیانت و نابودی! ای لشکر عیلام حمله کن! ای لشکر ماد محاصره کن! خدا به نالهٔ قومهایی که زیر دست بابِل هستند پایان می‌دهد.

3 Therefore are my loins filled with pain; pangs have seized me, like the pangs of a woman that travaileth: I am too much cramped to hear; I am too much dismayed to see.

با دیدن و شنیدن این چیزها مدهوش شدم و دردی چون درد زایمان همهٔ وجودم را فرا گرفت.

4 My heart wandereth astray, dread affrighteth me: the evening of my pleasure hath he turned unto me into terror.

می‌ترسیدم و قلبم به شدت می‌تپید. آرزو می‌کردم هر چه زودتر شب فرا رسد، ولی آرامش شب نیز جای خود را به وحشت داده بود.

5 Prepare the table, put on the candlesticks, eat, drink: arise, ye princes, and anoint the shield.

در رؤیا دیدم فرشها پهن شده و سفره چیده شده است و عده‌ای مشغول خوردن و نوشیدنند. ناگهان فرمانی صادر می‌شود: «ای سرداران برخیزید و سپرهای خود را برای جنگ آماده سازید!»

6 For thus hath said unto me the Lord, Go, set the watchman, what he seeth let him tell.

در این هنگام خداوند به من فرمود: «یک دیدبان تعیین کن تا هر چه را می‌بیند، خبر دهد.

7 And he will see chariots, horsemen in couples, riders on asses, riders on camels; and he shall listen diligently with much heed:

هنگامی که ببیند سواران جفت‌جفت بر الاغ و شتر می‌آیند باید دقت کند.»

8 And he calleth [like] a lion, Upon the watchtower, O Lord, do I stand continually in the daytime, and on my ward am I set all the nights.

پس دیدبان را بالای حصار گذاشتم. یک روز او فریاد زد: «ای سرورم، روزها و شبها بر دیدبانگاه خود ایستاده دیدبانی کرده‌ام. اینک فوج سواران را می‌بینم که جفت‌جفت می‌آیند!» در این هنگام، صدایی شنیدم که می‌گفت: «بابِل سقوط کرد! بابِل سقوط کرد! همهٔ بتهای بابِل خرد شدند و روی زمین افتادند!»

9 And, behold, here cometh a chariot with men, horsemen in couples, and he commenceth and saith, Fallen, fallen is Babylon; and all the graven images of her gods hath he shivered unto the ground.

10 O my down-trodden [people, ] and the son of my threshingfloor: that which I have heard from the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, have I told unto you.

ای قوم من اسرائیل، ای قومی که مانند گندم کوبیده و غربال شده‌اید، به این خبر خوشی که از جانب خداوند لشکرهای آسمان، خدای اسرائیل، به شما اعلام کردم، گوش دهید.

11 The doom of Dumah. Unto me one calleth out of Se'ir, Watchman, what of the night? Watchman, what of the night?

این پیام برای دومَه است: یک نفر از ادوم مرا صدا می‌زند: «ای دیدبان، از شب چه خبر؟ چقدر مانده شب تمام شود؟»

12 The watchman said, The morning cometh, and also the night: if ye will desire, desire ye; return, come again.

من جواب می‌دهم: «به‌زودی روز داوری شما فرا می‌رسد. به سوی خدا بازگشت کنید تا من خبر خوشی به شما دهم. او را بطلبید و دوباره بیایید و بپرسید.»

13 The doom upon Arabia. In the forest in Arabia shall ye lodge, O ye caravans of Dedanim.

این پیام برای عربستان است: ای مردم ددان که در بیابانهای عربستان اردو می‌زنید،

14 Toward him that is thirsty they bring water; the inhabitants of the land of Thema meet with suitable bread the fugitive.

به تشنگانی که نزد شما می‌آیند آب دهید؛ ای مردم تیما به فراریان خوراک دهید.

15 Because from the swords are they fled, from the drawn sword, and from the bent bow, and from the pressure of war.

اینها از شمشیر برهنه و کمان کشیده و از جنگِ سخت گریخته‌اند.

16 For thus hath said the Lord unto me, Within yet one year, like the years of a hired laborer, shall all the glory of Kedar be at an end:

خداوند به من گفت: «درست پس از یک سال قدرت و شوکت قبیلهٔ قیدار از بین خواهد رفت

17 And the residue of the number of bows of the mighty men of the children of Kedar shall be small; for the Lord the God of Israel hath spoken it.

و از تیراندازان و جنگاوران این قبیله بیش از چند نفر باقی نخواهند ماند. من که یهوه خدای اسرائیل هستم این را می‌گویم.»
