Isaiah 19

1 The doom of Egypt. Behold, the Lord rideth upon a swift cloud, and is coming to Egypt: and the idols of Egypt shall be moved because of his presence, and the heart of Egypt shall melt in its inward parts.

Oracle sur l'Égypte. Voici que le Seigneur s'est assis sur une nuée légère, et il arrivera en Égypte, et les idoles de l'Égypte seront ébranlées devant sa face, et elle faiblira au fond de son cœur.

2 And I will stir up Egyptians against Egyptians: and they shall fight every one against his brother, and every one against his fellow; city against city, kingdom against kingdom.

Et les Égyptiens s'élèveront contre les Égyptiens, et le frère combattra le frère, ami contre ami, ville contre ville, nom contre nom.

3 And the spirit of Egypt shall be emptied out in its inward parts, and its counsel will I frustrate; and they will inquire of the idols, and of the charmers, and of those that have familiar spirits, and of the wizards.

Et l'esprit des Égyptiens sera troublé en eux-mêmes, et je dissiperai leurs conseils; et ils interrogeront leurs dieux, et leurs statues, et ceux qui font sortir leurs voix de la terre, et les magiciens.

4 And I will surrender the Egyptians into the hand of a cruel lord; and a rigorous king shall rule over them, saith the Lord, the Eternal of hosts.

Et je livrerai l'Égypte aux mains de maîtres cruels, et des rois cruels y règneront: voilà ce que dit le Seigneur Dieu des armées.

5 And the waters shall fail from the sea, and the river shall be wasted and dried up.

Et les Égyptiens boiront de l'eau près de la mer; car leur fleuve tarira, et il sera desséché.

6 And the rivers shall become foul; and shallow and dried up shall become the deep streams: reeds and flags shall wither.

Et les fleuves tariront et les canaux du fleuve; et tout amas d'eau sera desséché, et tous les marais où croissent le roseau et le papyrus;

7 The well-rooted plants by the stream, by the mouth of the stream, and every thing sown by the stream, shall dry up, be scattered [by the wind, ] and be no more.

Et le gazon verdoyant au bord du fleuve; et tout ce qui est semé le long du fleuve sera flétri et desséché par le vent.

8 The fishermen also shall lament, and all they that cast an angle into the stream shall mourn; and they that spread nets upon the face of the waters shall languish.

Et les pêcheurs gémiront; et ils gémiront tous ceux qui jettent l'hameçon dans le fleuve; et ceux qui jettent des seines et des filets pleureront.

9 And ashamed shall be they that work in fine flax, and they that weave white cloth.

Et ceux qui travaillent le lin et le byssus, ou qui font des robes, seront confondus.

10 And its foundations shall be beaten down, all that build sluices shall be grieved in soul.

Et tous les artisans seront dans la douleur, et ceux Qui font la bière seront attristés, et ils souffriront en leur âme

11 Surely fools are the princes of Zo'an! the wise of the counsellors of Pharaoh [impart] silly counsel: how can ye say unto Pharaoh, I am a son of the wise, a son of the ancient kings?

Et les princes de Tanis, sages conseillers du roi, deviendront fous; leur conseil sera folie. Comment pourrez-vous dire au roi: Nous sommes les fils des sages, les fils des anciens rois?

12 Where are they, these, thy wise men? that they may tell thee now, that they know what the Lord of hosts hath resolved on over Egypt.

Où sont maintenant tes sages? Qu'ils prophétisent, et qu'ils disent: Qu'a résolu contre l'Égypte le Seigneur Dieu des armées?

13 The princes of Zo'an are become fools, deceived are the princes of Noph; and Egypt is led astray by the chiefs of its tribes.

Les princes de Tanis ont défailli; ceux de Memphis se sont enorgueillis, et ils ont égaré l'Égypte en toutes ses tribus.

14 The Lord hath poured out in the midst thereof a spirit of perverseness: and they have led Egypt astray in all its work, as a drunkard reeleth astray in his vomit.

Car le Seigneur a répandu sur eux un esprit d'erreur, et ils ont égaré l'Égypte en toutes ses œuvres, et ils l'ont fait marcher comme un homme ivre qui vomit.

15 And there shall not be for Egypt [successful] work, which the head or tail, palm-branch or rush, may do.

Et les Égyptiens ne feront plus rien qui ait une tête et une queue, un commencement et une fin.

16 On that day shall Egypt be like the women: and it shall tremble and be in dread because of the waving of the hand of the Lord of hosts, which he waveth over it.

Et, en ce jour, les Égyptiens seront comme des femmes effrayées et tremblantes sous la main du Seigneur des armées, qu'il fera tomber sur eux.

17 And the land of Judah shall become unto Egypt a terror, every one that maketh mention thereof shall be in dread, because of the counsel of the Lord of hosts, which he hath resolved against it.

Et la terre de la Judée sera pour les Égyptiens un objet de terreur; et quiconque prononcera son nom devant eux les frappera de crainte, à cause des desseins que le Seigneur des armées a formés sur eux-mêmes.

18 On that day shall be five cities in the land of Egypt speaking the language of Canaan, and swearing by the Lord of hosts; “The city of destruction” shall one be called.

Ce jour-là, il y aura cinq villes d'Égypte qui parleront la langue de Chanaan, et jureront par le Seigneur Dieu des armées. L'une de ces villes s'appellera Asédec.

19 On that day shall there be all altar to the Lord in the midst of the land of Egypt, and a pillar at its border to the Lord.

Ce jour-là, il y aura sur le territoire d'Égypte un autel du Seigneur, et à sa frontière une colonne élevée au Seigneur.

20 And it shall be for a sign and for a testimony unto the Lord of hosts in the land of Egypt; for they shall cry unto the Lord because of the oppressors, and he will send them a helper, and a chief, and he shall deliver them.

Et ce sera un signe éternel au Seigneur en la terre d'Égypte. Dès lors ils crieront au Seigneur dans leurs tribulations, et il leur enverra un homme pour les sauver; et il les sauvera en les jugeant.

21 And the Lord will be made known to the Egyptians, and the Egyptians shall know the Lord on that day, and will do service [with] sacrifice and oblation; yea, they will make vows unto the Lord and perform [them].

Et le Seigneur sera connu des Égyptiens. Et les Égyptiens en ce jour connaîtront le Seigneur, et ils lui sacrifieront des victimes, et ils lui feront des vœux, et ils les accompliront.

22 And the Lord will thus strike Egypt, striking and healing it: and they will return unto the Lord, and he will be entreated of them, and heal them.

Et le Seigneur frappera d'une plaie les Égyptiens, puis il la guérira; et ils se convertiront au Seigneur, et il les exaucera, et il leur enverra une entière guérison.

23 On that day there shall be a highway out of Egypt to Asshur, and Asshur shall come into Egypt, and the Egyptians into Asshur, and the Egyptians shall serve with Asshur [the Lord].

En ce jour, il y aura une voie de l'Égypte à l'Assyrie; et les Assyriens entreront en Égypte; et les Égyptiens iront en Assyrie, et ils seront asservis aux Assyriens.

24 On that day shall Israel be the third with Egypt and with Asshur, a blessing in the midst of the earth.

En ce jour, Israël sera la troisième avec les Égyptiens et les Assyriens, et il sera béni sur la terre

25 Whom the Lord of hosts will have blessed, saying, Blessed be my people Egypt, and Asshur the work of my hands, and my heritage Israel.

Que le Seigneur des armées a bénie, disant: Béni soit mon peuple qui est en Égypte et qui est en Assyrie; et béni soit Israël mon héritage!
