Isaiah 14
1 For the Lord will have mercy on Jacob, and will again make choice of Israel, and replace them in their own land: and the strangers shall be joined unto them, and they shall attach themselves to the house of Jacob.
Le moment arrive, et il ne tardera point, où le Seigneur aura pitié de Jacob, où Israël sera encore son élu; alors ils reposeront dans leur terre, et l'étranger viendra se joindre à eux, et s'unira à la maison de Jacob,
2 And nations shall take them, and bring them to their own place; but the house of Israel shall obtain possession of them in the land of the Lord for men-servants and for maid-servants; and they shall take captive their captors, and they shall rule over their oppressors.
Et les Gentils se les adjoindront et ils les introduiront dans leur pays; et les enfants d'Israël auront leur héritage, et y multiplieront leurs serviteurs et leurs servantes; et ceux qui les avaient tenus captifs seront leurs captifs à leur tour, et ceux qui les avaient dominés seront dominés par eux.
3 And it shall come to pass on the day when the Lord will give thee rest from thy trouble, and from thy vexation, and from the hard bondage wherein thou wast made to serve,
Et voici ce qui arrivera en ce jour: le Seigneur apaisera ta douleur, et ton humiliation, et la dure servitude à laquelle ils t'avaient assujetti.
4 That thou wilt take up this parable against the king of Babylon, and say, How hath ceased the oppressor! ceased the exactress of gold!
Et tu composeras cette lamentation sur le roi de Babylone: Comment est mort cet exacteur? Comment est mort ce maître impitoyable?
5 Broken hath the Lord the staff of the wicked, the sceptre of rulers;
Le Seigneur a brisé le joug des impies, le joug des dominateurs.
6 He who smote people in wrath, blows without intermission, he that ruled in anger nations, persecuting without restraint.
Il a frappé avec colère cette nation d'une plaie incurable, puis il l'a renversée dans sa colère et ne l'a point épargnée.
7 At rest, quiet is all the earth; men break forth into loud song.
Et toute la terre s'est reposée avec confiance et a poussé des cris de joie;
8 Also, the fir-trees rejoice at thee, the cedars of Lebanon, “Since thou wast laid low, no feller is come up against us.”
Et les arbres du Liban se sont réjouis de ta chute; et le cèdre du Liban, depuis que tu es mort, dit: Celui qui nous abattait ne monte plus ici!
9 The nether world from below is in motion concerning thee to meet thee at thy coming: it stirreth up the departed for thee, all the chief ones of the earth; it hath caused to rise up from their thrones all the kings of nations. (Sheol h7585)
L'enfer en ses abîmes s'est troublé à ton approche; et ils se sont levés ensemble contre toi, tous les géants, jadis princes de la terre, qui faisaient descendre de leurs trônes tous les rois des nations. (Sheol h7585)
10 They all will commence and say unto thee, “Thou—thou also art become weak like us; similar unto us art thou become!”
Ils te parleront tous et te diront: Te voilà pris comme nous, et te voilà l'un des nôtres!
11 Into the nether world is brought down thy pride, the clatter of thy psalteries: beneath thee is spread the worm, and thy cover is the moth. (Sheol h7585)
Ta gloire et ta longue prospérité sont descendues aux enfers; la pourriture est ta couche, les vers ta couverture. (Sheol h7585)
12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O morning-star, son of the dawn! how art thou hewn down to the ground, crusher of nations!
Comment est tombée des cieux l'étoile du matin qui se levait dès l'aurore? Comment a été brisé contre terre celui qui commandait à toutes les nations?
13 And thou—thou hadst said in thy heart, “Into heaven will I ascend, above the stars of God will I exalt my throne; and I will sit also upon the mount of the assembly, in the farthest end of the north;
Tu disais dans ton cœur: Je monterai au ciel; je placerai mon trône au- dessus des astres; je m'assoirai sur une haute montagne, sur ces hautes montagnes qui s'étendent vers l'aquilon.
14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be equal to the Most High.”
Je monterai au-dessus des nuages; je serai semblable au Très-Haut.
Et maintenant tu es descendu en enfer, et jusqu'aux fondements de la terre. (Sheol h7585)
16 They that see thee will gaze at thee, will regard thee well, [saying, ] “Is this the man that caused the earth to tremble, that made kingdoms quake?
Ceux qui t'ont vu seront étonnés de ta chute, et ils diront: Voilà cet homme qui exaspérait la terre, qui ébranlait les rois;
17 That rendered the world as a wilderness, and pulled down its cities: never opened the prison-house of his prisoners?”
Qui avait fait de toute la terre une solitude, qui en détruisait les cités, et qui ne délivrait pas ceux qu'il avait faits captifs.
18 All the kings of nations, all of them, lie in glory, every one in his own [eternal] house.
Tous les rois des nations se sont endormis dans la mort, tous avec honneur et dans leurs palais.
19 But thou—thou art cast out of thy grave like a discarded offshoot, as a garment of those that are slain, pierced by the sword, that go down to the stones of the pit, as a carcass trodden under foot.
Mais toi, tu seras jeté dans les montagnes, comme un cadavre impur, avec une multitude de morts percés du glaive et descendus aux enfers. Comme un manteau souillé de sang ne peut être pur,
20 Thou shalt not be united with them in burial; because thy land hast thou destroyed, thy people hast thou slain: to eternity shall not be called the seed of evil-doers.
Ainsi tu seras impur; et parce que tu as désolé ma terre et tué mon peuple, toi, semence perverse, tu ne subsisteras pas longtemps!
21 Prepare for his children the slaughter, for the iniquity of their fathers: that they may not rise, and possess the land, and fill the face of the world with enemies [of mankind].
Prépare tes enfants pour qu'on les égorge en punition du péché de leur père; qu'ils ne se relèvent pas, qu'ils n'héritent pas de leur royaume, qu'ils ne remplissent pas la terre du bruit de leurs batailles.
22 And I will rise up against them, saith the Lord of hosts; and I will cut off from Babylon name, and remnant, and son, and grandson, saith the Lord.
Et je m'élèverai contre eux, dit le Seigneur des armées, et je détruirai leur nom, leurs restes et leur race. Voilà ce que dit le Seigneur.
23 I will also make it a possession for the hedgehog, and pools of water: and I will sweep it with the besom of destruction, saith the Lord of hosts.
Et je ferai de là Babylonie un désert, une demeure pour les hérissons; et je la réduirai au néant; et j'en ferai pour la perdre un abîme de fange.
24 Sworn hath the Lord of hosts, saying, Surely as I have purposed, so doth it come to pass; and as I have resolved, so shall it occur:
Or voici ce que dit le Seigneur des armées: Comme j'ai dit, il sera fait; ce que j'ai résolu s'accomplira.
25 To break Asshur in my own land, and upon my mountains will I tread him under foot; then shall his yoke be removed from off them, and his burden from off their shoulders.
Je détruirai les Assyriens sur ma terre et sur mes montagnes; et ils seront foulés aux pieds; et mon peuple sera délivré de leur joug, et leur gloire à eux sera enlevée de leurs épaules.
26 This is the resolve that is resolved over all the earth: and this is the hand that is stretched out over all the nations.
Voilà le dessein que le Seigneur a décrété sur toute la terre, et voilà sa main levée sur toutes les nations.
27 For the Lord of hosts hath resolved, and who shall frustrate it? and it is his hand which is stretched out, and who shall turn it back?
Et ce que le Dieu saint a décrété, qui pourra s'y opposer? Sa main levée, qui la détournera?
28 In the year king Achaz died was this prophecy [given].
C'est l'année où mourut le roi Achaz que cette parole a été prédite:
29 Rejoice not, thou entire Palestine, because the rod of him that smote thee is broken; for out of the serpent's root shall come forth an adder, and its fruit shall be a flying dragon.
Ne vous réjouissez pas, ô Philistins, de ce que le joug de celui qui vous frappait a été brisé; car d'une race de serpents sortira une famille d'aspics, et de cette famille sortiront des serpents ailés.
30 And the first-born of the poor shall feed, and the needy shall rest in safety: and I will kill with famine thy root, and men shall slay thy remnant.
Et les pauvres seront nourris par le Seigneur; les pauvres se reposeront en paix; tandis qu'il fera mourir de faim ta race, et détruira tes restes.
31 Wail, O gate; cry out, O city; thou art dissolved, O thou entire Palestine; for from the north a smoke is coming, and there is no one solitary among those that are bidden to come.
Poussez des cris de douleur, portes des cités; que vos villes, ô Philistins, jettent des cris d'épouvante; car de l'aquilon vient un tourbillon de fumée, et nul ne peut y échapper.
32 And what will each one of the messengers of the nation answer? That the Lord hath founded Zion; and that therein shall find protection the poor of his people.
Et que répondront les rois des nations? Que le Seigneur a fondé Sion, et que, par lui, les humbles de son peuple seront sauvés.
