Hosea 4
1 Hear the word of the Lord, ye children of Israel; for the Lord hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land; because there is no truth, nor kindness, nor knowledge of God in the land.
Ouvi a palavra do Senhor, vós, filhos de Israel, porque o Senhor tem uma contenda com os habitantes da terra, porque não ha verdade, nem benignidade, nem conhecimento de Deus na terra.
2 There is false swearing, and lying, and murdering, and stealing, and committing adultery: they break the bounds, and blood toucheth on blood.
Mas o perjurar, e o mentir, e o matar, e o furtar, e o adulterar, prevalecem, e os homicidios se tocaram com homicidios.
3 Therefore shall the land mourn, and every one that dwelleth therein shall languish, with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of the heaven; yea, also the fishes of the sea shall perish.
Por isso a terra se lamentará, e qualquer que morar n'ella desfallecerá, com os animaes do campo e com as aves do céu; e até os peixes do mar serão tirados.
4 Yet let no man strive, let no man reprove another: and thy people are contentious equally with the priest.
Porém ninguem contenda, nem reprehenda a alguem, porque o teu povo é como os que contendem com o sacerdote.
5 Therefore shalt thou stumble in the daytime, and the prophet also shall stumble with thee in the night; and I will destroy thy mother.
Por isso cairás de dia, e o propheta comtigo cairá de noite, e destruirei a tua mãe.
6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; because thou hast rejected knowledge, so will I also reject thee, that thou shalt not be a priest to me; and as thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, so will I myself also forget thy children.
O meu povo foi destruido, porque lhe faltou o conhecimento: porque tu rejeitaste o conhecimento, tambem eu te rejeitarei, para que não sejas sacerdote diante de mim; e, visto que te esqueceste da lei do teu Deus, tambem eu me esquecerei de teus filhos.
7 The more they increased, the more did they sin against me: therefore will I change their glory into shame.
Assim como elles se multiplicaram, assim contra mim peccaram: eu mudarei a sua honra em vergonha.
8 The sin-offering of my people do they eat, and for their iniquity doth the soul of each one of them long.
Comem do peccado do meu povo, e da sua maldade d'elle teem desejo ardente.
9 Therefore shall the same befall both people and priest: and I will punish every one of them for his ways, and recompense every one for his doings.
Portanto, como o povo, assim será o sacerdote; e visitarei sobre elle os seus caminhos, e lhe recompensarei as suas obras.
10 And they will eat, and shall not be satisfied; they will commit lewdness, and they shall not increase; because the Lord have they forsaken [not] keeping [his law].
Comerão, mas não se fartarão; fornicarão, mas não se multiplicarão; porque deixaram de olhar para o Senhor.
11 Lewdness and wine and new wine take away the heart.
A fornicação, e o vinho, e o mosto tiram o coração.
12 My people ask counsel of their stick of wood, and their staff shall tell them [the future]: for the spirit of lewdness hath caused them to err, and they are gone astray unfaithful to their God.
O meu povo consulta a sua madeira, e a sua vara lhe responde, porque o espirito de fornicações os engana, e fornicam, apartando-se da sujeição do seu Deus.
13 Upon the tops of the mountains do they sacrifice, and upon the hills burn they incense, under oaks and poplars and terebinths, because their shadow is good: therefore will your daughters play the harlot, and your daughter-in-law will commit adultery.
Sacrificam sobre os cumes dos montes, e queimam incenso sobre os outeiros, debaixo do carvalho, e do alamo, e do olmeiro, porque é boa a sua sombra: por isso vossas filhas fornicam, e as vossas noras adulteram.
14 I cannot inflict punishment on your daughters when they play the harlot, nor on your daughters-in-law when they commit adultery; for they themselves associate with lewd women, and with harlots do they sacrifice: and so doth the people that doth not understand stumble.
Porventura não visitarei sobre vossas filhas, que fornicam, nem sobre vossas noras, que adulteram, porque elles mesmos com as prostitutas se desviam, e com as meretrizes sacrificam; pois o povo que não tem entendimento será transtornado.
15 Yet though thou play the harlot, O Israel, let not Judah offend: and come not ye unto Gilgal, nor go ye up to Beth-aven, nor swear, As the Lord liveth.
Se tu, ó Israel, queres fornicar, ao menos não se faça culpado Judah: não venhaes a Gilgal, e não subaes a Beth-aven, e não jureis, dizendo: Vive o Senhor.
16 For like an untamable cow is Israel disobedient: now would the Lord have fed them as a sheep in a wide pasture.
Porque como uma vacca rebelde se rebellou Israel: agora o Senhor os apascentará como a um cordeiro n'um logar espaçoso.
17 Ephraim is bound to idols: let him alone.
Ephraim é dado a idolos; deixa-o.
18 Their drinking bout will come to an end: while they are so often guilty of lewdness, their rulers love, prepare themselves but shame.
A sua bebida se foi: fornicando, fornicam; certamente amaram a vergonha os seus principes.
19 The wind seizeth fast on them with its wings, and they shall be ashamed because of their sacrifices.
Um vento os atou nas suas azas, e envergonhar-se-hão por causa dos seus sacrificios.
