Genesis 39
1 And Joseph was brought down to Egypt; and Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, the captain of the guards, an Egyptian, bought him of the hands of the Ishmaelites, who had brought him down thither.
So war Joseph nach Ägypten gebracht worden. Da kaufte ihn Potiphar, Pharaos Kämmerer und Oberster der Leibwächter, ein ägyptischer Mann, von den Ismaelitern, die ihn dorthin gebracht hatten.
2 And the Lord was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was thus in the house of his master the Egyptian.
Der Herr aber war mit Joseph, und so ward er ein Mann, dem alles gelang. Da er im Hause seines ägyptischen Herrn blieb,
3 And when his master saw that the Lord was with him, and that the Lord caused all that he did to prosper in his hand:
sah sein Herr, daß der Herr mit ihm sei und daß der Herr ihm alles, was er vornahm, gelingen ließ.
4 Joseph found grace in his eyes, and he served him; and he made him overseer over his house, and all that he had he put into his hand.
So fand Joseph in seinen Augen Gnade und durfte ihn bedienen. Dann setzte er ihn als Verwalter über sein Haus und vertraute ihm sein ganzes Eigentum.
5 And it came to pass from the time he had made him overseer in his house, and over all that he had, that the Lord blessed the Egyptian's house for the sake of Joseph; and the blessing of the Lord was upon all that he had, in the house and in the field.
Und seitdem er ihn über sein Haus bestellt und all sein Eigentum ihm anvertraut hatte, segnete der Herr das Haus des Ägypters um Josephs willen. Und des Herrn Segen ruhte auf seinem Eigentum in Haus und Feld.
6 And he left all that he had in Joseph's hand; and he troubled himself not about aught he had, save the bread which he did eat. And Joseph was handsome in form and handsome in appearance.
So überließ er all sein Eigentum Joseph und kümmerte sich bei ihm um nichts als um die Speise, die er genoß. Joseph aber ward schön von Gestalt und Antlitz.
7 And it came to pass after these things, that his master's wife cast her eyes upon Joseph; and she said, Lie with me.
Nach diesen Begebnissen geschah es, daß seines Herrn Weib die Augen zu Joseph erhob und sprach: "Leg dich zu mir!"
8 But he refused, and said unto his master's wife, Behold, Thy master troubleth himself not about what is with me in the house, and he hath committed all that he hath into my hand;
Er aber weigerte sich und sprach zu seines Herrn Weib: "Sieh! Mein Herr kümmert sich bei mir um nichts im Hause; all sein Eigentum hat er mir übergeben.
9 There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great evil, and sin against God?
Niemand ist in diesem Hause größer als ich. Gar nichts hat er mir vorenthalten als dich, weil du sein Weib bist. Wie sollte ich nun dieses schwere Unrecht tun, daß ich mich wider Gott versündigte?"
10 And it came to pass, as she spoke to Joseph day by day, and he hearkened not unto her, to lie by her, or to be with her;
Sie redete aber Tag für Tag auf Joseph ein. Er aber war ihr nicht zu Willen, sich zu ihr zu legen und mit ihr beisammen zu sein.
11 That it came to pass one particular day, that he went into the house to do his business; and there was none of the men of the house there within.
Da geschah es an einem solchen Tage, daß er ins Haus kam, seine Arbeit zu tun; vom Hausgesinde aber war keines dort im Gemach.
12 And she caught him by his garment, saying, Lie with me; and he left his garment in her hand, and fled, and ran out into the street.
Da packte sie ihn am Gewand und sprach: "Leg dich zu mir!" Er aber ließ sein Gewand in ihrer Hand und floh hinaus ins Freie.
13 And it came to pass, when she saw that he had left his garment in her hand, and was fled forth,
Als sie sah, daß er sein Gewand in ihrer Hand gelassen und ins Freie geflohen war,
14 That she called unto the men of her house, and spoke unto them, saying, See, he hath brought in unto us a Hebrew man to have his sport with us; he came in unto me to lie with me, and I cried with a loud voice:
rief sie ihr Hausgesinde herbei und sprach zu ihm: "Seht! Da hat man uns einen hebräischen Mann gebracht, daß er seinen Mutwillen mit uns treibe. Er kam zu mir herein und wollte sich zu mir legen; da schrie ich laut.
15 And it came to pass, when he heard that I lifted up my voice and cried, that he left his garment with me, and fled, and ran out into the street.
Wie er aber hörte, daß ich lautes Geschrei erhob, ließ er sein Kleid bei mir, floh und lief ins Freie."
16 And she laid up his garment by her until his lord came home.
Und sie legte sein Gewand neben sich, bis sein Herr heimkäme.
17 And she spoke unto him according to these words, saying, The Hebrew servant whom thou hast brought unto us, came in unto me to have his sport with me.
Da berichtete sie ihm das gleiche und sprach: "Kommt da der hebräische Sklave, den du uns hergebracht, zu mir herein und will seinen Mutwillen mit mir treiben.
18 And it came to pass, as I lifted up my voice and cried, that he left his garment with me, and fled forth.
Wie ich aber laut schrie, ließ er sein Kleid bei mir und floh ins Freie."
19 And it came to pass, when his master heard the words of his wife, which she spoke unto him, saying, After this manner hath thy servant done to me; that his wrath was kindled.
Als der Herr seines Weibes Erzählung vernahm, die sie ihm vorgetragen: "Also hat dein Sklave mir getan", da ward er sehr zornig.
20 And Joseph's master took him, and put him into the prison, the place where the king's prisoners were imprisoned: and he was there in the prison.
Und Josephs Herr ließ ihn ergreifen und ins Gefängnis werfen, dahin, wo die Königsgefangenen saßen. Und so lag er dort im Kerker.
21 But the Lord was with Joseph, and caused him to find kindness, and gave him favor in the eyes of the superintendent of the prison.
Aber der Herr war mit Joseph und wandte ihm Huld zu. Er verschaffte ihm die Gunst des Oberkerkermeisters.
22 And the superintendent of the prison committed into Joseph's hand all the prisoners that were in the prison; and whatsoever they did there, was done through him.
Und der Oberkerkermeister vertraute Joseph alle Gefangenen im Kerker an, und alles, was man dort zu tun hatte, besorgte er.
23 The superintendent of the prison looked not after the least that was under his hand, because the Lord was with him; and that which he did, the Lord made to prosper.
Der Oberkerkermeister aber kümmerte sich um gar nichts, was durch jenen geschah, weil der Herr mit ihm war und der Herr alles, was er vornahm, gelingen ließ.
