Genesis 32
1 And Jacob went on his way, and there met him angels of God.
Jákób tovább méne az ő útján, és szembe jövének vele az Isten Angyalai.
2 And when Jacob saw them, he said, This is a host of God; and he called the name of that place Machanayim.
És monda Jákób mikor azokat látja vala: Isten tábora ez; és nevezé annak a helynek nevét Mahanáimnak.
3 And Jacob sent messengers before him to Esau his brother unto the land of Seir, the country of Edom.
Azután külde Jákób követeket maga előtt Ézsaúhoz az ő bátyjához, Széir földébe, Edóm mezőségébe,
4 And he commanded them, saying, Thus shall ye speak unto my lord, to Esau, Thus hath said thy servant Jacob, With Laban have I sojourned, and stayed until now.
És parancsola azoknak mondván: Így szóljatok az én uramnak Ézsaúnak: Ezt mondja a te szolgád Jákób: Lábánnál tartózkodtam és időztem mind ekkorig.
5 And I have acquired oxen, and asses, flocks, and men-servants, and women-servants; and I send now to tell my lord, to find grace in thy eyes.
Vannak pedig nékem ökreim és szamaraim, juhaim, szolgáim és szolgálóim, azért híradásul követséget küldök az én uramhoz, hogy kedvet találjak szemeid előtt.
6 And the messengers returned to Jacob, saying, We came to thy brother, to Esau, and also he cometh to meet thee, and four hundred men with him.
És megtérének Jákóbhoz a követek, mondván: Elmentünk vala a te atyádfiához Ézsaúhoz, és már jön is elődbe, és négyszáz férfi van vele.
7 Then Jacob was greatly afraid, and he felt distressed; and he divided the people that were with him, and the flocks, and the herds, and the camels, into two bands.
Igen megíjede Jákób és féltében a népet, mely vele vala, a juhokat, a barmokat és a tevéket két seregre osztá.
8 And he said, If Esau should come to the one band and smite it, then the other band which is left may escape.
És monda: Ha eljön Ézsaú az egyik seregre, és azt levágja, a hátramaradt sereg megszabadul.
9 And Jacob said, O God of my father Abraham, and God of my father Isaac, the Lord who saidst unto me, Return unto thy country, and to thy birthplace, and I will deal well with thee:
És monda Jákób: Óh én atyámnak Ábrahámnak Istene, és én atyámnak Izsáknak Istene, Jehova! ki azt mondád nékem: Térj vissza hazádba, a te rokonságod közé, s jól tészek veled:
10 I am not worthy of all the kindness, and of all the truth, which thou hast shown unto thy servant; for with my staff I passed over this Jordan; and now I am become two bands.
Kisebb vagyok minden te jótéteményednél és minden te hűségednél, a melyeket a te szolgáddal cselekedtél; mert csak pálczámmal mentem vala által ezen a Jordánon, most pedig két sereggé lettem.
11 Deliver me, I pray thee, from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau; for I fear him, lest he will come and smite me, the mother with the children.
Szabadíts meg, kérlek, engem az én bátyám kezéből, Ézsaú kezéből; mert félek ő tőle, hogy rajtam üt és levág engem, az anyát a fiakkal egybe.
12 And thou saidst, I will surely do thee good, and make thy seed as the sand of the sea, which cannot be numbered for multitude.
Te pedig azt mondottad: Jól tévén jól tészek te veled, és a te magodat olyanná tészem mint a tenger fövénye, mely meg nem számláltathatik sokasága miatt.
13 And he lodged there that same night; and he took of that which he carried with him a present for Esau his brother:
És ott hála azon éjjel: és választa abból, a mi kezénél vala, ajándékot Ézsaúnak az ő bátyjának:
14 Two hundred she-goats, and twenty he-goats, two hundred ewes, and twenty rams.
Kétszáz kecskét, és húsz bakot; kétszáz juhot, és húsz kost;
15 Thirty milch camels with their colts, forty cows, and ten bulls, twenty she-asses, and ten foals.
Harmincz szoptatós tevét s azok fiait; negyven tehenet, és tíz tulkot: húsz nőstény szamarat, és tíz szamár vemhet.
16 And he delivered them into the hand of his servants, every drove by itself; and he said unto his servants, Pass on before me, and put a space between drove and drove.
És szolgái kezébe adá, minden nyájat külön-külön, és monda az ő szolgáinak: Menjetek el én előttem, és közt hagyjatok nyáj és nyáj között.
17 And he commanded the foremost, saying, When Esau my brother should meet thee, and ask thee, saying, Whose art thou? and whither art thou going? and for whom are these before thee?
És parancsola az elsőnek, mondván: Ha az én bátyám Ézsaú előtalál és megkérdez téged, mondván: Ki embere vagy? Hová mégy? És kiéi ezek előtted?
18 Then shalt thou say, They belong to thy servant, to Jacob; it is a present sent unto my lord, to Esau; and, behold, also, he is himself behind us.
Akkor azt mondjad: Szolgádé Jákóbé; ajándék az, a melyet küld az én uramnak Ézsaúnak, és ímé ő maga is jön utánunk.
19 And so he commanded also the second, also the third, as also all that followed the droves, saying, After this manner shall ye speak unto Esau, when ye find him.
Ugyanazt parancsolá a másiknak, a harmadiknak, és mindazoknak, kik a nyájak után mennek vala, mondván: Ilyen szóval szóljatok Ézsaúnak, mikor vele találkoztok.
20 And say ye moreover, Behold, also thy servant Jacob is behind us. For he said, I will appease him with the present that goeth before me, and afterward I will see his face; peradventure he will receive me kindly.
Ezt is mondjátok: Ímé Jákób a te szolgád utánunk jő; mert így gondolkodik vala: Megengesztelem őt az ajándékkal, mely előttem megy, és azután leszek szembe vele, talán kedves lesz személyem előtte.
21 The present went thus on before him; and he lodged himself that night in the camp.
Előlméne tehát az ajándék; ő pedig azon éjjel a seregnél hála.
22 And he rose up that night, and he took his two wives, and his two women-servants, and his eleven sons, and passed over the ford of the Yabbok.
Felkele pedig ő azon éjszaka és vevé két feleségét, két szolgálóját és tizenegy gyermekét, és általméne a Jabbók révén.
23 And he took them, and sent them over the stream and sent over what he had.
Vevé hát azokat és átköltözteté a vízen, azután átköltözteté mindenét valamije vala.
24 And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day.
Jákób pedig egyedűl marada és tusakodik vala ő vele egy férfiú, egész a hajnal feljöveteléig.
25 And when he saw that he could net prevail against him, he struck against the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob's thigh was put out of joint, as he was wrestling with him.
Aki mikor látá, hogy nem vehet rajta erőt, megilleté csípőjének forgócsontját, és kiméne helyéből Jákób csípőjének forgócsontja a vele való tusakodás közben.
26 And he said, Let me go, for the day hath dawned. And he said, I will not let thee go until thou hast blessed me.
És monda: Bocsáss el engem, mert feljött a hajnal. És monda Jákób: Nem bocsátlak el téged, míg meg nem áldasz engemet.
27 And he said unto him, What is thy name? and he said, Jacob.
És monda néki: Mi a te neved? És ő monda: Jákób.
28 And he said, Not Jacob shall any more be called thy name, but Israel; for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.
Amaz pedig monda: Nem Jákóbnak mondatik ezután a te neved, hanem Izráelnek; mert küzdöttél Istennel és emberekkel, és győztél.
29 And Jacob asked him, and said, tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there.
És megkérdé Jákób, és monda: Mondd meg, kérlek, a te nevedet. Az pedig monda: Ugyan miért kérded az én nevemet? És megáldá őt ott.
30 And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen an angel of God face to face, and my life hath been preserved.
Nevezé azért Jákób annak a helynek nevét Peniélnek: mert látám az Istent színről színre, és megszabadult az én lelkem.
31 And the sun rose unto him as he passed by Penuel, and he halted upon his thigh.
És a nap felkél vala rajta, amint elméne Peniél mellett, ő pedig sántít vala csípőjére.
32 Therefore do the children of Israel not eat the sinew which shrank, which is upon the hollow of the thigh, unto this day; because he struck against the hollow of Jacob's thigh on the sinew that shrank.
Azért nem eszik Izráel fiai a csípő forgócsontjának inahúsát mind e mai napig, mivelhogy illetve vala Jákób csípője forgócsontjának inahúsa.
