Genesis 31

1 And he heard the words of Laban's sons, saying, Jacob hath taken away all that was our father's, and of that which was our father's hath he gotten all this wealth.

Er vernahm aber die Reden der Labansöhne, die sagten: "Jakob bringt die ganze Habe unseres Vaters an sich; von dem, was unseres Vaters war, hat er all diesen Reichtum geschaffen."

2 And Jacob beheld the countenance of Laban, and, behold, it was not toward him as before.

Jakob sah auch an Labans Angesicht, daß er nicht mehr so wie früher gegen ihn war.

3 And the Lord said unto Jacob, Return unto the land of thy fathers, and to thy birthplace; and I will be with thee.

Da sprach der Herr zu Jakob: "Kehr in deiner Väter Land zurück, zu deiner Verwandtschaft! Ich will mit dir sein."

4 And Jacob sent and called Rachel and Leah to the field unto his flock.

Da sandte Jakob und rief Rachel und Lea aufs Feld zu seiner Herde.

5 And he said unto them, I see your father's countenance, that it is not toward me as before; but the God of my father hath been with me.

Er sprach zu ihnen: "Ich sehe an eures Vaters Angesicht, daß er zu mir nicht mehr so ist wie früher, und doch ist meines Vaters Gott mit mir.

6 And ye know well that with all my power I have served your father.

Ihr wißt aber, daß ich mit all meiner Kraft eurem Vater gedient habe.

7 And your father hath deceived me, and changed my wages ten times: but God suffered him not to do me evil.

Doch euer Vater hat mich betrogen und mir den Lohn zehnmal geändert. Aber Gott hat ihm nicht verstattet, mich zu schädigen.

8 If he said thus, The speckled shall be thy wages: then bore all the flocks speckled: and if he said thus, The ring-streaked shall be thy reward; then bore all the flocks ring-streaked.

Sprach er: 'Die Gesprenkelten seien dein Lohn!', dann warfen alle Tiere Gesprenkelte. Und sprach er: 'Die Gestreiften seien dein Lohn!', dann warfen alle Tiere Gestreifte.

9 Thus God took away the cattle of your father, and gave them to me.

So entzog Gott das Vieh eurem Vater und gab es mir.

10 And it came to pass at the time that the flocks conceived, that I lifted up my eyes, and saw in a dream, and, behold, the rams which leaped upon the flocks were ring-streaked, speckled, and grizzled.

Es war in der Brunstzeit der Tiere, da erhob ich meine Augen und sah im Traum, wie die Böcke die Schafe bespringen, gestreift, gesprenkelt und gescheckt.

11 And an angel of God spoke unto me in the dream, Jacob: and I said, Here am I.

Und Gottes Engel sprach zu mir im Traum: 'Jakob!' Ich sprach: 'Hier bin ich.'

12 And he said, Lift up now thy eyes and see, all the rams which leap upon the flocks are ring-streaked, speckled, and grizzled; for I have seen all that Laban doth unto thee.

Er sprach: 'Hebe deine Augen und sieh: Alle Böcke, die die Schafe bespringen, sind gestreift, gesprenkelt und gescheckt. Ich sehe ja alles, was Laban dir tut.

13 I am the God of Beth-el, where thou anointedst a pillar, where thou madest unto me a vow: now arise, get thee out from this land, and return unto the land of thy birth.

Ich bin der Herr, der Gott von Betel, wo du ein Steinmal gesalbt und mir ein Gelübde gemacht. Nun auf! Zieh aus diesem Land und kehr in dein Heimatland zurück!"'

14 And Rachel and Leah answered and said unto him, Is there yet any portion or inheritance for us in our father's house?

Da antworteten Rachel und Lea und sprachen zu ihm: "Haben wir noch Teil und Erbe im Hause unseres Vaters?

15 Were we not counted of him as strangers? for he hath sold us; and he hath quite consumed also our money.

Gelten wir ihm nicht als Fremde? Er hat uns ja verhandelt. Soll er auch unseren Erlös verzehren dürfen?

16 For all the riches which God hath taken from our father, that is ours, and our children's; now then, whatsoever God hath said unto thee, do.

Ja, all der Reichtum, den Gott unserem Vater entzogen, gehört uns und unseren Kindern. Tu also ganz, wie Gott zu dir gesagt!"

17 Then Jacob rose up, and set his sons and his wives upon camels;

Da erhob sich Jakob, hob seine Kinder und Weiber auf die Kamele

18 And he led away all his cattle, and all his goods which he had gotten, the cattle of his acquiring, which he had gotten in Padan-aram, to go to Isaac his father into the land of Canaan.

und führte all sein Vieh weg und all seine Habe, die er erworben, das Vieh seines Besitzes, das er zu Paddan Aram erworben, um zu seinem Vater Isaak ins Land Kanaan zu ziehen.

19 And Laban was gone to shear his sheep; and Rachel stole the images that were her father's.

Während Laban ging, seine Schafe zu scheren, stahl Rachel ihres Vaters Teraphim.

20 And Jacob stole away unawares to Laban the Syrian, by not letting him know that he was going to flee.

Jakob aber überlistete Laban, den Aramäer; durch nichts hatte er ihn ahnen lassen, daß er fliehen wollte.

21 And he fled with all that he had; and he rose up, and passed over the river, and set his face toward the mount Gilead.

So floh er mit all seiner Habe. Er brach auf und setzte über den Strom und nahm die Richtung auf das Gebirge Gilead.

22 And it was told to Laban on the third day that Jacob was fled.

Am dritten Tage bekam Laban die Kunde, Jakob sei entflohen.

23 And he took his brethren with him, and pursued after him a seven days' journey; and he overtook him at the mount of Gilead.

Da nahm er seine Brüder mit, verfolgte ihn sieben Tagereisen und holte ihn auf dem Gebirge Gilead ein.

24 And God came to Laban, the Syrian, in a dream of the night, and said unto him, Take thou heed that thou speak not to Jacob either good or bad.

Da kam Gott zu Laban, dem Aramäer, nachts im Traum und sprach zu ihm: "Hüte dich, mit Jakob herausfordernd zum Bösen zu reden!"

25 Then Laban overtook Jacob; now Jacob had pitched his tent on the mount, and Laban with his brethren pitched on the mount of Gilead.

Als Laban Jakob erreichte, hatte Jakob auf dem Berge sein Zelt aufgeschlagen; Laban aber schlug es mit seinen Brüdern auf dem Gebirge Gilead auf.

26 And Laban said to Jacob, What hast thou done, that thou hast stolen away unawares to me, and led away my daughters, as captives taken with the sword.

Und Laban sprach zu Jakob: "Was hast du getan, daß du mich überlistet und meine Töchter wie Kriegsgefangene fortgeführt hast?

27 Wherefore didst thou flee away secretly, and steal away from me; and why didst thou not tell me, that I might have sent thee away with mirth, and with songs, with tabret, and with harp?

Warum bist du heimlich geflohen und hast mich bestohlen? Warum hast du's mir nicht kundgetan? Dann hätte ich dir mit Jauchzen und Singen, mit Pauken und Zithern das Geleite gegeben.

28 And [why] hast thou not suffered me to kiss my sons and my daughters? now thou hast acted foolishly in so doing.

Warum hast du mich nicht zum Abschied meine Enkel und meine Töchter küssen lassen? Nun, du hast recht töricht gehandelt.

29 It is in the power of my hand to do you hurt; but the God of your father spoke unto me yesternight, saying, Take thou heed that thou speak not to Jacob either good or bad.

Ich habe die Macht, euch übel zu tun. Aber deines Vaters Gott hat gestern Nacht zu mir gesprochen: 'Hüte dich, mit Jakob herausfordernd zum Bösen zu reden!'

30 And now, thou wouldst needs be gone, because thou greatly longedst after thy father's house; [yet] wherefore hast thou stolen my gods.

Nun bist du eben fortgezogen, weil du dich nach deinem Vaterhause gesehnt hast. Warum hast du aber meine Götter gestohlen?"

31 And Jacob answered and said to Laban, Because I was afraid, for I said, Peradventure thou wouldst take by force thy daughters from me.

Da antwortete Jakob und sprach zu Laban: "Wohl! Ich habe Angst gehabt, weil ich gedacht habe, du könntest deine Töchter mir entreißen.

32 With whomsoever thou findest thy gods, let him not live; before our brethren seek out thou what is thine with me, and take it to thee; but Jacob knew not that Rachel had stolen them.

Bei wem du aber deine Götter findest, der soll nicht länger leben. Erkennst du im Beisein unserer Brüder etwas als dein eigen, dann nimm es an dich!" Jakob aber wußte nicht, daß Rachel sie gestohlen hatte.

33 And Laban went into the tent of Jacob, and into the tent of Leah, and into the tent of the two maid-servants; but he found nothing; he then went out of the tent of Leah, and entered into Rachel's tent.

So kam Laban in Jakobs und in Leas Zelt sowie in das Zelt der beiden Mägde, fand aber nichts; dann ging er aus Leas Zelt und kam in das der Rachel.

34 Now Rachel had taken the images, and put them in the saddle-cushion of the camel, and sat upon them; and Laban searched all the tent, and found nothing.

Rachel aber hatte die Teraphim genommen und legte sie in die Kamelsänfte und setzte sich auf sie. Laban durchstöberte das ganze Zelt, fand aber nichts.

35 And she said to her father, Let it not displease my lord that I cannot rise up before thee; for the custom of women is upon me; and thus he searched, but found not the images.

Da sprach sie zu ihrem Vater: "Sei nicht böse, mein Herr, daß ich vor dir nicht aufstehe! Mir ergeht es nach Weiberart." So suchte er, fand aber die Teraphim nicht.

36 Now Jacob became wroth, and quarrelled with Laban; and Jacob answered and said to Laban, What is my trespass? what is my sin, that thou hast so hotly pursued after me?

Da ward Jakob zornig und schalt Laban. Und Jakob hob an und sprach zu Laban: "Was ist mein Verbrechen? Was mein Vergehen, daß du hinter mir herhetzest

37 Although thou hast searched all my goods, what hast thou found of all the articles of thy household? set it here before my brethren and thy brethren, that they may judge between us both.

und mir all mein Gerät durchstöberst? Was hast du von all deinem Hausrat gefunden? Leg's her vor meine und vor deine Brüder, daß sie zwischen uns entscheiden!

38 These twenty years have I been with thee: thy ewes and thy she-goats have not cast their young; and the rams of thy flock have I not eaten.

Zwanzig Jahre bin ich so bei dir gewesen. Deine Mutterschafe und -ziegen haben nie einen Fehlwurf, und nie habe ich deiner Herde Widder verzehrt.

39 That which was torn of beasts I brought not unto thee; I had to bear the loss of it, of my hand didst thou require it, whatever was stolen by day, or stolen by night.

Zerrissenes habe ich nie vor dich bringen dürfen; ich mußte es ersetzen; von mir fordertest du es. So bin ich betrogen worden bei Tag und bei Nacht.

40 [Where] I was in the day the heat consumed me, and the frost by night; and my sleep departed from my eyes.

So ist es mir ergangen: Bei Tage hat mich die Hitze gefressen und der Frost bei Nacht. Meine Augen floh der Schlaf.

41 These twenty years have I been in thy house; I have served thee fourteen years for thy two daughters, and six years for thy flocks: and thou hast changed my wages ten times.

Volle zwanzig Jahre habe ich so in deinem Hause dir gedient, vierzehn Jahre um deine beiden Töchter und sechs um deine Schafe, und zehnmal ändertest du meinen Lohn.

42 Except the God of my father, the God of Abraham, and the Fear of Isaac, had been with me, surely thou hadst now sent me away empty; my affliction and the labor of my hands God hath seen, and decided yesternight.

Hätte ich nicht meines Vaters Gott gehabt, den Gott Abrahams und Isaaks Schrecken, leer hättest du mich ziehen lassen. Mein Abplagen und meiner Hände Mühen hat aber Gott gesehen und gestern nacht hat er entschieden."

43 And Laban answered and said unto Jacob, The daughters are my daughters, and the children are my children, and the flocks are my flocks, and all that thou seest is mine; but as to my daughters, what can I do unto them this day, or unto their children whom they have born?

Da erwiderte Laban und sprach zu Jakob: "Mein sind die Töchter, mein die Kinder, mein das Vieh, und alles, was du siehst, gehört mir, also meinen Töchtern. Was könnte ich heute diesen tun oder ihren Kindern, die sie geboren haben?

44 And now, come thou, let us make a covenant, I and thou; and let it be for a witness between me and thee.

Nun komm! Wir wollen einen Bund miteinander schließen. Der Herr sei Zeuge zwischen mir und dir!"

45 And Jacob took a stone, and set it up for a pillar.

Und Jakob nahm einen Stein und richtete ihn als Steinmal auf.

46 And Jacob said unto his brethren, Gather stones; and they took stones, and made a heap; and they ate there upon the heap.

Jakob aber sprach zu seinen Brüdern: "Sammelt Steine!" Da nahmen sie Steine und machten einen Wall. Und sie aßen dort auf dem Wall.

47 And Laban called it Yegar-sahadutha; but Jacob called it Galed.

Laban nannte ihn Jegar Sahaduta, und Jakob nannte ihn Galed.

48 And Laban said, This heap is a witness between me and thee this day; therefore called he its name Galed;

Da sprach Laban: "Dieser Wall ist heute Zeuge zwischen mir und dir." Deshalb nannte er ihn Galed.

49 And Mitzpah; for he said, The Lord shall watch between me and thee, when we are absent one from the other;

Auch Mispa, weil er sagte: "Der Herr wache zwischen mir und dir, wenn wir einander ferne sind.

50 If thou shouldst afflict my daughters, or if thou shouldst take other wives besides my daughters, when there is no man with us: see, God is witness between me and thee.

Ob du meine Töchter schlecht behandelst oder ob du noch andere Weiber zu meinen Töchtern nimmst, ist auch kein Mensch bei uns, bedenke: Zwischen mir und dir ist ein Gott Zeuge!"

51 And Laban said to Jacob, Behold this heap, and behold this pillar, which I have cast up between me and thee;

Ferner sprach Laban zu Jakob: "Hier dieser Wall und dieses Steinmal, das ich errichte zwischen mir und dir:

52 Witness be this heap and witness be this pillar, that I will not pass by this heap, and that thou shalt not pass unto me by this heap and this pillar, for evil.

Dieser Wall sei Zeuge und Zeuge dieses Steinmal! Ich darf diesen Wall zu dir nicht überschreiten, noch darfst du diesen Wall und dieses Steinmal zu mir überschreiten in böser Absicht.

53 The God of Abraham and the God of Nachor shall judge between us, the God of their father; but Jacob swore by the Fear of his father Isaac.

Zwischen uns richte der Gott Abrahams und Nachors Gott, der Gott ihrer Väter!" Da schwur Jakob beim Schrecken seines Vaters Isaak.

54 Then Jacob slew some cattle upon the mount, and called his brethren to eat bread; and they did eat bread, and tarried all night on the mount.

Dann schlachtete Jakob ein Schlachtopfer auf dem Berg und lud seine Brüder ein, das Mahl zu halten. Da hielten sie das Mahl und nächtigten auf dem Berg.

55 And early in the morning Laban rose up, and kissed his sons and his daughters and blessed them; and Laban departed, and returned unto his own place.

Frühmorgens aber küßte Laban seine Enkel und seine Töchter und segnete sie. Dann brach Laban auf und kehrte heim.
