Genesis 27
1 And it came to pass, when Isaac was old, and his eyes were too dim to see, that he called Esau his eldest son, and said unto him, My son: and he said unto him, Behold, here am I.
Et il arriva que quand Isaac fut devenu vieux, et que ses yeux furent si ternis qu'il ne pouvait plus voir, il appela Esaü son fils aîné, et lui dit: Mon fils! Lequel lui répondit: Me voici.
2 And he said, Behold now, I am grown old, I know not the day of my death:
Et il lui dit: Voici maintenant je suis devenu vieux, et je ne sais point le jour de ma mort.
3 Now therefore take, I pray thee, thy weapons, thy quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field, and hunt for me some venison;
Maintenant donc, je te prie, prends tes armes, ton carquois, et ton arc, et t'en va aux champs, et prends-moi de la venaison.
4 And make me savory food, such as I love, and bring it to me, that I may eat; that my soul may bless thee before I die.
Et m'apprête des viandes d'appétit comme je les aime, et apporte-les-moi, afin que je mange, et que mon âme te bénisse avant que je meure.
5 And Rebekah heard as Isaac was speaking to Esau his son. And Esau went to the field to hunt for venison, and to bring it.
Or Rébecca écoutait pendant qu'Isaac parlait à Esaü son fils. Esaü donc s'en alla aux champs pour prendre de la venaison, et l'apporter.
6 And Rebekah spoke unto Jacob her son, saying, Behold, I heard thy father speak unto Esau thy brother, saying,
Et Rébecca parla à Jacob son fils, et lui dit: Voici, j'ai ouï parler ton père à Esaü ton frère, disant:
7 Bring me venison, and make me savory food, that I may eat and bless thee before the Lord before my death.
Apporte-moi de la venaison, et m'apprête des viandes d'appétit, afin que j'en mange; et je te bénirai devant l'Eternel, avant que de mourir.
8 And now, my son, obey my voice in that which I command thee.
Maintenant donc, mon fils, obéis à ma parole, et fais ce que je te vais commander.
9 Go, I pray thee, to the flock, and fetch me from there two good kids; and I will make them savory food for thy father, such as he loveth:
Va maintenant à la bergerie, et prends-moi là deux bons chevreaux d'entre les chèvres, et j'en apprêterai des viandes d'appétit pour ton père, comme il les aime.
10 And thou shalt bring it to thy father, that he may eat; for the sake that he may bless thee before his death.
Et tu les porteras à ton père, afin qu'il les mange, et qu'il te bénisse, avant sa mort.
11 And Jacob said to Rebekah his mother, Behold, Esau my brother is a hairy man, and I am a smooth man:
Et Jacob répondit à Rébecca sa mère: Voici, Esaü mon frère est un homme velu, et je suis un homme sans poil.
12 Peradventure my father will feel me, and I shall then seem to him as a deceiver; and I would bring upon me a curse, and not a blessing.
Peut-être que mon père me tâtera, et il me regardera comme un homme qui l'a voulu tromper, et j'attirerai sur moi sa malédiction, et non pas sa bénédiction.
13 And his mother said unto him, Upon me be thy curse, my son; only obey my voice, and go fetch them to me.
Et sa mère lui dit: Mon fils, que la malédiction que tu [crains soit] sur moi! Obéis seulement à ma parole, et me va prendre [ce que je t'ai dit].
14 And he went, and fetched, and brought them to his mother: and his mother made savory food, such as his father loved.
Il s'en alla donc, et le prit, et il l'apporta à sa mère; et sa mère en apprêta des viandes d'appétit, comme son père les aimait.
15 And Rebekah took the goodly garments of her eldest son Esau, which were with her in the house, and clothed therewith Jacob her younger son;
Puis Rébecca prit les plus précieux habits d'Esaü son fils aîné, qu'elle avait dans la maison, et elle en vêtit Jacob son plus jeune fils.
16 And the skins of the kids she put upon his hands, and upon the smooth part of his neck;
Et elle couvrit ses mains et son cou, qui étaient sans poil, des peaux des chevreaux.
17 And she gave the savory food and bread, which she had prepared, into the hand of Jacob her son.
Puis elle mit entre les mains de son fils Jacob ces viandes d'appétit, et le pain qu'elle avait apprêté.
18 And he came unto his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I; who art thou my son?
Il vint donc vers son père, et lui dit: Mon père! Il répondit: Me voici; qui es-tu, mon fils?
19 And Jacob said unto his father, I am Esau thy first-born; I have done as thou didst speak to me: arise I pray thee, sit here and eat of my venison, that thy soul may bless me.
Et Jacob dit à son père: Je suis Esaü, ton fils aîné; j'ai fait ce que tu m'avais commandé; lève-toi, je te prie, assieds-toi, et mange de ma chasse, afin que ton âme me bénisse.
20 And Isaac said unto his son, How is it that thou hast found it so quickly, my son? And he said, Because the Lord thy God brought it before me.
Et Isaac dit à son fils: Qu'est ceci que tu en aies si-tôt trouvé, mon fils? Et il dit: L'Eternel ton Dieu l'a fait rencontrer devant moi.
21 And Isaac said unto Jacob, Come near, I pray thee, that I may feel thee, my son, whether thou be truly my son Esau or not.
Et Isaac dit à Jacob: Mon fils, approche-toi, je te prie, et je te tâterai, [afin que je sache] si tu es toi-même mon fils Esaü, ou non.
22 And Jacob went near unto Isaac his father, and he felt him; and he said, The voice is the voice of Jacob, but the hands are the hands of Esau.
Jacob donc s'approcha de son père Isaac, qui le tâta, et dit: Cette voix est la voix de Jacob; mais ces mains sont les mains d'Esaü.
23 And he recognized him not, because his hands were hairy, as his brother Esau's hands: so he blessed him.
Et il le méconnut; car ses mains étaient velues comme les mains de son frère Esaü; et il le bénit.
24 And he said, Art thou indeed my son Esau? and he said I am.
Il dit donc: Es-tu toi-même mon fils Esaü? Il répondit: Je le suis.
25 And he said, Bring it near to me, and I will eat of my son's venison, that my soul may bless thee. And he brought it near to him, and he did eat, and he brought him wine, and he drank.
Il lui dit aussi: Approche-moi [donc la viande], et que je mange de la chasse de mon fils, afin que mon âme te bénisse. Et il l'approcha, et [Isaac] mangea; il lui apporta aussi du vin, et il but.
26 And Isaac his father said unto him, Come near, I pray thee, and kiss me, my son.
Puis Isaac son père lui dit: Approche-toi, je te prie, et me baise, mon fils.
27 And he came near, and kissed him: and he smelled the smell of his garments and blessed him, and said, See, the smell of my son is the smell of the field which the Lord hath blessed.
Et il s'approcha, et le baisa. Et [Isaac] sentit l'odeur de ses habits, et le bénit, en disant: Voici l'odeur de mon fils, comme l'odeur d'un champ que l'Eternel a béni.
28 And may God give thee of the dew of heaven, and the fatness of the earth, and plenty of corn and wine;
Que Dieu te donne de la rosée des cieux, et de la graisse de la terre, et abondance de froment, et de moût!
29 Nations shall serve thee, and people bow down to thee; be lord over thy brethren, and thy mother's sons shall bow down to thee; cursed be they that curse thee, and blessed be they that bless thee.
Que les peuples te servent, et que les nations se prosternent devant toi! Sois le maître de tes frères, et que les fils de ta mère se prosternent devant toi! Quiconque te maudira, soit maudit; et quiconque te bénira, soit béni.
30 And it came to pass, as soon as Isaac had made an end of blessing Jacob, and Jacob was yet scarcely gone out from the presence of his father, that Esau his brother came in from his hunting.
Or il arriva qu'aussitôt qu'Isaac eut achevé de bénir Jacob, Jacob étant à peine sorti de devant son père Isaac, son frère Esaü revint de la chasse;
31 And he also made savory food, and brought it unto his father, and said unto his father, Let my father arise, and eat of his son's venison, in order that thy soul may bless me.
Qui apprêta aussi des viandes d'appétit, et les apporta à son père, et lui dit: Que mon père se lève, et qu'il mange de la chasse de son fils, afin que ton âme me bénisse.
32 And Isaac his father said unto him, Who art thou? And he said, I am thy son, thy first-born, Esau.
Et Isaac son père lui dit: Qui es-tu? Et il dit: Je suis ton fils, ton fils aîné, Esaü.
33 And Isaac trembled greatly, exceedingly, and said, Who was it? where is he that had hunted venison, and brought it me, and I ate of all before thou camest, and blessed him? yea, he shall also remain blessed.
Et Isaac fut saisi d'une fort grande émotion, et dit: Qui est, [et] où est celui qui a pris de la chasse, et m'en a apporté? J'ai mangé de tout, avant que tu vinsses, et je l'ai béni; et aussi il sera béni!
34 When Esau heard the words of his father, he uttered a great and exceedingly bitter cry, and said unto his father, Bless me, also me, my father.
Si-tôt qu'Esaü eut entendu les paroles de son père, il jeta un cri fort grand, et amer; et il dit à son père: Bénis-moi aussi, bénis-moi, mon père!
35 And he said, Thy brother came with subtilty, and took away thy blessing.
Mais il dit: Ton frère est venu avec artifice, et a emporté ta bénédiction.
36 And he said, Hath he been therefore named Jacob, because he hath supplanted me these two times? my right of first-born he took away; and, behold, now he hath taken away my blessing: and he said, Hast thou not reserved a blessing for me.
Et [Esaü] dit: N'est-ce pas avec raison qu'on a appelé son nom, Jacob? car il m'a déjà supplanté deux fois; il m'a enlevé mon droit d'aînesse, et voici, maintenant il a emporté ma bénédiction. Puis il dit: Ne m'as-tu point réservé de bénédiction?
37 And Isaac answered and said unto Esau, Behold, I have made him thy lord, and all his brethren have I given to him for servants; and with corn and wine have I endowed him: and what can I do now for thee, my son.
Et Isaac répondit à Esaü, en disant: Voici, je l'ai établi ton Seigneur, et lui ai donné tous ses frères pour serviteurs, et je l'ai fourni de froment et de moût; et que ferai-je maintenant pour toi, mon fils?
38 And Esau said unto his father, Hast thou then but one blessing, my father? bless me, also me, my father. And Esau lifted up his voice, and wept.
Et Esaü dit à son père: N'as-tu qu'une bénédiction, mon père? Bénis-moi aussi, bénis-moi, mon père! Et Esaü, élevant sa voix, pleura.
39 And Isaac his father answered and said unto him, Behold, thy dwelling shall be the fatness of the earth, and [blessed] by the dew of heaven from above;
Et Isaac son père répondit, et dit: Voici, ton habitation sera en la graisse de la terre, et en la rosée des cieux d'en haut.
40 And by thy sword shalt thou live, and thy brother shalt thou serve; and it shall come to pass, that when thou shalt have the dominion, thou canst break his yoke from off thy neck.
Et tu vivras par ton épée, et tu seras asservi à ton frère; mais il arrivera qu'étant devenu maître, tu briseras son joug de dessus ton cou.
41 And Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing wherewith his father had blessed him; and Esau said in his heart, The days of mourning for my father will be at hand; then will I slay my brother Jacob.
Et Esaü eut en haine Jacob, à cause de la bénédiction dont son père l'avait béni, et il dit en son cœur: Les jours du deuil de mon père approchent, et alors je tuerai Jacob mon frère.
42 And Rebekah was informed of the words of Esau her elder son: and she sent and called Jacob her younger son, and said unto him, Behold, thy brother Esau doth comfort himself, with regard to thee, purposing to kill thee.
Et on rapporta à Rébecca les discours d'Esaü, son fils aîné; et elle envoya appeler Jacob son second fils, et lui dit: Voici, Esaü ton frère se console dans [l'espérance] qu'il a de te tuer.
43 Now therefore, my son, obey my voice; and arise, flee thou to Laban my brother, to Charan;
Maintenant donc, mon fils, obéis à ma parole; lève-toi, et t'enfuis à Caran, vers Laban, mon frère.
44 And tarry with him a short time, until thy brother's fury turn away;
Et demeure avec lui quelque temps, jusqu'à ce que la fureur de ton frère soit passée;
45 Until thy brother's anger turn away from thee, and he forget that which thou hast done to him: then will I send, and fetch thee from there; why should I be deprived of both of you at once in one day?
Et que sa colère soit détournée de toi, et qu'il ait oublié les choses que tu lui as faites. J'enverrai ensuite pour te tirer de là. Pourquoi serais-je privée de vous deux en un même jour?
46 And Rebekah said to Isaac, I am weary of my life because of the daughters of Heth; if Jacob take a wife from the daughters of Heth, such as these, from the daughters of the land, what good will life do me?
Et Rébecca dit à Isaac: La vie m'est devenue ennuyeuse, à cause de ces Héthiennes. Si Jacob prend pour femme quelqu'une de ces Héthiennes, comme sont les filles de ce pays, à quoi me sert la vie?
