Genesis 16
1 Now Sarai, Abram's wife, bore him no children; and she had an Egyptian handmaid, whose name was Hagar.
USarayi umka-Abhrama wayengamzalelanga bantwana. Kodwa wayelencekukazi yomGibhithe eyayithiwa nguHagari;
2 And Sarai said unto Abram, Behold now, the Lord hath restrained me from bearing: go in, I pray thee, unto my maid; it may be that I may obtain children by her. And Abram hearkened to the voice of Sarai.
ngakho uSarayi wathi ku-Abhrama, “UThixo ungincitshile abantwana. Hamba, wembathe lencekukazi yami; mhlawumbe lami ngingaba lendlu ngaye.” U-Abhrama wavuma kulokho okwakutshiwo nguSarayi.
3 And Sarai, Abram's wife, took Hagar, the Egyptian, her maid, after Abram had dwelt ten years in the land of Canaan, and gave her to her husband Abram to be his wife.
Ngakho kwathi u-Abhrama esehlale eKhenani okweminyaka elitshumi, uSarayi umkakhe wathatha incekukazi yakhe yomGibhithe uHagari wamupha indoda yakhe ukuba ngumkayo.
4 And he went in unto Hagar, and she conceived; and when she saw that she had conceived, her mistress became of little esteem in her eyes.
U-Abhrama wambatha loHagari, wazithwala. Wathi esezibona esezithwele, waseqalisa ukweyisa inkosikazi yakhe.
5 And Sarai said unto Abram, I suffer wrong through thee; I have placed my maid into thy bosom; and when she saw that she had conceived, I became of little esteem in her eyes; may the Lord judge between me and thee.
USarayi wasesithi ku-Abhrama, “Ngumlandu wakho ukuze ngihlupheke kangaka. Incekukazi yami ngayethula ezandleni zakho, kodwa ithi ngoba isisazi ukuthi isizithwele isingeyisa. Sengathi uThixo angahlulela phakathi kwami lawe.”
6 But Abram said unto Sarai, Behold, thy maid is in thy hand; do to her as it pleaseth thee. And when Sarai dealt hardly with her, she fled from her face.
U-Abhrama wathi, “Incekukazi yakho isezandleni zakho. Yenza lokho obona kufanele ngayo.” USarayi wasemphatha kubi uHagari; wacina embalekela.
7 And an angel of the Lord found her by a fountain of water in the wilderness, by the fountain on the way to Shur.
Ingilosi kaThixo yamfumana uHagari eduze komthombo enkangala; kwakungumthombo oseceleni kwendlela eya eShuri.
8 And he said, Hagar, Sarai's maid, whence camest thou? and whither wilt thou go? And she said, From the face of my mistress Sarai I am fleeing.
Yathi, “Hagari, ncekukazi kaSarayi, uvela ngaphi njalo uya ngaphi?” Waphendula wathi, “Ngibalekela inkosikazi yami, uSarayi.”
9 And the angel of the Lord said unto her, Return to thy mistress, and submit thyself under her hands.
Ngakho ingilosi kaThixo yamtshela yathi, “Buyela enkosikazini yakho ufike uyilalele.”
10 And the angel of the Lord said unto her, I will multiply thy seed exceedingly, that it shall not be numbered for multitude.
Ingilosi kaThixo yengeza yathi, “Ngizakwandisa izizukulwane zakho zibe zinengi okungelakubalwa.”
11 And the angel of the Lord said unto her, Behold, thou art with child, and wilt bear a son, and thou shalt call his name Ishmael; because the Lord hath heard thy affliction.
Ingilosi kaThixo yaphinda yathi kuye: “Khathesi usuzithwele njalo uzabusiswa ngendodana. Kumele uyethe uthi ngu-Ishumayeli, ngoba uThixo usekuzwile ukukhala kwakho.
12 And he will be a wild man; his hand will be against every man, and every man's hand against him; and in the presence of all his brethren shall he dwell.
Uzakuba yindoda engubabhemi weganga; isandla sakhe sizaxabana labantu bonke lesandla somuntu wonke sixabane laye, njalo uzaphila ngenzondano labafowabo bonke.”
13 And she called the name of the Lord that spoke unto her, Thou art an all-seeing God; for she said, Have I not also seen here a vision after he appeared to me?
UThixo owakhuluma laye wamutha lelibizo elithi: “UnguNkulunkulu ongibonayo,” ngoba wathi, “Manje sengimbonile lowo ongibonayo.”
14 Wherefore the well was called Beerlachai-roi: behold, it is between Kadesh and Bared.
Yikho-nje umthombo lowo wabizwa ngokuthi yiBheri-Lahayi-Royi; ulokhu usekhona, phakathi kweKhadeshi leBheredi.
15 And Hagar bore Abram a son; and Abram called the name of his son, whom Hagar bore, Ishmael.
Ngakho uHagari wazalela u-Abhrama indodana, u-Abhrama wamutha ibizo lokuthi ngu-Ishumayeli.
16 And Abram was eighty and six years old, when Hagar bore Ishmael to Abram.
U-Abhrama wayeleminyaka yokuzalwa engamatshumi ayisificaminwembili lesithupha lapho uHagari emzalela u-Ishumayeli.
