Genesis 13

1 And Abram went up out of Egypt, he, and his wife, and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the south.

og Abram drog atter med sin Hustru og al sin Ejendom fra Ægypten op til Sydlandet, og Lot drog med ham.

2 And Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold.

Abram var meget rig paa Kvæghjorde, Sølv og Guld;

3 And he went on his journeys from the south even to Beth-el, unto the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Beth-el and 'Ai;

og han vandrede fra Lejrplads til Lejrplads og naaede fra Sydlandet til Betel, til det Sted, hvor hans Teltlejr havde staaet første Gang, mellem Betel og Aj,

4 Unto the place of the altar, which he had made there at the first; and Abram called there on the name of the Lord.

til det Sted, hvor han forrige Gang havde rejst et Alter; og Abram paakaldte der HERRENS Navn.

5 And Lot also, who went with Abram, had flocks, and herds, and tents.

Og Lot, der drog med Abram, ejede ligeledes Smaakvæg, Hornkvæg og Telte.

6 And the land was not able to bear them, that they might dwell together; for their substance was great, so that they could not dwell together.

Men Landet formaaede ikke at rumme dem, saa de kunde bo sammen; thi deres Hjorde var for store til, at de kunde bo sammen.

7 And there arose a strife between the herdmen of Abram's cattle, and the herdmen of Lot's cattle; and the Canaanite and the Perizzite dwelled then in the land.

Da opstod der Strid mellem Abrams og Lots Hyrder; det var dengang Kana'anæerne og Perizziterne boede i Landet.

8 And Abram said unto Lot, Let there be no strife, I pray thee, between me and thee and between my herdmen and thy herdmen; for we are near relatives.

Abram sagde derfor til Lot: »Der maa ikke være Strid mellem os to eller mellem mine og dine Hyrder, vi er jo Frænder!

9 Is not the whole land before thee? Separate thyself, I pray thee, from me: if thou wilt take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if thou depart to the right, then I will go to the left.

Ligger ikke hele Landet dig aabent? Skil dig hellere fra mig; vil du til venstre, saa gaar jeg til højre, og vil du til højre, saa gaar jeg til venstre!«

10 And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered everywhere; before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, [it was] like the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt, till thou comest unto Zoar.

Da saa Lot sig omkring, og da han saa, at hele Jordanegnen (det var før HERREN ødelagde Sodoma og Gomorra) var vandrig som HERRENS Have, som Ægyptens Land, hen ad Zoar til,

11 Then Lot chose himself all the plain of Jordan; and Lot journeyed east; and they separated themselves the one from the other.

valgte han sig hele Jordanegnen. Saa brød Lot op og drog østerpaa, og de skiltes,

12 Abram dwelt in the land of Canaan; and Lot dwelt in the cities of the plain, and pitched his tents, till close to Sodom.

idet Abram slog sig ned i Kana'ans Land, medens Lot slog sig ned i Jordanegnens Byer og drog med sine Telte fra Sted til Sted helt hen til Sodoma. —

13 But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the Lord exceedingly.

Men Mændene i Sodoma var ugudelige og store Syndere mod HERREN.

14 And the Lord said unto Abram, after Lot was separated from him, Lift up now thy eyes, and look from the place where thou art, northward, and southward, and eastward, and westward;

Efter at Lot havde skilt sig fra Abram, sagde HERREN til denne: »Løft dit Blik og se dig om der, hvor du staar, mod Nord, mod Syd, mod Øst og mod Vest;

15 For all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed forever.

thi hele det Land, du ser, vil jeg give dig og dit Afkom til evig Tid,

16 And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth; so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then shall thy seed also be numbered.

og jeg vil gøre dit Afkom som Jordens Støv, saa at det lige saa lidt skal kunne tælles, som nogen kan tælle Jordens Støv.

17 Arise, walk through the land in the length of it and in the breadth of it; for unto thee will I give it.

Drag nu gennem Landet paa Kryds og tværs, thi dig giver jeg det!«

18 Then Abram pitched his tent, and came and dwelt in the grove of Mamre, which is in Hebron; and he built there an altar unto the Lord.

Saa drog Abram fra Sted til Sted med sine Telte og kom til Mamres Lund i Hebron, hvor han slog sig ned og byggede HERREN et Alter.
