Ezra 10
1 Now when 'Ezra prayed, and when he made his confession, weeping and casting himself down before the house of God, there gathered themselves unto him out of Israel a very large assembly of men and women and children; for the people wept exceedingly much.
Mientras Esdras oraba y se confesaba, llorando y postrándose ante la casa de Dios, se reunió con él, de parte de Israel, una asamblea muy numerosa de hombres, mujeres y niños, pues el pueblo lloraba muy amargamente.
2 Thereupon commenced Shechanyah the son of Jechiel, of the sons of 'Elam, and said unto 'Ezra, we have indeed trespassed against our God, and have brought home strange wives of the nations of the land: yet now there is hope in Israel concerning this thing.
Secanías, hijo de Jehiel, uno de los hijos de Elam, respondió a Esdras: “Nos hemos rebelado contra nuestro Dios y nos hemos casado con mujeres extranjeras de los pueblos de la tierra. Sin embargo, ahora hay esperanza para Israel en cuanto a esto.
3 And now let us make a covenant with our God to put away all the wives, and such as are born of them, according to the direction of the Lord, and of those that tremble at the commandment of our God: and let it be done according to the law.
Ahora, pues, hagamos un pacto con nuestro Dios para repudiar a todas las mujeres y a los nacidos de ellas, según el consejo de mi señor y de los que temen el mandamiento de nuestro Dios. Que se haga según la ley.
4 Arise; for this matter is obligatory upon thee; and we will be with thee: be strong, and do it.
Levántate, pues el asunto te pertenece y nosotros estamos contigo. Sé valiente y hazlo”.
5 Then arose 'Ezra, and caused the princes of the priests, the Levites, and of all Israel, to swear to do according to this word. And they swore.
Entonces Esdras se levantó e hizo jurar a los jefes de los sacerdotes, a los levitas y a todo Israel que harían lo que se les dijera. Así lo juraron.
6 Then arose 'Ezra from before the house of God, and went into the chamber of Jochanan the son of Elyashib; and he went thither without having eaten bread, or having drunk water; for he was mourning because of the trespass of the exiles.
Entonces Esdras se levantó de delante de la casa de Dios y entró en la habitación de Johanán, hijo de Eliasib. Cuando llegó allí, no comió pan ni bebió agua, pues se lamentó por la transgresión de los exiliados.
7 And they made proclamation throughout Judah and Jerusalem unto all the children of the exile, to gather themselves together at Jerusalem;
Hicieron un pregón por todo Judá y Jerusalén a todos los hijos del cautiverio, para que se reunieran en Jerusalén;
8 And that whosoever should not come within three days, according to the resolve of the princes and the elders, all his substance should be devoted, and himself separated from the congregation of the exiles.
y que el que no viniera dentro de tres días, según el consejo de los príncipes y de los ancianos, perdiera todos sus bienes, y él mismo se separara de la asamblea del cautiverio.
9 Then were all the men of Judah and Benjamin gathered together unto Jerusalem within three days: it was in the ninth month, on the twentieth day of the month; and all the people sat in the open place before the house of God, trembling because of this matter, and by reason of the showers of rain.
Entonces todos los hombres de Judá y de Benjamín se reunieron en Jerusalén dentro de los tres días. Era el mes noveno, a los veinte días del mes; y todo el pueblo se sentó en el amplio lugar frente a la casa de Dios, temblando por este asunto y por la gran lluvia.
10 And 'Ezra the priest rose up, and said unto them, Ye have acted unfaithfully, and have brought home strange wives, to increase yet more the guiltiness of Israel.
El sacerdote Esdras se levantó y les dijo: “Ustedes han cometido una infracción y se han casado con mujeres extranjeras, aumentando la culpa de Israel.
11 Now therefore make confession unto the Lord the God of your fathers, and do his will; and separate yourselves from the nations of the earth, and from the strange wives.
Ahora, pues, confesad a Yahvé, el Dios de vuestros padres, y haced su voluntad. Sepárense de los pueblos de la tierra y de las mujeres extranjeras”.
12 Then answered all the assembly and said with a loud voice, So be it: according to thy word it is our duty to do.
Entonces toda la asamblea respondió en voz alta: “Debemos hacer lo que has dicho sobre nosotros.
13 But the people are many, and it is the rainy season, and we have not the strength to remain in the street, nor is this a work for one day or for two days; for we are many that have transgressed in this matter.
Pero el pueblo es numeroso, y es tiempo de mucha lluvia, y no podemos quedarnos afuera. Esta no es una obra de un día ni de dos, pues hemos transgredido mucho en este asunto.
14 Let however our princes stand forward for all the congregation, and let all those in our cities who have brought home strange wives come at appointed times, and with them the elders of each and every city, and its judges, until the fierce wrath of our God be turned away from us for this whole matter.
Ahora bien, que se designen nuestros príncipes para toda la asamblea, y que vengan a horas señaladas todos los que están en nuestras ciudades que se han casado con mujeres extranjeras, y con ellos los ancianos de cada ciudad y sus jueces, hasta que se aparte de nosotros la feroz ira de nuestro Dios, hasta que se resuelva este asunto.”
15 Only Jonathan the son of 'Assahel and Jachzeyah the son of Thikvah withstood this [proposal]: and Meshullam and Shabbethai the Levite assisted them.
Sólo Jonatán, hijo de Asahel, y Jahzé, hijo de Ticva, se opusieron a esto; y Mesulam y el levita Sabetai los ayudaron.
16 And the children of the exile did so. And then were set apart 'Ezra the priest, [and] certain chiefs of the divisions, for their family divisions, and all of them [designated] by their names; and they sat down on the first day of the tenth month to examine the matter.
Así lo hicieron los hijos del cautiverio. El sacerdote Esdras, con algunos jefes de familia, según sus casas paternas, y todos ellos por sus nombres, fueron apartados; y se sentaron el primer día del décimo mes para examinar el asunto.
17 And they made an end with all, with the men that had brought home strange wives, not before the first day of the first month.
Terminaron con todos los hombres que se habían casado con mujeres extranjeras para el primer día del primer mes.
18 And there were found among the sons of the priests that had brought home strange wives, namely, of the sons of Jeshua' the son of Jozadak, and his brethren: Ma'asseyah, and Eli'ezer, and Jarib, and Gedalyah.
Entre los hijos de los sacerdotes se encontraron algunos que se habían casado con mujeres extranjeras: de los hijos de Jesúa, hijo de Josadac, y sus hermanos: Maasías, Eliezer, Jarib y Gedalías.
19 And they gave their hand to put away their wives, and being guilty, [they offered] a ram of the flock for their trespass.
Ellos dieron su mano para que repudiaran a sus mujeres; y siendo culpables, ofrecieron un carnero del rebaño por su culpa.
20 And of the sons of Immer: Chanani, and Zebadyah.
De los hijos de Immer Hanani y Zebadiah.
21 And of the sons of Charim: Ma'asseyah, and Elijah, and Shema'yah, and Jechiel, and 'Uzziyah.
De los hijos de Harim: Maasías, Elías, Semaías, Jehiel y Uzías.
22 And of the sons of Pashchur: Elyo'enai, Ma'asseyah. Ishmael, Nethanel, Jozabad, and El'assah.
De los hijos de Pashur: Elioenai, Maaseiah, Ismael, Natanel, Jozabad y Elasah.
23 Also of the Levites: Jozabad, and Shim'i, and Kelayan, the same is Kelita, Pethachyah, Judah, and Eli'ezer.
De los levitas: Jozabad, Simei, Kelaiah (también llamado Kelita), Pethahiah, Judah y Eliezer.
24 And of the singers, Elyashib; and of the gate-keepers, Shallum, and Telem, and Uri.
De los cantantes: Eliashib. De los guardianes de la puerta: Shallum, Telem y Uri.
25 And of Israel: Of the sons of Par'osh, Ramyah, and Yizziyah, and Malkiyah, and Miyamin, and El'azar, and Malkiyah, and Benayah.
De Israel: De los hijos de Paros: Ramías, Izzías, Malquías, Mijamín, Eleazar, Malquías y Benaías.
26 And of the sons of 'Elam; Matthanyah, Zecharyah, and Jechiel, and 'Abdi, and Jeremoth, and Eliyah.
De los hijos de Elam: Matanías, Zacarías, Jehiel, Abdi, Jeremot y Elías.
27 And of the sons of Zatthu: Elyo'enai, Elyashib, Matthanyah, and Jeremoth, and Zabad, and 'Aziza.
De los hijos de Zattu Elioenai, Eliashib, Mattaniah, Jeremoth, Zabad y Aziza.
28 And of the sons of Bebai: Jehochanan, Chananyah, Zabbai, and 'Athlai.
De los hijos de Bebai Johanán, Hananías, Zabbai y Atilái.
29 And of the sons of Bani: Meshullam, Malluch, and 'Adayah, Jashub, and Sheal, and Ramoth.
De los hijos de Bani: Meshullam, Malluch, Adaiah, Jashub, Sheal y Jeremoth.
30 And of the sons of Pachath-moab: 'Adna, and Kelal, Benayah, Ma'asseyah, Matthanyah, Bezalel, and Binnui, and Menasseh.
De los hijos de Pahatmoab Adna, Quelal, Benaía, Maasías, Matanías, Bezalel, Binúi y Manasés.
31 And of the sons of Charim: Eli'ezer, Yishiyah, Malkiyah, Shema'yah, Shim'on,
De los hijos de Harim Eliezer, Ishijá, Malquías, Semaías, Simeón,
32 Benjamin, Malluch, and Shemaryah.

33 Of the sons of Chashum: Matthenai, Matthathah, Zabad, Eliphelet, Jeremai, Menasseh, and Shim'i.
De los hijos de Hasum: Mattenai, Matattah, Zabad, Eliphelet, Jeremai, Manasés y Simei.
34 Of the sons of Bani: Ma'adai, 'Amram, and Uel,

35 Benayah, Bedeyah, Keluhu,
Benaiah, Bedeiah, Cheluhi,
36 Vanyah, Meremoth, Elyashib,
Vaniah, Meremoth, Eliashib,
37 Matthanyah, Matthenai, and Ja'assai,

38 And Bani, and Binnui, and Shim'i,

39 And Shelemyah, and Nathan, and 'Adayah,

40 Machnadbai, Shashai, Sharai,

41 'Asar'el, and Shelemyahu, Shemaryah,
Azarel, Shelemiah, Shemariah,
42 Shallum, Amaryah, and Joseph.

43 Of the sons of Nebo: Je'iel, Matthithyah, Zabad, Zebina, Jaddai, and Joel, Benayah.
De los hijos de Nebo: Jeiel, Mattithiah, Zabad, Zebina, Iddo, Joel y Benaiah.
44 All these had taken strange wives; and some of them had wives by whom they had children.
Todos ellos habían tomado esposas extranjeras. Algunos de ellos tenían esposas con las que tenían hijos.
