Ezekiel 38
1 And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,
Het woord van Jahweh werd tot mij gericht:
2 Son of man, direct thy face against Gog of the land of Magog, the prince of Rosh, Meshech and Thubal, and prophesy against him,
Mensenkind, ge moet uw gelaat richten naar Gog in het land Magog, den grootvorst van Mésjek en Toebal. Profeteer tegen hem,
3 And say, Thus hath said the Lord Eternal, Behold, I will be against thee, O Gog, the prince of Rosh, Meshech and Thubal;
en zeg: Zo spreekt Jahweh, de Heer! Ik kom naar u toe, Gog, grootvorst van Mésjek en Toebal.
4 And I will derange thee, and put hooks into thy jaws, and I will bring thee forth, and all thy army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed in elegant attire, a great assemblage with bucklers and shields, all of them grasping swords.
Ik lok u mee, sla een angel in uw kaken, en laat u uitrukken, u met al uw strijdkrachten: paarden en ruiters, allen volledig gewapend, een geweldig leger met schild en rondas, allen met het zwaard in de vuist.
5 Persia, Cush, and Put [shall be] with them; all of them with shield and helmet;
U zullen volgen Perzië, Ethiopië en Poet, allen met schild en helm;
6 Gomer and all of its armies; the house of Thogarmah out of the farthest north, and all its armies; many people shall be with thee.
Gómer met al zijn troepen, Bet-Togarma uit het hoge noorden met al zijn troepen; talloze volken trekken met u mee.
7 Be thou ready, and prepare thyself, thou, and all thy assemblages that are assembled about thee, and be thou a guard unto them.
Houd u bereid en maak u gereed, gij met heel het leger, dat rond u verenigd is; gij moet hun aanvoerder zijn.
8 After many days shalt thou be ordered forward; in the end of years shalt thou come into the land that is recovering from the sword, and is gathered together out of many people, against the mountains of Israel, which have been ruined for a very long time: [to a people] that are brought forth out of the nations, and that now dwell in safety, all of them.
Na lange tijd zult ge een bevel ontvangen, en op het einde der jaren zult ge oprukken tegen een land, dat op het zwaard werd teruggewonnen, dat uit vele volken bijeen is gebracht op Israëls bergen, die een blijvende ruïne geleken, dat van de volken is weggetrokken, en zich helemaal veilig waant.
9 Thou wilt ascend and come like a tempest, like a cloud to cover the earth wilt thou be, thou, and all thy armies, and the many people with thee.
Als een onweer komt gij opzetten, als de donderwolk nadert gij; ge komt, om het land te bedekken, gij met al de troepen en de talloze volken, die met u meetrekken.
10 Thus hath said the Lord Eternal, It will also come to pass, at the same time, that things will come into thy mind, and thou wilt entertain an evil device;
Dit zegt Jahweh, de Heer. Maar dàn zullen er gedachten in uw brein opkomen, zult ge laffe plannen beramen,
11 And thou wilt say, I will go up over the land of open towns; I will come against those that are careless, that dwell in safety, all of whom dwell without walls, and have neither bars nor gates,
en denken: Laat ik oprukken tegen een land van dorpen, een vredelievend volk overvallen, dat zich veilig waant en niet achter muren woont, dat geen grendels of deuren kent.
12 To snatch up the spoil, and to take away the prey; to turn thy hand against the ruined places now inhabited, and against the people that are gathered out of the nations, that have gotten cattle and goods, that dwell in the highest part of the land.
Om buit te maken en roof te behalen, om mijn hand te keren tegen bewoonde ruïnen en tegen een volk dat uit de heidenen bijeengebracht is, dat zich bezit verwerft, vermogen vormt, en het middelpunt der aarde bewoont.
13 Sheba, and Dedan, and the traders of Tharshish, with all her young lions, will say unto thee, Art thou come to plunder the spoil? hast thou gathered thy company to carry off the prey? to bear away silver and gold, to take away cattle and goods, to plunder a great spoil?
Sjeba en Dedan met hun kooplui, Tarsjisj met zijn handelaren zullen u vragen: Gaat ge roof behalen? Hebt ge uw leger verzameld, om buit te maken, om goud en zilver weg te nemen, om have en vee te bemachtigen, om een vette buit in te palmen?
14 Therefore, prophesy, son of man, and say unto Gog, Thus hath said the Lord Eternal, Behold, on the day when my people of Israel dwelleth in safety, shalt thou know [my power].
Daarom, mensenkind, moet ge tegen Gog profeteren en zeggen: Zo spreekt Jahweh, de Heer! Is het niet zo? Juist wanneer mijn volk Israël zich veilig waant, komt gij aanrukken,
15 And thou wilt come from thy place out of the farthest ends of the north, thou, and many people with thee, all of them riding upon horses, a great assemblage, and a mighty army;
vertrekt gij van uw woonplaats, uit het hoge noorden, gevolgd door talrijke volken, allemaal ruiters: een geweldig leger, een talrijke krijgsmacht.
16 And thou wilt come up against my people of Israel, like a cloud to cover the land; in the latter days will this be, and I will bring thee over my land, in order that the nations may know me, when I am sanctified on thee, before their eyes, O Gog.
Dan rukt ge tegen mijn volk Israël op als een onweerswolk, om het land te bedekken. Ja, op het einde der tijden zal Ik u naar mijn land laten komen, opdat de heidenen Mij leren erkennen, als Ik met u, Gog, voor hun ogen mijn heiligheid toon!
17 Thus hath said the Lord Eternal, Art thou [not] he of whom I have spoken in ancient days through means of my servants the prophets of Israel, who prophesied in those days [many] years, that I would bring thee against them?
Dit zegt Jahweh, de Heer: Zijt gij het niet, van wien Ik in oeroude tijden gesproken heb door mijn dienaren, de profeten van Israël, die in lang vervlogen dagen profeteerden, dat Ik ú over hen zou doen komen?
18 And it shall come to pass at the same time, on the day of Gog's coming over the land of Israel, saith the Lord Eternal, that my fury shall be kindled in my nose.
Maar zodra Gog tegen de grond van Israël oprukt, spreekt Jahweh, zal Ik mijn woede doen briesen,
19 And in my zealousness, in the fire of my wrath, have I spoken, Surely on that day there shall be a great earthquake in the country of Israel;
en in mijn afgunst en mijn hartstochtelijke toorn uitroepen: Ik zal hem! Dan zal er een geweldige aardbeving over de grond van Israël komen.
20 And there shall quake at my presence the fishes of the sea, and the fowls of the heaven, and the beasts of the field, and every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth, and all the men that are upon the face of the earth, and the mountains shall be thrown down, and the cliffs shall fall, and every wall shall fall to the ground.
Dan zullen voor Mij beven de vissen in de zee, de vogels in de lucht, de wilde beesten, al het gedierte dat over de grond kruipt, en alle mensen die de oppervlakte der aarde bewonen. Dan zullen de bergen ontzet worden, de rotswanden instorten, en alle muren ter aarde vallen.
21 And I will call against him throughout all my mountains for the sword, saith the Lord Eternal: every man's sword shall be against his brother.
Dan zal Ik op al mijn bergen een zwaard tegen hem oproepen, spreekt Jahweh, de Heer: het zwaard van den een zal zich keren tegen het zwaard van den ander.
22 And I will hold judgment over him with pestilence and with blood [-shedding]; and an overflowing rain, and great hailstones, fire, and sulfur will I let rain over him and his armies, and over the many people that are with him.
Dan zal Ik hem vonnissen met pest en met bloed; plasregens en hagelstenen, vuur en zwavel zal Ik op hem en zijn troepen doen regenen, en op de talrijke volken die met hem komen.
23 Thus will I magnify myself, and sanctify myself, and make myself known before the eyes of many nations: and they shall know that I am the Lord.
Zo zal Ik mijn grootheid en heiligheid tonen, en Mij openbaren voor de ogen van vele volken. Zo zullen ze erkennen, dat Ik Jahweh ben!
